Art of Pilates

I bought a Groupon of 3 classes. I went to only one class and when I tried to schedule the next class online it showed that I had used all my Groupon classes. I reached out to Art of Pilates and they didn’t want to fix it and ignored it. The class I took was good but their customer service is bad.

I really love this studio. It’s very warm and inviting and the location can’t be beat. I love how small the class sizes are and how much attention the instructors provide to their students. Keep up the great work!

Beware of this studio! This is the first time I have bothered to post a review. I want to warn people about this place. About a year ago I had signed up online for some barre classes. I made the big mistake of giving them my debit card information. I went for a few classes and then stopped going. I had to attend to family crises and did not think any more of it. After more than a year I found that they had been charging my card monthly, without my knowledge or permission. The total charges amounted to $ 1677.00!
I was not notified or contacted in any way by the business during this time and was unaware of the continuing charges to my credit card. Since it was my debit card, I had no monthly bills sent to me either. In addition nowhere on their website notified customers that their card would be automatically on auto debit. Presently they have now posted an auto debit note of awareness to customers but what about the customers who have suffered before this note was ever posted? When I discovered this, I called the office and explained what had happened. I asked them to check their attendance records if they wanted to confirm that I had attended no classes. Heck, I had been out of the country for most of that year! They had kept no records on their end. After exchanging many emails they offered to refund me for two months– $ 238.00, –a tiny fraction of the money they had taken from me! I asked to speak to the owner either in person or on the phone. All I got back was a curt reply saying that the owner declined my request to speak with her. She also declined to reimburse me any more of the money and said that that was their final offer. Unprofessional, rude, not to mention terrible record keeping.
In response to their unwillingness to come to a compromise of what would be fair for both parties, I have no other choice but to pursue this through civil court. I feel taken advantage of not to mention robbed!
I wish I could support this local business, but I cannot. Unfortunately, the only good thing I can say about this studio is that at the time I attended, the instructors were good. But for me, this is not enough to compensate for the terrible administration. On the whole, I wish I had looked elsewhere for exercise classes.

I am having the most amazing experience ever here at art of pilates!!! I found out about this spot through groupon, and purchased 3 reformer classes for $ 40. my friend and i unexpectedly ran into Michelle (the cutest, most amazing instructor ever) and she penciled us right in for the following week.
I’ve done two sessions with her already, a level 2 and level 1 and both were so great. i have yet to attend my third session, but I think i’m going to keep going and just purchase the 20 week package.
Not having a clue what pilates was, Michelle guided my friend and I through the entire thing. She really worked us out which i love! She makes sure you understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. she even took time out of her busy schedule to give my friend and I a free lesson on every movement you do in pilates.
The studio is very clean and welcoming. and all the ladies ive met so far have been so patient and sweet, as it was our first time doing pilates. but like everyone else on Unilocal who said they’re hooked, i’m hooked too! i think this is a great thing to put your money towards. :)))) Thank you Michelle, and art of pilates!

I normally do not do reviews but this place is too awesome not too!!!
I did a ton of research (combo of Unilocal reviews and the different businesses’ websites with the bio of their instructors on it) before I decided on which place in my area to attend because I just finished doing physical therapy on my lower back. My vertebrae has shifted forward and my L5 is pinching on my L4. I have been an athlete all my life starting at a young age (which is why now in my late 20’s I am starting to see the signs of this): gymnastics 18 months til I was 10, dance from the age of 3 til 10 and basketball and softball competitively from the age of 3 til college. I also did crossfit for over a year and then got rhabdo so my body has been thru within the last year! The physical therapist told me that I have to be very careful as to what exercise activities that I do as the ones I was doing before 21 Day Fit workout videos, crossfit and anything that is compounding (Zumba & running) I can no longer do. I was shocked and frustrated! She highly suggested pilates as my new main source of fitness as I needed to strengthen my core to hold my back in place.
I started at Art of PIlates at the end of April. I did the intro private 3 sessions. Two with Michelle and 1 with Christina! After that, I was HOOKED! Both ladies were so cautious and kind. I know that my situation is really unique and most would not want to deal with it (the potential of me getting hurt/​risk being higher) but instead they welcomed the challenge with open arms and were invested in me and my health! After the 3 privates, I spoke with both of them and wanted their opinions about what I should do next as I did buy a groupon for their group classes. Both ladies did not try to push anything on me as they understand that financially it can be a lot compared to other workout options. Both were honest and said that they would recommend that I do some more private sessions as with my condition I can not afford to injure myself; however, if I wanted to try group classes they would make it work! I thought about it and for me, my health is the most important since my job requires me to be on my feet 15 – 18 hours a day.
I bought the 15 private sessions with Michelle and it is honestly the best money I have spent on myself! There are not enough words to describe how amazingly talented Michelle is as a pilates instructor and just a truly special person overall!!! She is constantly trying to learn, practice and research new innovative pilate techniques that would benefit each of her client’s situations and fitness goals. Her energy and love that she brings to each session is contagious and makes me look forward to each session that I have with her. I never do the same thing twice and I always get a full body workout, which I love and Michelle is always cautious and concerned about my back. Since working with Michelle (I try and see Michelle two times a week), I have gain confidence within myself about my body and its capabilities! I am so much stronger and have zero pain in my back! As well as I can see the results! I have the body type that I normally bulk easily and now my legs and overall body is looking longer and leaner! I was put to the test about a week or two ago working over an 18 hour day while on my feet and I had no back pain! I was so shocked! What use to take 30 minutes of me standing on my feet would bring extreme lower back pain now is no longer an issue. I am almost done with my 15 private session package so what did I do? I got my groupon pilates class refunded b/​c I only want to do privates with Michelle! :-)

I bought a Groupon for here and I have to say it has been the best thing. I bought the pilates package. It is such an amazing workout and the staff is so friendly and helpful. They also offer Yoga and Barre classes which I will be taking advantage of. It is great to find a place that offers so much at one location and so many class times that it can fit in any schedule. The classes are challenging but the instructors are so encouraging that you dont want to quit. I cant wait to try more classes.

I recently found them on Groupon & am excited to take the Barre classes. In the meantime, I took the sunset flow yoga class with Nadine. She’s super sweet, helpful & patient. It was a bit of a bootay whooping however, I’m looking forward to going back :-)

I recently bought a Groupon deal to take 10 Barre/​yoga classes. So far I’ve only taken one Barre class (it was my first time ever taking Barre) and I absolutely loved it!
I had Heather as the instructor and she was great! Super encouraging and very friendly. The class definitely challenged me and I was incredibly sore for a few days after but no pain no gain!
I look forward to taking more classes at this studio. :)

Just got done with an amazing work out! Purchased the deal from Groupon but ended up buying more! I took Michelle’s class, she is very sweet! Kept asking me how is my back feeling, even though I told her this is my 5^th time taking Pilates lol that shows that she is very nice! The studio is clean! As soon as you enter, you can smell the lavender that’s also important for me…

This is for the pilates classes. I purchased a Groupon deal for a few sessions, ended up buying additional classes. Love the intimate atmosphere of the class. Maximum four people so everyone gets lots of attention. I have taken mostly the classes with Kelly and think she is fantastic. The hour class goes by fairly quickly.
What really sold me on this studio are the following:
Small intimate classes resulting in lots of personal help
Easy parking. there is a tiny lot, but since this a neighborhood place, street parking is easy.
Lots of regulars. the other students are quite friendly and they appear to be regulars so there is a fun casual atmosphere during class.
Evening classes. With classes at either 7 or 8 pm, it makes it easy to go workout even if I am working late at work.
Yes, the classes are pricey, but with all the positive points (for me at least), I find myself committed to going, rather then in the past, buying less expensive packages at other studios and not going because it wasn’t fun or convenient for me.
So definitely recommend this place if the location is suitable for you.

Highly recommended health and fitness facility. Clean, bright rooms, excellent instructors, positive outcome… my muscle tone and fitness level have greatly improved.

Tried their reformer pilates classes with a groupon deal.
I’m a workout slut. Meaning, I can’t settle down to one type of workout, and I like to give everything a try without committing to anything. I’ve tried pilates, yoga, kickboxing, spin, zumba, barre, etc… you get the picture.
I enjoyed taking the reformer pilates here. It’s a cozy little studio, with four machines available. It’s not too big, and the instructor gives you plenty of one to one attention. In fact, one of the times I came, I was the only one, and it was really cool to see what a private session would be like.
The instructors were all great, and I liked that none of them did repetitive movements for too long. After couple of sets we would quickly move on to another part of the body, and it made the hour go by really fast.
I could see the improvement after a few weeks, and I would love to keep going to the classes, but it is on the pricey side (without the groupon).
Even though I didn’t think any of the exercises were too difficult, I would always wake up sore the next day… which was good. I liked feeling like I actually made a difference on my body.
Located right by the beach, the place feels very serene and calm. I’d definitely recommend this workout studio!

I am reviewing the Yoga class. I live in the neighborhood and was always wondering about this little studio. I bought a groupon and attended the saturday Vinyaga Flow class with Junko October of last year (2013), since then I’ve been going to her class every saturday at 8am. The class is very small (2 – 5 people), and sometimes i am by myself which i found it so cool, it’s like having a private lesson (one to one). Junko is a great instructor, i’ve learned so much from her. She corrects my posture and poses, and guides students with the proper positioning.
I will continue to support this quaint little studio.

This studio is small and cute. Parking around the corner is pretty easy… just eerily dark because there are no street lights. I did a drop in community yin yoga class on a Friday night with Junko and it was AWESOME. It was just me and another girl so we got basically 1:1 yoga! Amazingly relaxing. Stretched to the max! I pretty much had a yoga out of body experience, it was so good. Will definitely come here again! :D

I am reviewing the barre classes which is like pilates with a variety of tools like weights, soft ball, etc. I signed up for the barre classes to kind of get a low impact workout in between my cardio days when I am sore but OMG don’t do that to yourself. Definitely walk into your first class not feeling sore from other workouts you have done, otherwise your booty muscles will fail you during class and the next three days! AND that is the reason it gets 5 stars!
I am a little sadistic in that I like to feel slightly sore after some workouts and this pushes my limits EVERY time and I regard myself as a pretty in shape type person — I never thought I would be that person to tap out at least once or twice during sets. You notice over time you start to get stronger and can last longer and use heavier weights.
The class sizes are also pretty small and intimate leaving room for individual attention from the instructor. I look forward to doing these classes at least once or twice a week.

I got a Groupon for some barre classes at Art of Pilates and I’m loving the experience so far! I’ve taken a couple of classes with instructor Alex now and she’s the best fitness instructor I’ve ever had! She’s personable and approachable, designs new workouts each week, and her workouts are challenging without killing me so I’m not too sore to do anything the next few days. I like that she gently encourages us to stretch, push, and pull farther without being overbearing and she always lets us know that it’s ok to go at our own pace and respect our limits. Her energy is upbeat and warm without being too perky and annoying~a perfect fit for me!
The studio is adorable and I like that the lighting is soft and dreamy~it fits the serene beach scene just outside the windows. I like that they seem to rely upon the gentle ocean breezes for air instead of air conditioning; I burn more calories and my muscles are more limber! It can get a little steamy on a warm day or hot summer evening so definitely bring your water bottle! The hardwood floors are clean and pretty but a little too hard for me so I always bring an extra towel and use one of the free thick blankets that are provided by the studio. It can get a little cramped when there is a class of more than ten people but they do have an extra portable barre when the class is full.
My only lament is that the classes are a little pricey and I don’t know if I’ll be able to continue them once I finish my Groupon. I’m also moving out of the area in the next month or so and I don’t know if it would be worth the trip down from the Valley. ;-(

Clarity. That’s what yoga gives to me. Mind, body and soul. I was never a predictable candidate for yoga considering my shiftless, restless nature. But after a few sessions, I have finally let yoga tame me. And what good it has done for my Core!
I’ve actually taken yoga before, a few years ago. It was at a big commercial yoga studio. I learned from it, I persevered, and simply yes, I did benefit from it. But I can’t begin to say how «Art of Pilates» has boosted my abilities in a number of ways. Mental concentration has sharpened, and my physical aptitude has increased. We’re talking flexibility and effortless muscle movement here. This is due, I think, to the more compact comfort zone of «Art» which are made of small classes in a comely deluxe studio, instead of a large auditorium with 25 other busybodies that I had to put up with in my previous experience.
This fact of comfort and privacy almost leaves me at an embarrassment, because I keep asking myself — Why should I share this information with anyone else? I like the small attendance of good practicing beginner and intermediate peers (I haven’t dared taken a tough class like Barre!). I feel like this sanctuary is my little secret that I don’t want anybody to know about. And yet I have been compelled to write my Unilocal praises, because it almost felt too unsamaritan-​like to keep this beachy little temple solely to myself.
I kept this a secret for quite awhile! There I was three months ago, having trouble with plank pose, standard forward bend, cat pose, bridge pose triangle pose, half-​moon pose, headstand with wall assist and generally was fearful that I couldn’t keep up with the flow of Vinyasa Flow. I can now say I flow with the Flow. I’ve been guided by sensitive and attuned instructors, more healthy and dexterous than I, and by keeping up with weekly practice which I have quickly adapted to. And so we have many Unilocal reviews that we share yearly, and yet few are accompanied by a story like this one. At least few by me. I consider my new Yoga practice a success story. I went in and feared, and now I do it naturally.
I will add the small independent studios, with clean and polished facilities and attractive and accomplished instructors, are much BETTER than the big ostentatious studios. It doesn’t hurt either that «Art of Pilates» is one block from the beach.
I’m also using better words now that I do Yoga, and my daily affirmations are done with a little heart. I don’t just say «Om» with indifference anymore. I say, «OOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM!»

As a member of AoP– I love it! There’s a great combination of barre+yoga classes so I don’t burn myself out. The prices are fantastic. Times for the evening classes work well with my work schedule. ALL the teachers are superb with every class being slightly different which keeps me on my toes (literally too).
I do yoga here and there but wanted to build more strength in a different way. So after consistently going 3 – 4 times a week (yoga+barre) I noticed the change in a month. My endurance has increased and I am a lot stronger.
I would highly recommend it to all levels of experience as the teachers are quite accommodating. So go check them out… now!
