I absolutely HATE giving negative reviews but I just feel like I have to be honest here and hopefully the restaurant manager will read this and see it has helpful and possibly make some changes. I came here with my husband and kiddos after church, this was our first time here and we were excited to try it. We sat down at about 1:45pm, looking around I realized their weren’t many people here for a Sunday, I thought that was odd. As a matter of fact the last few months I haven’t seen any cars in the parking lot. After about 15 minutes no one had come to take out drink order, finally a guy came over to give us chips and salsa and said he would be back to get our drink order… um…ok. He comes back 5 min later and gets our drink and food order. 10 min later still no drinks and I see him cleaning tables. Ok I had enough. So we left and Will not be back.

Abuelo’s has gone a little downhill over the years. When I first started coming to the restaurant years ago, the food was very good and I preferred Abuelo’s over many other Mexican restaurants around the area. They have good happy hour specials and the 1800 Hand Shaken Margarita is very delicious. The prices are high for the quality of food they have now and even though they have updated the menu, the food could use some more work. Also when they are busy, the service can be very slow and the wait staff does not check on you after your food is delivered for water or iced tea refills.

Their roasted chicken is incredible you need to give it a try. Not all Abuelo’s has the roaster but this one does. One of my favorite places just because of the chicken.

Tolerable for Mexican! Not authentic, americanized. Yet good! Service was decent! The restaurant was relatively quiet, even though there seemed to be quiet a few full tables. I’d come again and would recommend this place. But if you’re looking for super fancy or truly ethnic. Not really that kind of place. Still good though.

So I’m surprised this place is only showing 3 stars. Yes it’s a chain, but it’s not like it’s Taco Cabana. It’s Tex-Mex, so Californians will of course be disappointed not to find any baja style dished. Go to Fuzzy’s for that(ew). The prices are good, they do happy hour drink prices on Saturdays, so the waitress we had last weekend is basically now my new best friend. And they take reservations. Great place for big groups. Good location too. Service was a little lacking this last trip, and it didn’t seem to be crazy busy, but we were sat right at the front and I was facing the entrance, so I didn’t spend much time noticing what was going on behind me — just focused on my ginormous margarita :) and my friends dining with me. Again, I think the food here is really good, very consistent across locations. If you’re into Tex-Mex, there’s really nothing about Abuelo’s to dislike. The prices are pretty reasonable, especially for how much food you get.

One more mexican review! I loved their veggie fajita: the portions were generous, and it had all kinds of veggies in it. Ive also tried their veggie enchiladas, which were delicious too. The service is pretty lousy when theyre busy, id recommend booking a table on weekends.

Who get’s excited for Mexican food? I definitely do, and excited to say the least. I have always wanted to go to Abuelo’s simply because the building is gorgeous, and I just knew the food was going to be great. When my friend and I finally went out to eat here, I was amazed at how gorgeous the inside is. I kept looking around, and said this place is going to be my new favorite Mexican food place. After we were seated, things went down hill from there. We were served our chips and salsa quick(which is a plus), however, we did not see our server until about 15 minutes later. When the server came to our table he took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to decide on what we were going to eat. After the server came back with the waters, he took our orders. My friend ordered an alcoholic beverage, and the server asked him a few questions regarding the type of drink he would like. About 10 minutes later, I saw the server, however, I never saw him with my friends drink. I thought hmm maybe he is going to bring it out with the food. NOPE. The food runner came out to us with the food, asked us if the food was okay we said yes… because the food WASOKAY. As time went, we saw our server, but he NEVER came up to us to see how we were doing(it’s cool). After we were done with the food the server walked by and said«can I get you any dessert?» No please… the bill will do. You may be asking, «why did you not ask about the drink?» Simple, because we were on a time crunch(not rushing the drink down after 50 minutes in there), the food took long enough to get there, and it was just a queue for us to leave. Now, would I go back to Abuelos? Sure, maybe a different location. The server could not come check on us, but he sure ran to the table as we were leaving to check on his tip. I will not put the server’s name on here, simply because to. I think this this is a training opportunity for this location. Take time to pay attention to the customer. I mean, who would forget the alcohol, easy sale right there. Check it out, the food was great, MY service was BLAH, I hope you have a better experience. Good location, but can use better service.

We just spent two hours here, very unfortunately. After one hour, our waiter, Dan, told us that he «lost» our order, but that his manager was«taking care of it.» He had no record of what we’d even ordered(?), so we had to order all over again. You’d think that after this kind of debacle, he’d be more attentive, right? Oh, no! Each of our requests(more coke for our daughter, a to-go box, etc.) took at least 10 minutes to be addressed, if not more. Then, when we FINALLY got the bill(which, remember, we’d been promised that the manager would«take care of»), only ½ was taken off and we still had to pay the other ½. The manager, who was clearly aware of what a horrible experience we’d had, did not even bother to come speak to us nor to apologize. Unbelievable and unacceptable! We’ve never had such a horrible restaurant experience and will never set foot in another Abuelo’s!

Not going to lie, this place totally impressed me. I was expecting generic chain-restaurant Mexican food, but I was so surprised! I come in occasionally with a friend for happy hour(3 – 7PM every day but Saturday), and it’s fabulous! Their happy hour prices are perfect for us. $ 3 margaritas, $ 3 tacos, $ 3 guacamole, $ 3 queso… perfection. So far, I’ve been really happy with all the food I’ve ordered there and the service is pretty awesome for a bar setting. I’m sure we’ll be back again soon for some more margaritas!

Pretty good! Nice and quick! warm, tasty food and good customer service. Prices are very reasonable compared to other tex-mex places. Margaritas could use more liquor. Other than that i do recommend!

I’d really would have wanted to rate them 2.5 as this was consensus amongst my 2 dinner companions. Our bill was $ 85 which is pricy for this type of food. Chuys is much better and half the price… doubt I’ll be back.

I think this is a pretty solid Mexican food chain. It’s probably my favorite because of the atmosphere. It’s pretty calm and elegant compared to most others. They bring you 3 different salsas to eat with chips before your meal, and you can mix them up to create the perfect level of heat for you. Their bean & cheese burrito is much smaller than one I’ve gotten at Taco Bueno for like 8 times the price. Granted it tastes significantly better. I like that they now offer mashed baby red potatoes instead of rice. They were surprisingly really good, and probably the highlight of my meal. Our server was very forgetful, and took forever to bring us anything. Our tortillas & extra sour cream that we asked for at the beginning of our meal didn’t come out until most of us were done eating. Despite this, I know I’ll probably be back here sooner or later.

The service was good but the food was very mediocre and the price was pretty high. Definitely not worth the price. I had fajitas that tasted like frozen preseasoned fajita meat. My wife had caritas that were cold. My vegetables were also cold and overcooked.

This place was actually really good 8 – 10 years ago(I assume it was still relatively«new» at that point). However, I remember really liking it and have tried to give it another chance a couple times within the past year. Both times I have been extremely disappointed. There are 2 big issues I’ve noticed. The first is the cleanliness of the restaurant. In my opinion, everything looks like it really needs to be scrubbed down. The place hasn’t been remodeled since it opened 15 – 20 years ago, and it’s starting to show… My biggest issue with the cleanliness was the bathroom. The men’s bathroom was filthy with stagnant water on the floors and a toilet out of order, sink out of order etc. If they don’t clean their guest bathrooms, I don’t want to know what else they don’t clean behind the scenes. The second major issue I have is how much the food quality has gone downhill. The meats taste low quality and the focus seems to be on offering a large menu vs. scaling back the menu and focusing on a smaller # of better tasting and higher quality options. I would much prefer this to a large number of mediocre options. Also, the beans on the nachos I ordered had a weird flavor, but I think they might have just been sitting out too long or overcooked. On a positive note, I still think their chips, queso & regular red salsa are awesome. I like that they serve the really light tortilla chips. I just wish the rest of the food was on par with that. Another thing I’ll mention is the waitstaff has been very attentive the times I’ve been. They were constantly keeping drinks refilled, offering to-go drinks, more chips etc. Hopefully Abuelo’s corporate will revamp this store and implement better management to tend to the food quality & cleanliness issues. Otherwise, I think this chain will be defunct soon.

I know, I know, people are going to think I am a softy but look at my other reviews. It just so happens I ate at 2 great places two days in a row. This was our first time to go here. Eric was our waiter and he did a great job. We had the lunch special with a beef enchilada and a taco. I had Pappas con Chile and my wife had rice and beans. She said the rice and beans were great but after tasting my potatoes she might get that next time. I cannot think of one thing that could have been better. It was great. Yes, we will be back.

I’ve been to this location several times and overall we’ve had a pretty good experience for the most part. The first time we came we had an amazing server(cannot remember his name), he recommended for my boyfriend and I to try the mushroom appetizer and holy moly it was amazing! The second time we came to this location we were seated by the bar and our server was who we assumed the bar tender. Service then was not the greatest, it took forever for our order to be taken and at one point the manager came over to our table(because of our annoyed looks?) we explained our frustration and let me just say that when our server came back we did not have another issue. The next couple of times we’ve been here have been without a sour note, actually I could go for some fajitas from here right now. The food is always excellent, service is good most of the time and the atmosphere is great.

Get the stuffed chicken medallions! This is my go-to dish here and it is a fantastic, unique, and delicious dish. Love the atmosphere here– has an upscale feel– beautiful décor. Service is great. I’ve had the fajitas here too and they’re good as well, but those medallions man…

Great happy hour specials We kept saying we need to try this place every time we would pass it & we finally did. Surprisingly they were busy at dinner time, so we were seated right away. Our waiter came over and gave us the happy hour specials & took our drink orders. We ordered the jalapeño cheese fritters for an appetizer… I’m not a fan of too spicy & these were just right… great flavor! My wife ordered the beef fajita chimichanga & i had the marinated chicken fajitas. Her chimichanga was good… huge & tasty! My fajitas on the other hand… were kinda dry! Usually towards the end the meat may start drying out… but this came out dry! I dashed some lime juice on it… it needed help lol! Once i paired it with the onions & peppers… it wasn’t too bad! The tortillas were greatness! If we’re in the area… we may stop back by!
