I sincerely enjoyed every aspect of this restaurant. Atmosphere: this place has a firm idea of what kind of style it embodies. From the hairpin leg chairs to the mismatched plates, this place has a the vibe of mid century and down-home cooking that feels immediately as comforting and familiar as it is trendy and green. Food: Delicious. From the clever variety of deviled eggs to the waffles sealing away crispy strips of bacon, you could taste the freshness of the food from the beginning of your meal to the end. The portions were perfect. The flavors were interesting without competing with each other. I couldn’t remember the last time I so thoroughly enjoyed a brunch! Also, I fully believe that the whiskey cake embodies the idea of the restaurant. It’s thick, dense, with a hint of bite(I would learn later from cayenne pepper) and candied pecans sitting on a thin syrupy glaze. It tasted fresh. It wasn’t overly sweet. Sturdy, like it knows it can stand perfectly well on it’s own. I appreciate the attitude you feel from the menu and the fact that the quality of the ingredients alone separates the food from anything other restaurant in a similar vein as this one. Service: Flawless. It was clear looking at every table that the wait staff know their menu and precisely how to handle their customers. Our waiter Darian made sure to ask us if this was our first time at Whiskey Cake, then proceeded to list out the structure of the menu while adding helpful suggestions that didn’t feel unwelcomed or stuttered. Chris, one of the managers, approached us at the end of our meal. Darian must have mentioned to him we were first timers, as well as passed on the comment I made about the whiskey cake(again, she went out of her way to attend to our table). His passion for the food became evident within seconds of describing the components of our cake. He made us feel immediately welcome, like we were just another part of the family. I wish more managers carried themselves with the sort of gentility and grace that Chris displayed as we chatted. Overall, I was blown away by the experience. Love the atmosphere, loved the food, loved the service. I will definitely be making return trips.

I’ve been a long time customer of Whiskey Cake having come here for years now and have had probably enough whiskey cake to feed a small country haha. For as long as I’ve been coming, the food and service here has always been spot-on. I’ve tried most things on the menu including fried tomatoes, deviled eggs, sliders, rotisserie chicken, ramen, etc. I won’t describe all of them in detail but I’ve never come away disappointed. During my most recent visit, I got one of my favorite appetizers, deviled eggs, and for the entrée I tried the Thai cashew pork baguette which seems to have replaced the banh mi. The deviled eggs here are my favorite and I like that they do different flavors each week so you never get the same thing(unless you get Whiskey Cake more than once a week). The Thai baguette is something new that I’d never seen on the menu so I wanted to try it. It took the spot of the banh mi which was not great but decent given that it’s an American restaurant. The Thai cashew seems to be pretty similar to the banh mi though, with a few twists to make it ‘Thai’. It still comes with the cilantro and pickled carrots and daikon. It wasn’t bad, but like the banh mi, it was just good. Between the two, I think I prefer the Thai cashew baguette. If you come here, you have to try the whiskey cake, obviously. It’s a little pricey for a slice of cake but definitely worth every penny. They give you fresh whipped cream along with the cake and drizzle it with some sauce. The sauce is on the sweet side but the whipped cream is perfect. You can ask for both on the side. It’s quite a big piece so unless you have a big sweet tooth, I’d recommend sharing with someone else. If you’re looking for a place with great food and service with killer dessert, try this place.

Whiskey Cake has quickly become a popular and trendy dining destination, so it was time to venture up the DNT to find out why. We were met with a lengthy wait on a Saturday at 1:00PM. See above, this place is hot. They don’t accept reservations, but they will sometimes hold an opening if you call in within an hour of arriving. Our party of four squeezed into a half booth in fair comfort and were provided with a brunch menu, but were assured we could order off the regular one if desired. We started out with a couple of appetizers, the shishitos and the deviled eggs. The peppers were a little smallish and not very plump, but they had an excellent char and great taste. The egg recipe changes regularly. This day it included chopped, mushrooms, goat cheese, and I believe a little bacon. I’m normally not impressed with restaurant deviled eggs, but these were really good. The OMG burger stood 4 ½ inches tall with a giant fried onion ring cradling a pile of mushrooms. I was able to get my mouth around it after smashing it down considerably. Surprisingly, the bun held together nicely. The patty was cooked exactly medium as requested and the garden toppings were crisp. Whiskey Cake is serious about their commitment to fresh/local. It was good, but I won’t be ordering again for a while, as there are too many more choices. I didn’t taste the chicken and waffles, but they looked great. They’re served with both syrup and gravy(on the side) as well as a couple of eggs. My daughter really liked it. The fries were also top-notch and enough to share. Finally the whiskey cake. We shared between three of us, as we were all pretty full. To me, it’s basically a very rich spice cake, topped with a really sweet(maple?) glaze. They bring a pan of freshly whipped cream and dump about a pint and a half on top of it. It’s over the top, really, but excellent with coffee. More pros: professional experienced service — perfect timing on the courses, and water that was refilled constantly. Only one con besides the wait: no salt and pepper on the tables, a pet peeve of mine, although they will provide grinders of both if requested. WIGB: Oh yeah.

Feels like a big city bar with people minding their business and having a good time. Atmosphere is nice and music is not very loud, so you actually speak(yes, your social skills will show here) Staff is friendly.

I really can’t stop going here. When I moved from Dallas to the ‘burbs, I lamented my ability to quickly resort to a good spot for brunch — one that was delicious, trendy without being pretentious and where the cup of coffee is as good as the mimosa. This is it folks. The rustic design is fabulous. They are child friendly for those with mini-destroyers. Their brunch menu is eclectic, healthy and affordable. We like to bring out of towners here, because it gives us an excuse to leave the house before noon. Me likey.

Please bring back to menu your awesome Lobster Rolls!!! I crave them so bad and still can’t find a place which makes them as good as Whiskey Cake did :) Seriously this is the only reason I haven’t been back lately. All of the appetizers are good though, and I love the concept sit where you want at the sharable tables, sometime you can have quite a good company of people sitting next to you :)

Great place to hang out! Good variety of meal choices — plus a very wide selection of whiskey, bourbon, cognac, and scotch(they offer flight samples)! They also have multiple tables out on the patio, perfect for the summer months! The prices of their entrees were definitely reasonable. I think the most expensive one was the steak, which was $ 24. I ordered the short rib($ 18) and my gf got the rotisserie chicken($ 18). The short rib was fantastic but the chicken was even better! It was juicy and succulent… you can definitely tell it was slow roasted for a good amount of time! The portions were a good size and not too large. I also ordered sum house made beef jerky($ 6) which went well with my bourbon flight($ 16)! I’ve been to their sister location, Ida Claire, over in Addison, but i think in terms of the taste and variety of the food, Whiskey Cake wins it!

Though I grew up in Plano, I’ve been living in California for nearly five years. When I came here for the first time during a winter holiday season, I was a little shocked. Whiskey Cake’s hipster atmosphere and freshly-grown-local-food premise made it seem like a pocket of the Bay Area in an otherwise very Texan spot. I’ve tried the fried chicken & waffles and green eggs benedict. The chicken and waffles were pretty decent — the chicken was fried evenly, the waffle fluffy yet dense. The eggs benedict was not particularly memorable in any way. The titular item on the menu, the whiskey cake, is pretty decent, but overpriced for what it is. They piled that baby up with a lot of whipped cream, of which I’m not particularly a fan. Overall, really nice atmosphere and a very varied menu. I’ll certainly be back to try more dishes, but probably not during brunch hour.

The service left much to be desired. It was a Saturday night, so of course call ahead and put your name on their«list», got there on time, checked in with the hostess and still had to wait an extra half hour because the hostess texted that our table was ready to the wrong number! We didn’t leave the restaurant so they could have easily peaked around the corner to see if we were still there, but I guess that was too much work for them. When we got seated our waitress, also serviced the tables on either side of us also seemed more attentive to them than to us! My husband wanted to order a whiskey flight and didn’t get to till we were done with our entrees, that’s how inattentive she was. The food was probably the saving grace for this visit, the pork brisket was glorious! Definitely two big thumbs up! The fried green tomatoes didn’t leave too much of an impression, there were two left at the end of the meal and I didn’t even have an inkling to try to finish them off. I also ordered the mussels as my main entrée, because I wanted to save some much needed room for their famed whiskey cake only to be disappointed. The cake was dry and definitely did not live up to the hype. Ladies, save your calories for another cake, because this one was not worth it in my book. Mussels were on point thought!

I have been here several times, and no matter what day or time I come, they are ridiculously busy! At my last visit, we actually waited 90 min to be seated. I don’t think this was necessarily a reflection on their service– the hostess was apologetic, our server was fast, and you’ll notice that people just like to hang around long after they’ve finished their food. And they don’t take reservations for parties less than 8, so you may have to wait. On to the food, all of the appetizers I’ve tried are delicious– my favorite are the fried green tomatoes, which come with a tangy sauce on the side. The duck wings are a close second, but the I found the glaze to be a little too sweet for me. The Mesquite short rib entrée is a must-try. I wasn’t crazy about the rutabaga/carrot mash on the side, but the short rib is incredibly tender and flavorful. The only downside is the portion is rather small. The wood grilled pork brisket steak is another good choice. Definitely make room for dessert, and try the whiskey cake! It’s served warm, very moist, and topped with plenty of fresh whipped cream. They also have a great drink selection. Despite the long possible wait times, I’d say the food is worth the wait.

While visiting the Dallas area for business, this place was recommended by coworkers as a must try. Service(5): Hands down, the service was awesome. Super friendly and very attentive. Food(4): Nothing to brag about but, it wasn’t all that bad either. There was not a lot of seasoning which was a turn off for me. My Sea Bass was flavorless and horribly dry; the only decent thing from that plate was the cole slaw. The only thing I enjoyed was the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Whiskey Cake(OMG). Drinks(5): Five stars for the table bottle service Overall, I wouldn’t X them out however, they are not my first pick tor options while in the Dallas area.

Food(4⁄5) It’s been a long time coming, Whiskey Cake, but I have to give you your due applause. From the starter Little Pink Drink to the culminating Whiskey Cake, the food here is on point. A few favorites: 1. The Little Pink Drink: It’s only on the brunch /lunch menu, but I bet you can always ask for it. It’s a delicious grapefruit drink with hints of pineapple, cranberry, agave, and guava. Not overpowering at all and is perfectly refreshing for those hot summer days. 2. Goat Cheese Fondue: The way that goat cheese SPREADS on that sourdough. I tell you, it’s better than any butter, y’all. Perfectly fluffy and the strong taste of the goat cheese pairs well with the sourdough, which tempers the flavor a little bit. 3. Chicken & Cheese Melt: I like to split this with someone(because you want to save room for the Whiskey Cake, right??). It’s just a delectable combo of chicken, avocado, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. But what REALLY makes this sandwich is the pesto mayo. I don’t like mayo, but when it’s paired with some pesto, sign me up! 4. Whiskey Cake: No words could be uttered when I had my first ever bite of Whiskey Cake. I was floored. I was in shock. I was wondering where this had been all my life. The moistness of this toffee cake REALLY outshines any dessert. It’s not too rich or too sweet. Everything about this cake is purposeful, and I don’t think there’s anything I would take out of it since all the ingredients add to the mixture of flavors and textures(e.g., pecans, anglaise). It comes with whipping cream, but you can ask for it on the side if you wish. Service(3⁄5) Nothing super wow factor here. Typical wait service. Expect long lines if you come during peak meal times for brunch, lunch, and dinner. However, if you leave your phone number, Whiskey Cake can text you when your table is ready. In the meantime, you could easily hop over to Willowbend Mall to shop around until your table is up, so that’s a nice convenient factor. Atmosphere(5⁄5) From the waiters wearing suspenders to the little light bulb mini vases as table centerpieces to the Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling, everything about Whiskey Cake shouts«elegant» and«rustic.» Plenty of booth, table, or high-top seating. I believe it’s open seating in the bar area if you’re lucky enough to find a spot. The patio is also a great option when the weather is nice! Bottom Line Excellent food, but even better dessert with the Whiskey Cake! Adorable décor, but the long waits typically deter me from visiting too often. If I ever do go, I try to come on the earlier side of their meal times right when they open to beat the rush. Highly recommend if you’re on the lookout for a cute spot that serves one of the most bomb cakes in Dallas!

One word: YUM Love Whiskey Cake! Can’t believe this was my first time here. I received speedy service during lunch time and I can’t complain about our wait. food: 4⁄5 I ordered the OMG burger(«brisket burger, big onion ring, roasted criminis, muenster, grain mustard, red chili mayo, lettuce, tomato, challah bun») and the first thing I said when I got the burger was OMG. Not even kidding… the burger was HUGE. Also very tasty and flavorful. It’s sooooo messy to eat though. I cut my burger in half and it was still a mess. Presentation of the burger is nice but it’s hard to eat on this plate when everything is falling out of my burger(–1 star). Just like everyone mentioned, you have to order the whiskey cake! I was full but I took mine to go and it was worth the $ 8. I recommend sharing with someone because the piece of cake is too big for one person(at least for me it was). atmosphere: 5⁄5 service: 4⁄5

Passed this many times and finally made my way in, and whadoyaknow, it was Ladies night so wine is on special… perfect! Wasn’t sure what to expect from the reviews but it was definitely worth the stop. Came in early so I was immediately seated and accommodated since I had a 7mo old joining me. The server was very friendly, told us about all the ingredients and the story behind the restaurant. Fresh ingredients… def a plus! We started with the deviled eggs, OMG… AMAZING. Deviled eggs are awesome alone, however they added little pieces of beef on them… over the top! Very fulfilling. I had the chicken sandwich on sourdough… I want it now! The only thing is it didn’t mention that there’s bacon on it, for most that’s the best part, not so much for me so I gave my friend the deliciousness. It was so good… I cannot even explain how much my taste buds enjoyed this dinner. Of course, you have to have the whiskey cake if you go to a restaurant named after said cake… I repeat YOUHAVETOHAVETHEWHISKEYCAKE! Share it, if you feel a tad bit full as this is a lot of food at this point. Obviously, I’m suggesting you stop passing this place by and stop in… enjoy a drink and some yummy food!

Visited on a Sunday night & had about a 25 minute wait. Date night, not. We have our 4 yr old in tow so we’ll start with his review of the kids handcrafted Mac n Cheese: «Good stuff. Very tasty. Eating it all.»($ 4) Appetizer: deviled eggs Mac n cheese style. Mr M is a fan. I’m not usually but these had a unique style & weren’t bad.($ 5) Entrée 1: Basic Burger — 90% Brisket. Very juicy. I typically need sauce but this was perfect as is. Great flavor & cooked perfectly.($ 12.50) Entrée 2: Short Ribs with Butternut Squash. Mr M said the ribs were very moist, great flavor. Horse radish was an ingredient in the squash, which made it very spicy. Our server switched the side out for the cheddar poblano grits which were delicious yet mild.($ 18) Drinks: The Great Escape($ 12) & Guava Gimlet($ 9) — very generous alcohol pours. Guava Gimlet was the more flavorful of the 2. Feeling too full for dessert but we’ll be back.

As I walk into this restaurant, 90% of the people sitting around with happy faces on and has one thing in common on their table and that was WHISKEYCAKE! The name of the restaurant after a cake itself talks how popular the dessert must be and we sure wanted to give it a try. I must say one of the best desserts I have eaten in the country. It’s very generously sized portion of the cake which is good for two people, goes great with a glass of wine or after dinner. Love the ambience of the place and the staff is very friendly, definitely recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth!

Not a good start. I have not been here for a couple of years so. 2.5 stars. — It’s a Saturday, 11:30AM, and the hostess seats us in the patio. It’s been 15 minutes and no server shows up. Kelly had to go inside to ask about service. The server finally arrives and informs us hew as not aware(or somebody) messed up the assignment. He then returns to inform us that this section is actually somebody else’s. Lauren brings us our drinks but is gone awhile, maybe 15 minutes? We’re now contemplating just getting the check and move on. We decide to stay and split an order. We start with a cheddar and jalapeño biscuits which is filling to start. Not bad at all. We then order the pulled pork sliders with a side of fries. The sliders were dripping with grease though it tasted good. It’s just messy that’s all. The fries was complimentary of the main dish. Will return. eventually. maybe.

I’m knocking my review down half a star. If Unilocal allowed for half stars id give a 3 ½. Last night my fiancé and I went here for dinner. We ordered the shishito peppers which were great as always. For dinner I was debating between the chicken melt and the burger. The bartender managed to talk me into the chicken melt. He said it was awesome so I agreed to try it. I ordered it with a gluten free bun. I wish they had told me before my food came out, if you order anything with a gluten free bun, they don’t give you a side. So you’re paying $ 13 for just a sandwich. The chicken melt was awful! I should have just gone with instinct and gotten the burger. The bread was horribly dry and even worse so was the chicken. It had a very bland and boring flavor. Totally not worth the $ 13. I was still hungry because I chose not to eat all of the chicken sandwich. I ordered the deviled eggs that were on the appetizer list. These were awesome! So much flavor. These are a must! Overall I wasn’t too happy about my sandwich. Bad flavor and expensive since you get no sides. The appetizers however hit home. I would definitely recommend getting the shishito peppers or deviled eggs!
