Too big. If your not already part of the Skyline culture then your player will go unnoticed. Girls that already on a Skyline team from last year will huddle and the coaches will count off 10 – 12 to go to each coach. The girls don’t know you and want to protect their«circle». The coaches made no effort to mix it up so your opportunities were restricted. One coach even to me he wanted my daughter on his team but feared the coach at the next level would pick her. He pigeon holed her in the back corner of court 1. She never even got the chance to step foot on the court the other coach was monitoring. Then he offered her a position on his team. I was pissed. Walked out and joined another team finishing end of year ranked higher. Two years have passed and we signed up for a coaches clinic. Because of size the girls jockeyed for a count that was not already jammed full and ended up with a mixed of young kids. The coaches did nothing to balance skill levels. If your with a group that can’t hit then you can’t demonstrate your defense skills. If the girls in your group can’t serve/receive the the passes suck, so the sets suck so the opportunity to hit sucks. Waste of time and $$$$ tonight. Day 2… got my daughter moved to another court of her age. Morning was going well until them started moving kids to form up teams for the afternoon tournament. Interestingly enough the majority of the skyline royal national team players ended up on one team while about 8 of the skyline black national team ended up as another team. The rest of the 14s in 13s comprised 3 other teams. Stacked the deck with girls that have played together for the past 7 months. Again, unless you play for Skyline or the coaches sought you out, it it tough to even get on the court with them. I ended the day smiling because my daughter rag tag team thrown together today easily beat the girls of the Skyline’s #2 team. The coaches should have be taking names and comparing skill levels by blending the players instead of stacking the deck. It has been about 2 years since we did anything at Skyline. It will like be another 2.
