Natalie’s Pastry & Cakes

We decided to stop by and pick up some breads and pastries for a get together, and quickly learned that they do not have breads like the sign on the window states. We were quickly told «No» to several inquiries and decided to leave and find another bakery. I don’t recommend and wish I would have read the reviews prior to wasting time and dealing with rude employees.

What happened Natalie bakery?! Seems like taste went down the drain when they opened a second location. My family and I were regulars but hadn’t visited the place in a while. Went back after a serious Natalie craving and was so, very disappointed. The cakes tasted very cheap with really heavy cream. Texture was also very hard and the unique Natalie flavor was completely missing. Figured they might be substituting cheaper ingredients to make up cost differences for their additional location. Hopefully Natalie bakery will restore its formal glory! Till then, I’ll be checking Unilocal for better reviews before the family goes back.

Natalie’s has been one of my favorite bakeries in Plano. We’ve been coming here for years, and absolutely love their desserts. The part that stands out to me the most are their endless varieties and their adaptability. They have some fairly common mainstream flavors — chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, etc., but they also have a myriad of other types of desserts — pistachio, mango, honey. Just a heads up, this isn’t a typical bakery. They have a much larger variety of Persian (I think?) desserts and occasionally other Mediterranean desserts. Most of the things I’ve gotten here I haven’t
The thing I would mention that sets their cakes apart is the incredible amount of moisture in them. They aren’t your run of the mill birthday cake — instead there’s a certain juiciness inside, almost as if they soak them in a juice or a liquid. I think the best way to describe it would be more moist than a typical birthday cake, but not quite as moist as a Tres Leches. I know it might seem a little strange — but trust me, you’ll absolutely love it!
As for custom order cakes, I love how they make these beautiful pieces. Every time I get a cake from here, I get tons of compliments and almost everyone has to ask for the baker. The only downside about the cake is, there’s rarely any left because everyone takes more than you normally anticipate. But, I guess that’s also a good thing for my health, right? Anyway, I’ve rarely had problems with the bakery here. Although I would recommend calling to confirm/​double checking because I occasionally have gotten things that were not exactly what I expected. It hasn’t been a huge problem, to be honest. And most guests don’t notice, but I could see how someone would get extremely angry about some miscommunication here.

Everything looks good, except the canoli was already stuffed. Major points off for that. Hopefully they have a rotating stock, because a lot of classics and good things were missing. Tried a cookie after ordering.. it was pretty good. Hourly the Tira miss cake and the Napoleon’s are work the nearly $ 50.00 spent. I’ll tree-​rate after I try, but for now. .
Down to one star. Cake was dry. Napoleon’s were horrible. No crispness to the pastry at all. Was more like a mushy shortcake. Probably won’t return. Couldn’t even finish one of the 4 we bought. Very Very disappointing

We had heard great things about this place and walked into the shop with high expectations… big mistake. Our experience with Natalie’s was abysmal.
1)When we walked into the shop, the 2 girls behind the counter gave each other pointed looks and started to laugh.
2) The lady helping us was very unhelpful and kept saying, «we can’t do this. we can’t do that» to every one of our ideas without suggesting any that would work.
We finally ordered our red velvet cake with whipped cream and fresh pink roses. A few days later, the morning of the pick up, I called them to add an inscription on the cake. I repeated the spelling of the second name twice.
3)When we went to pick up our cake, they said they didn’t have fresh flowers so they put candy flowers,
4)the inscription was horrifically wrong (there was a spelling mistake) and the space on the cake was used terribly and to top it all off
5)she said whipped cream wasn’t working on the cake so they went with butter cream instead. Apparently, our opinion was not required while taking these decisions.
6)The cake turned out too sweet and extremely heavy.
I am never going back and would not recommend this to anyone.

This place is awful. If you place an order for a special event, be prepared to be disappointed. I ordered my sons Mickey Mouse BDay cake and was very disappointed.
I should have left when they said they could not make a Mickey topper for the cake and I would have to buy one and drop it off the morning I was supposed to pick up the cake.
First off what I requested I was not given. There was a blue border that was not added until I mentioned it at pick up. M&ms were to be all over the top of the cake and it wasn’t. Needles to say they at least tried to make it right and added fondant stars.
As I was driving home (10min drive) something was leaking inside the cake which smeared the happy birthday written in red.
I ordered a strawberry banana and the taste was mediocre, and the banana chunks were turning brown.

Mediocre cakes and filthy place. You feel like you have entered a shady shop with torn chairs and dirty floor. The staff is rude and unfriendly. This place is overrated.

Almost, but not really.
I ordered my daughter’s first birthday cake and discussed it with Zaven, the owner, for about 45 min. We decided on a 3 layer cake with butter cream frosting and ombré roses (really don’t care for whipped icing…)
I emailed them the image we reviewed discussed together as well so there would not be any confusion.
What I picked up was a 3 layer cake with whipped frosting and swirls all around that were AIRBRUSHED ombré …
When I let them know they said they already weren’t charging me enough and that what I wanted was more expensive. WHAT? They had my phone number and email and that was NEVER brought up. They offered to fix if I could come back in 2 hours. I couldn’t since that was when her party was. So they discounted me $ 10 and I left with a cheap version of the cake I ordered.
Long story short if you decide to order anything semi-​important from here be sure to over communicate with them so that you might possibly get the cake you want.
Side note is that her smash cake turned out fine.

I came here specifically for the baklava. Like the other reviews said it was waaaayyyy too much sugar taste. I don’t know if this is just the style of Persian baklava or if they are just being cheap by adding more sugar than honey, but either way I just didn’t like it. I will say the rest of the stuff they had looked nice. Just steer clear from the baklava it doesn’t taste near as good as Greek style. Too bad anyone have any reccomendations for where to get good baklava? It would be nice to find another bakery that carries it.

Must agree their coconut cookies are awesome!!!

This is a very fine peanut butter cookie! Almost melts in your mouth, have not found one better in the area yet. A nice selection of European cookies also.

Pastries were a little dry. Good selection and if you’re not middle eastern, you probably can’t tell the difference between these and other (good) middle eastern pastries.

This place was awful. Maybe they were better in the past, but I tried them out last weekend and it was terrible.
I loved how cute the bakery is and I wanted to like it, but the cakes were just AWFUL. We bought one large cake, and 4 mini-​cakes in different flavors. The texture of the cakes was okay, but they tasted like they had been in the fridge for weeks, having absorbed TONS of odor. It tasted like I was eating the inside of my refrigerator. The tiramisu mini-​cake and amaretto min-​cake also had the same taste, but even worse, the tiramisu cake didn’t taste ANYTHING like tiramisu (no coffee taste or rum) and the amaretto cake had ZERO amaretto taste whatsoever. It just tasted like plain ol’ cake. And bad-​tasting cake at that.
I’m not one to push away a slice of cake over a little off-​taste, but this was so overwhelming that I didn’t take more than two bites. My friends also voiced similar opinions and made «Ew» faces. Nobody finished their slices.
The only reason I didn’t give 1 star is because I didn’t try any of the cookies or breads, which may have been fine.

First off — this is not a real bakery. Not everything you would expect in an American version. Has good selection of cookies that are tasty, baklava i considered to be overly sweet. Did not taste the cakes, but they looked impressive. Coffee not up to snuff. Was expecting some options to take some bread home — bakery right? Not so, bread not available everyday and none at all this week due to the Persian new year. Really?
Service was good, people seemed very nice. This may be a 5 star in Persia, but not a full service bakery over here.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a full service bakery in North Dallas, Collin County — driving me nuts…

Quality has went down …
Natalie’s had some of the best pastries in this area. It is a pretty small place and there used to be very some really nice people running it.
My most recent experiences have not been that good, I got a slice of Black Forest cake and a couple of baklavas:
(1) Black forest cake is supposed to be moist — this thing which I bought here was 99% dry. This was not the case before — their black forest cake was one of the best I’ve ever tasted.
(2) Baklava was overly sweet — Baklava are generally a little sweeter, but the ones at Natalie’s was over sweet — almost twice the amount of sugar what you would typically find
(3) The owner is nice person, but some of the staff is rude
(4) Over stuffing of pastries in a box: If you get 2 slices of pastries/​desserts, I expect them to packed separately — these guys want to stuff all of them in one a box, even if it has to be pressed a little to fit in the box. By the time you get some, they are out of shape, flavors mixed with one another
My last and final visit was in March, I am done with this place after repeated failures.

Expensive? Yes. Delicious and amazing? Yes, more. I love this place. I can’t lie, I might be slightly biased because of the Persian’s who own it, but I’ve also been going here for years, ever since I was a small child, with my dad.
Everything here is amazing, and all the different kinds of baklava will knock your socks off. I love this place. I haven’t tried their cakes, but I’m looking forward to it! I might order one for my brother’s birthday!

Got a cake from here for a office birthday party and was surprised with how beautiful the cake was and how amazing it tasted. The birthday boy wasn’t even a fan of cake and he really liked it. I definitely am coming back for any of my bakery needs to Natalie’s!!!

I’ll never understand people who leave reviews that have nothing negative to say about a place, in fact, they leave very positive comments — but don’t rate 5 stars. This place is perfect. Their selection is big, bordering on huge! The family that runs the place is very friendly. Everything I’ve ever had tastes great. If you just want a treat, try the cappuccino mouse thing. It looks like a cup of cappuccino, the whole thing is edible, and it tastes amazing. If you don’t spend $ 15 plan on spending cash, they do take credit cards for amounts over $ 15. Its very easy to only spend a few dollars on a couple of treats, and they do have some indoor seating if you’d like to eat your treats there.

A while back, I ordered a birthday cake from this bakery. Turned out to be amazing. Both in looks as wells as taste. I think this is a family owned business so they make extra sure that their cakes are delicious. Their prices are quite competitive.
This is a cute little bakery. They have a good collection of pastries and sweets to pick from. I’d strongly recommend their birthday cake collection (though you have to order them about 3 – 4 days in advance).
Great place to quench your sugar and chocolate cravings.
