I recently dined at The Chieftain for the first time this May. The outside of the restaurant is not exactly appealing to the eye, but the inside is a different story. The inside of the pub has your typical Irish décor; very charming. Initial review of the menu had me a bit confused. The prices were pretty expensive for pub fare. After reviewing the menu and the specials I decided to try their corned beef and cabbage. For an Irish pub I did not think it was that great. The meal came with your standard corned beef, cabbage, and some type of mashed potato — there were no carrots. The potatoes seemed to be smashed without any flavorings; leaving them flavor-less. The corned beef and cabbage were just okay. My boyfriend got the fish and chips. He seemed to like them, but I thought they were kinda soggy and again … flavor-less. The bread that was served with the meal was good! It seemed homemade. I’m willing to go back and try something different, such as the steak tips. I just wish they weren’t so pricey! Will be back.

Yummy!!! Stopped in with my brother for a quick lunch we had chowder and stuffies… Delicious!!! And a fish clam basket so great… The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the calamari it wasn’t as crispy as I like! But loved the place and everybody was real nice

We recently returned here to eat. You can read my last review for more info. WE ordered the steamers + 2 stuffed quahogs. The good news… the steamers are still very good and the stuffies were excellent! The steamers were priced at 25.00 on this visit. The stuffies aren’t on the menu individually, you have to ask. The bad news… the steamers are now served with«fake» butter… like popcorn oil or something. It’s gross, oily stuff that can’t be good for you. This practice has become REALLY common now at many places. Service was very good. My tip here? Demand REALBUTTER before you order and offer to pay for it. That’s what I’m doing now at everyplace I go. Still recommended…

The chieftain pub is good for some drinks and food. Surprisingly, lots of gluten free options on the menu. The Chieftain parking is annoying — i always have a hard time finding a space. Every time I’ve been to the chieftain, I’ve been stuffed in there like a can of sardines. The wait staff/bar tenders are pretty good.

Been here many times. Was very impressed with how they pride themselves on good food and happy customers. A few years back I raved to my friends about the golden fried clams. We went, and all were overdone. I told the waitress. She didn’t hesitate and cleared them off the table, apologized and brought out 3 fresh orders. Cooked to perfection. Turns out the oil was too hot. Now that’s the way you take care of customers. I also enjoy the pot roast dinner. Tastes delicious and the mashed are better than my Moms!

Sauntering in for a late lunch, by which time I was very, very hungry, I had every expectation of a fairly quick meal. The waitress quickly brought me a water, but took more than 10 minutes before returning. She seemed to think I was waiting on someone else. Fortunately, the Shepherd’s Pie on the menu was actually available, so I ordered that(of course!). At least a half hour later, a period during which I never saw my waitress, I heard a waitress deliver Shepherd’s Pie to the table behind me. A table that arrived after I did. After mentioning this to their waitress, who seemed to have replaced my original waitress in the room, she brought me a hot Shepherd’s Pie within a few minutes. ITWASSCRUMPTIOUS! Delicious, really, although there was a small-potato-sized unmashed potato in the mash. I ate around it, no big deal. The waitress cut my bill in half(for my trouble) which was the right thing to do, especially since I hadn’t asked or made a fuss. Kudos to her for gracefully handling the situation. I saw my original waitress on the way out(and hour after I initially ordered). «Katie» was the name on my ticket, but I’m not sure which was which. I’d gladly return to Chieftain Pub. The food was great. Half the service was terrific. And the décor and food offerings were appealing. The outside deck looks inviting to, for when it’s warmer!

Went for lunch with my husband. Fish and chips were just OK but the price was ridiculous! Won’t be going back. On a positive note, waitress was very nice.

I went there for the first time back in November. My husband had been many times but this was my first. With another couple, we were seated at a table in the bar. We had steamers and some other food I can barely remember — besides what I had: awesome baked stuffed shrimp. Definitely the perfect meal after the steamers. I had to bring half home, but they were great the next day. No reservations and the place is busy, so plan ahead. It seems to be a favorite. It is not family friendly. Glad we didn’t have kids with us. But a great spot to eat, drink, and hang out. Nice staff, loud busy fun atmosphere, and well priced. It is t cheap, but very fair. I think they steamers were like $ 35 for the bucket and four of us couldn’t even finish it. I can’t wait to go back!!!

The Chieftain is a great Irish pub. Standard pub fare is served with a decent beer list(always a good variety on draft). Fair prices for solid food. I love the Shepherd’s Pie. My husband said the Stuffies are awesome. I’ve also had the Fish & Chips and really enjoyed them too. The staff is nice, they often have live music, and the atmosphere is boisterous and fun. I’ve only been to the Chieftain when it is packed, but worth the wait. We wish they were open on Sunday!

standard bar food with some Irish specialties, good prices, friendly service. We had fish and chips and prime rib. Both were pleasant, not particularly memorable. We’d go here again if in the area, would not make a special trip. A lady near us had their stuffies and chowder… smelled phenomenal. I’d try this next time, or a burger or steamers.

This is our favorite place pre game favorite. Unfortunately they are not open on Sunday’s so we don’t get to enjoy it very often.(We are not from the area.) The stuffees are great, the beer is always on point. A few the tvs are on the right channel(football). One too many on golf for me. I’m not a golf Fan in November or December . Bottom line, come in . Join the friendly group with great food and beer.

I love the Chieftain– solid affordable food, great beers, live music and trivia. I love the Irish soda bread that they start your meal with. I wish they had more vegetarian appetizers(nachos please) but I always get the salad and loaded baked potato which is great. They have less bar food but more real food like sandwiches and actual meals. They usually have 7+ draft beers too!

If you are looking for a nice little Irish pub this is the place! The welcome is warm from the Irish hostess, the Guinness is just the right temperature. The music gives it the perfect atmosphere. Food, well they have all the typical Irish fare which I will be back to taste but I went with a great big bowl of mussels which were wonderfully sweet and not over powered by the garlic. The stuffies and chowder was my next course and I loved it. The stuffies weren’t too bready. Lots of clams which I like. The clam chowder was wonderful and creamy with lots of clans too. Overall a great experience.

Great experience! Friendly professional staff. Just got a couple of appetizers, but wasn’t your run of the mill frozen stuff from Cosco. Could tell it was made in house and was awesome! Live out of state but definitely go there again if I’m near by.

Came here for lunch on a Monday after they are closed on Sundays. My grandmother from out of town wanted steamers and they didn’t have any. Food was left overs from Saturday. Chowder was bland and nothing special. Another person in my party ordered prime rib and it was said it could only be cooked medium to medium well. It was well done and dry. Asked for another prime rib. Said they couldn’t make it medium because it was previously cooked. Waitress asked why we were being so rude and if we had something to say to say it. Very unhappy with the service and the food. Will not be coming here again.

I ordered the pot roast dinner. I really liked the flavor and texture and it was juicy enough that the gravy was just extra. Nice real mashed potatoes and nice squash(I think).

It’s been a long time since I’ve been here. The food was good.(My mom had fish n chips, my sister had the baked haddock. They both enjoyed meals) I had the chowder, which was very bland. The biggest turnoff was the amount of dust on the stuff hanging on the walls. Yikes! Please clean them off.

Chieftain Pub is an Irish pub with a homestyle feel. The bread is made in house and is delicious. Our hostess even had a legit Irish accent, which was quite surprising — in a good way! Plenty of miscellaneous paraphernalia adorned the walls and the bar was beautiful. There were many dinner options, and I found it hard to choose one. I choose the Crispy Shrimp Wraps for an appetizer and the Boom Boom Burger(Boom Boom hot sauce on the side). Delicious! They had a great selection of $ 7 wine glasses, and the pour was GENEROUS. At the end of the night, my friend and I wanted to split a glass, and they were happy to oblige. Good eats!

Awesome pub not too far from Route 1 cinema pub and the Wrentham Outlets. This means that I now have a good go-to spot to eat/drink when I’m in that area which is fantastic. After two years or so of passing the place by and saying to my husband«we should really go there one day» we finally went. It was rather busy for being before six but we shortly were seated in the bar area(per our request). It turned out they were holding a Guinness promotion where if you purchased a pint of the back stuff, you got an engraved«gravity» glass for free. Not a bad introduction to the Chieftain. Our meal began by us scarfing down the complimentary bread(OMG the best soda bread) and trying to pick among all the delicious sounding sandwiches, traditional Irish dishes, and their many seafood entrees. They are known for their steamers but we decided to pass for this time. I instead decided on another seafood meal entailing of their mussels app. The mussels were plentiful and were cooked in white wine and onions. So yum. My husband had the boom boom burger which he enjoyed but said wasn’t as spicy as he would have liked. Their fries were pretty tasty as well. Their beer selection was somewhat decent but most importantly was that they poured an awesome Guinness at a good price. Service was fast and friendly throughout the evening, even when I had to ask a bunch of questions regarding how the promotion worked. The music consisted of Irish tunes both new and traditional. We had a great time and I can’t wait to return in the near future.
