I wanted some wiring done (driving lights). The lights were installed and the wiring was extended for ease of access. I called and spoke to a mechanic. I explained what I wanted done. He said that was no problem. We scheduled an appointment. When I arrived they put my truck on the lift and then decided that they were not sure how to hook them into the factory wiring. They should not have wasted my time if they were not sure they knew what to do. This may be a great shop for automotive service, but they are should not waste peoples time. They then sent me to EarMark Audio (same shopping center.

I recently moved to Plano and did not know anyone who could refer a mechanic when my check engine light came on a few days ago. I found Tidwell on the Better Business Bureau’s website. I can honestly say that I’ve never had a more pleasant experience at any auto shop ever! Lauren at the front desk was so nice and explained everything well. They were able to diagnose and fix my truck within 24 hours. I would absolutely recommend Tidwell to anyone and will definitely be back myself!

Sadly they were not able to complete the alignment due to the fact my truck was to long for the lift, but they were very pleasant to deal with!

All the reviews saying the old man is a rude mess are absolutely correct. I just got out of that horrid place.
I took my car in because my brakes were acting weird and I don’t know a thing about cars. The woman at the counter (Laura or Lauren) said that the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced, I got new ones not too terribly long ago so I thought it was strange but I figured maybe they wore out quickly. I left my car and went home.
I hadn’t heard from them near closing time so I called back and was told that they had found a cut brake line. That sounded more like the legit issue. I was so relieved because fixing the brake line would be less expensive than replacing brake pads and rotors.
When I got there to pick up my car, I found that they had done both. Now, I didn’t have an issue paying for both since it was already done, but I wanted to ask a couple questions. Like How long will these last? How do I know when they’re wore out, because I couldn’t tell with theses? Is there anything I can do to make them last longer? You know, questions that anyone who knows nothing about cars would ask.
Well, the woman wasn’t there, the old man was. As soon as I mentioned that I had recently gotten the ok on pads, he threw a fit. He said I was calling him a liar and that I needed to wait for Lauren because he wouldn’t deal with me. He slammed the back door and left me just standing there.
My SO was waiting for me (he had driven me there) and was absolutely outraged at how that old man had just spoken to me. He knocked on the back door and said to let me just pay and go since we were on our lunch break. He started shouting from the back saying he wasn’t going to give my car back or let me pay! Threatening to keep my keys! My SO was freaking out because we needed to go back to work. He was going to be late for a really important meeting.
Well we end up waiting for 20 minutes outside and then calling the police. I needed my car! Laura finally got back while the cops were on the way. She was trying to mediate the situation. She was way more professional than the fool in the back. She answered all my questions and right as I was getting ready to pay (for all the charges) the idiot from earlier comes out of the back and screams «Cash only!»
At this point I was ready to cry because I only had a debit card and I asked earlier if they would take it and they said yes! I plead «I don’t have cash!» He points at me and screams in my face «CASH ONLY!!» I am not exaggerating when I say he SCREAMED. Unprofessional and unnecessary. The woman wrangled up the effing animal, apologized, and took my card. We ran out of there so fast! Will never go back. I hope that poor woman finds a better shop to work for because she was knowledgable and helpful but whoever that mechanic is (I’ve heard rumors that he’s the owner!) needs to learn how to treat paying customers that have questions. Awful. I’m still shaking from being screamed at. My SO was about to break something.
TLDR: Stay away unless you want to be screamed at and threatened to the point of police involvement.

Please don’t delete this as you did on my post ¹²⁄₃₀: Tidwell auto has professional, fast, excellent service! They ordered a part for my car and within next day were able to repair it! Highly recommended!

Very nice — honest prices & good work. Got my car back super quick. Not a bad thing to say. Christian people — don’t interpret that as being a dummy.

I tried to pay for my car over the phone and pick it up at night due to my work schedule. Called them once and they said to call back, called at 5:40, no answer and left a message.
Had to take time off the next morning to pick it up. As I relayed my experience to them while paying for the car, they made fun of my experience. Christian? I think not.
Never again.

Please stay away from this place. I have taken my car here before and never had a problem. On thursday I took my car here and the normal girl who works behind the counter wasn’t there. I should have left then. An older man helped me and he said that the problem with my car was the fuel pump and charged me almost $ 400 to fix it. I was told it would be ready be 930 – 10 on Friday. At 900 I went in to get my sons school bag out of the car and I was told my car wouldn’t be ready until noon — that was fine, no big deal. After noon I still had not heard back from Tidwells so I called up there. The older man who answered the phone was very rude to me and told me that he wasn’t working on my car, the other guy was and it will be ready when it is ready. I tried to ask him if it would at least be ready before the day was over and he said he wasn’t sure it might be next week. At 2:00 I went up there to talk to them in person and the older man would not even come out of the garage to speak with me. Another man told me that they replaced the fuel pump and it did not fix the problem. They didn’t know what was wrong with it. They still charged the amount quoted — even though they misdiagnosed the problem. I will not be going back to Tidwells and will be telling everyone I know to stay away.

I was the middle car in a 3 car pile up on 35 headed to Dallas for Christmas. The car was drive able for the remaining half of the trip, but I was concerned about internal damage causing issues on the drive back to Austin. My boyfriend HAD to leave early Christmas Day to be back for work. I took my car in to Tidwell for a quick check up 2 days before Christmas, hoping they could help me out in a really short amount of time but worried that they would be too busy so close to the holiday and on such short notice.
They squeezed me in and told me I needed a new radiator and wheel bearings. Since I’m still dealing with insurance stuff and we are short on time, I told them to just do the radiator so we could just get it back home for the remaining engine and cosmetic repairs. They ordered the part and installed it on Christmas Eve, just in time! Lauren was great at keeping me informed. I am incredibly grateful for the quick repairs and service, especially considering how busy they were and that it was on Christmas Eve! I would definitely come back if I ever need repairs while in Dallas!

I truly appreciate everything Tidwell Auto Service did for me today. I had to have my car towed due to a brake issue. Whenever I pressed down on my brake, it was stiff and my brake lights would not come on, which caused my car to not start at all (if it ain’t one thing, its another. =/​). Tidwell Auto Service got my car in and fixed my problem right away. I needed a brake switch replaced and I’m glad that was the only problem! Thanks Tidwell! =)

RUDE, shady, slight-​of-​hand methods. Will not be back. Destroyed my trust. Buyer beware.
03÷08÷13− I am an RN, not a competitor and my family and I have lived in Plano since 1985. Opportunity to make the situation right was given at the time I came into the shop. Unfortunate to say the least.
