May have better, but this hit the spot. Ordered the chicken curry for lunch and it had enough food with rice, naan and even a small salad. Value for money isn’t great but the food had good flavor and enough spice to have a bite but not so much that you can’t taste the food!

I loved this place and blame the mean people that just did not like Vijay for the end result. The food was amazing– I don’t care if it was«authentic Indian” — it was authentically delicious!

CLOSED! According to Vijay Sudhu, the owner, and Al Bhakta, owner of the Genghis Grill chain, they have closed the doors and are going to open up something new… «We are trying to change the place because of the demographics and what people are looking for in that area…» Hmm… Interested to see what’s next. I will definitely review upon the re-opening…

Food is pretty authettic. Other reviews haven’t been so positive but I have to believe they’re not overly versed in Indian cuisin. As a chef, I can tell you the flavors are well developed and balanced. Service is always good… making sure to answer any questions we have. Intimate atmosphere. If you want a more upscale authentic Indian restaurant experience, you won’t be disappointed with Sutra. I’m not a personal fan of the Shops at Legacy area but it’s convenient to where we live. Highly recommended.

it would have been nice to have had an opportunity to at least try the food here, to determine whether or not the negative reviews were really that bad, or the positive ones were really that good. but i had a groupon, which required reservations, and no matter how many times i called during regular business hours to try and make the reservations to come in, it seemed as though the phone was left almost intentionally off the hook. or possibly broken? something… it was always that rapid busy signal. so with the deadline fast approaching to use my groupon before it expired, and with the reviews becoming more and more negative, i opted for a refund rather than go well out of my way to try and make a reservation in person — which is completely unnecessary in ANY situation. another potential customer lost. try harder.

Food is alright(I’ve tried Indian food once before my palate isn’t quite developed). The naam bread is delicious though! Inside was nicely decorated. I do wish the wooden benches had some sort of cushion because sitting got uncomfortable halfway through the meal. The guy that took our order was also the one that greeted us, he was a friendly fellow. The other staff worker there was friendly as well. Decent place but it’s expensive.

I really enjoyed my visit here last weekend for the fist time. The ambiance here is very mellow and welcoming. I’m a huge fan of Indian food and was looking forward to dinning here for sometime. Everything tasted delicious! I noticed they don’t have lassi drinks on the menu though. I also wish they would of had a little more variety in the menu.

I really do want to enjoy sutra… I have visited 3 times now, 2 times in the restaurant’s first month and then again today. I am a huge fan of Indian and of course chicken tikka is a dish to use for comparison sake… Sutra’s chicken tikka is very tangy, to the point of nearly tasting sour. The atmosphere is nice and the location is excellent… sorry, but I don’t know if I will visit a 4th time…

You see some things on the menu which you don’t see in other run-of-the-mill restaurants. I had Goan Shrimp Curry on my last dine-in, which was good even though it had just 4 tiny shrimps in it. Some of what the other reviewers have said is true. The sole person who is Owner/Chef/Manager/Bartender/Waiter is not very friendly. I asked if he was the chef, he asked me why? Never smiled once. That is reason enough for me not to go back, but there are others. — The place was empty at 11:45am at Shops of Legacy on a Thursday. — The décor is depressing. The bar looks like something I had in my apartment when I was a student. — The prices of lunch items have trickled up about a dollar a month. — Nothing on the menu is $ 8.95 or even $ 9.95 anymore. — Raita is not served as a side anymore. But I’d have be happy to go back, if the Owner/Chef/Manager/Bartender/Waiter looked like he was happy to be there. And I live walking distance from there.

Great food, I would definitely go back to try more of the menu. My wife and I went to Sutra last night for an early dinner. When we got there, we were the first ones in the place. We were greeted promptly by the hostess, who turned out to be our waitress. She took our drink order and gave us suggestions on the menu. She promptly brought out our drinks. My Kingfisher beer was nice and cold. My wife ordered the Butter Chicken and I ordered the Mix Vegetable Kari(at the waitress’ suggestion). We also order Naan with peshwari. The entrees accompanied with basmati rice and naan came out shortly(10 mins +/-). Everything was awesome. The Kari was nice and spicy(it required a 2nd Kingfisher to cool off my tongue). The naan had a great aroma and was fresh and warm. I tried my wife’s chicken and it was tasty, too. For dessert, we ordered the saffron bread pudding, at the waitress’ suggestion once again. It was not what we expected. It looked like 2 pieces of bread with sauce on it. It was so much more. It tasted wonderful. It was so good that my wife pulled the plate that we were sharing over to her side of the table for an extra bite or 3. Price was what we expected($ 50+). It is not cheap, but the food was certainly worth it. We will be going back to Sutra.

I have eaten here six or seven times now. I still can’t believe how good Chef Vijay’s food is. I went today for his special Father’s Day menu and was again amazed at the quality, beauty and taste of the food. It was four courses with at least two choices per course and it was 18.95 with champagne! I uploaded pics on Unilocal of my choices, take a look. Thanks again for a wonderful experience, Chef Vijay.

1. Cheap furniture, not so good ambiance/music 2. Serve same beer/wine for more than double price, which we can get cheaper from Walmart. 3. No different taste in food, even worse than what cheap restaurants serve. 4. I ordered samosas, they were 2 pieces for $ 7(without chutney), which came with a little garbanzo curry(disgusting in taste). Looted us! 5. Had to order naan separately for $$ 3, LOOTED again. Also, paneer tikka masala, which was not even good was like more than $ 12, insufficient quantity. The dish was pretty big, but quantity was not even surpassing the rim/edge of the dish. It came with a small rice bowl(kid size). 6. Server was good, But the owner carried pride on his nose! Dear Sadhu, You should be ashamed of looting people like this. 7. After a couple weeks, my frnds visited Sutra, they were given UNLIMITED naan, which I wasnt offered when I was there. 8, To close, I would say go to Asoka for better food & experience. For cheaper food, I would suggest, IB café inside India Bazaar. I was really really upset, on my visit to Sutra. I would not recommend anyone to go there. Vijay Sadhu deleted my previous comments, but I will keep posting my review here. You cant stop me writing reviews you **** Daisy, Plano

Service was horrible, we got about a 40% error rate on what we ordered, they tried charging us for 30% more than we ordered. The food was pretty good, but man, what a cluster fart.

Personally I liked it and would go back for more. I’ve only been once for lunch but it is damn reasonable if you’re looking for an inexpensive meal. There’s no buffet, but you can choose from about 20 items(from vegetarian to fish to meat) that are about $ 7.95 or $ 8.95. Everything at lunch comes with raita, rice, naan, and salad. Actually, they bring you the salad as soon as you sit down, which I kind of liked. All in all, a good, solid idea for having a quick, simple lunch. At this time I can say the Aloo Gobi is good – and it comes with a lot of sauce. My friend said the Vegetable Korma was good too. The portions are generous and having extra rice and naan helps you clean the sauce off your plate. I used raita too because it was a little spicy. I can’t call myself a fan just yet but I am definitely willing to believe it could happen in the future!

Flavorful spices and herbs: the Indian contribution to world cuisine! Love it! Unfortunately, Sutra in the Shops at Legacy disappoints! If you’ve traveled the world then you know you have to sample the local food on the streets, in the alleys, or in places where the white man doesn’t go to get a real taste of a culture’s cuisine. There are two clear reasons why Sutra is not authentic Indian food:(1) none of the chefs are Indian nationals — no disrespect to my fellow caucasians, but they are culinary imposters! And(2) the restaurant is located in the Shops at Legacy so it’s clear that the owner is tailoring his food to a particular audience. ASHTRUEHOLLYWOODSTORY: so I’m sitting there at a table with a my crew munching on some Naan bread when I asked for some sort of Tandoori dipping sauce that could compliment our delicious chewy bread. I began to salivate like a dehydrated rottweiler on a hot summer day as the waiter walked to our table with a reddish color bowl of delicious and spicy tandoori sauce. It was as if the waiter was approaching me in slow motion and the famous theme song from the movie«2001 Space Odyessy» suddenly began to reverberate in my head as I anixously awaited the arrival of this delicacy. And when it finally sat before me and I dipped my naan bread in anticipation…(***record scratching sound effect***) «Tomato soup WTF?!» We’ve all had tomato soup and could easily identify it in taste lineup blindfolded! Its taste is undeniable and so distinct! I was utterly shocked and disappointed that the caucasian imposter crew served this up to me that I had to bring it to the attention of the wait staff and the owner(something I never do), but this was culinary blasphemy! I was completely respectful about the matter, but the owner was insulted and vehemently deined that his tandoori sauce was a tomato soup-based concoction/immitation. I was like«really? REALLY? C’mon dude don’t BS me.» He would have none of it so I nervously ate the rest of my food, which was ok, and then rolled out. So if you’re in the mood for Western style Indian food then give this place a try, but it disappoints in my opinion. Objectively speaking, the drinks at the bar are no joke. The bartender created most of the trademark cocktails on the menu and they are pretty darn good!!! I’ll go back for those(and that’s why I give the place 2 stars instead of 1), but that’s about it!

The food was really excellent, but the portions were quite small. Despite that the food was very filling. My husband questioned whether there was added baking soda to the food to give a full filling despite the very small portions. Some combinations very creative but I don’t think we’ll be returning — too expensive for what you get.

Wow — the flavors at this restaurant were amazing… just like I remembered from Samar. I would have given it 5 stars, but the atmosphere and the service were just ok… nothing special. Definitely go for the food though!

I was at Sutra on one of my business trips to Dallas. I go to Dallas often and wish I could eat some decent Indian food. My friends took me to Sutra this time promising me a fine experience. They were right. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Sutra. The owner actually waited on us. I started with a Moksha for a cocktail. Very unique. Loved it. Cauliflower khatmandu and the potatoes and peas croquette for appetizer. A table of four shared the order. Awesome and crisp. Entrée was the onion seeds tandoori prawn. Awesome flavors. Haven’t eaten anything like that. Very well presented and the right flavor and texture. For dessert, I had a Kulfi by Kaurina — just out of the world good. Loved the food and came back once more for lunch before I left. Yes, the restaurant is supposedly new and has a couple of issues. But when i tasted the food, come on… forget those issues. Enjoy the food becuase that’s what I go to a restaurant for. I am definitely going back to Sutra next time I am in Dallas. Thanks Vijay for Sutra. There is now a nice, upscale place in Plano for good Indian food. Can’t wait to go back for Sutra’s food.

I’m so glad that Shops finally got an Indian restaurant to add to all the hype out there. I wake up Saturday morning thinking I am going out for boiled crawfish… how did I end up at Sutra… I have no clue! But, I was there and boy am I glad I went. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, which started off my lunch in a positive note. They have a really nice lunch menu that comes with a salad and yummy naan. I was craving samosas, so the chef agreed to make some off of their appetizer menu even though that wasn’t a part of the lunch menu. The samosas were really good! I ordered the chicken tikka masala. Very delish! I also had a taste of the mahi mahi fish curry(kari), which was also good. With two orders of food and only one small bowl of rice that came out, we had to ask for more rice. I’m not sure why this place was empty on a sunny Saturday afternoon because the food is really good. I noticed that many people walked by, took a look at the menu posted on the window, and then kept walking. Perhaps some feel that the prices are too high? :-/I don’t know, but I will surely go back one of these days.

Guess the teething issues with setting up a brand new establishment still needs to be addressed. The Chef needs to educate the servers and host/hostess about the concept, food etc. Even 2 weeks into opening the server did not have a clue about the differences between dishes on the menu and had to ask the chef. I went there for lunch again last Friday with a few colleagues. We were promptly greeted and seated(half the restaurant was empty) and immediately water glasses were filled and menu was distributed. Most of us in our group were Vegetarians, so we pretty much picked from the Veggie dishes on the Menu. The food came out in about 10 mins and naan bread was served on the side. I ordered Paneer Korma and the dish was quite tasty and flavorful. Others in the group also concurred with their food in terms of quality and taste. Overall nothing to complain about. This time the Naan bread was cooked perfectly. The Manager came and checked with us on our satisfaction and so did Chef Sadhu. They even informed us of Happy Hour that will start next week and we are hoping to leverage on that event. Its always a good sign when the establishment checks on you for your satisfaction and tries to rectify any problems you might have encountered. I usually don’t care much for the décor and ambiance as long as food is really good, but being in an upscale neighborhood of Plano, my suggestion would be for the owners to do something about the décor. Last time the walls were bare, this time they put a few mirrors on the walls which looked very tacky. Hope they resolve the issues and the restaurant becomes a Success!
