We have been here a couple of times when Pompous was playing. They are a great band and it’s always a fun time listening to them! It’s a very divy bar and a lot of fun depending on the crowd.

This is a great little dive. By dive I mean dive bar. Not like the verb«dive» because that would be weird if I made a verb a noun, although it would be dope if they installed a pool out back that we could actually take a dive into. If that ever happens I guess I’ll have to come back here and edit this comment and remove everything I’ve said since the first sentence. But maybe I meant«dive» as a metaphor, because when you’re in Prince of Whales it is sort of like you’ve dived/diven/dove into an ocean what with the grayish/blueish/lowe’s-home-improvement-building colored/cinder-block-prison-wall colored paint that they have on the walls. I digress. Seriously though, there is always a nice mix of MILFs and LMU girls in here. You’ve got the karaōke some nights, live entertainment some nights, ping pong tables out back that a few losers always spend their entire night playing on, and a butt load of TVs to watch any game or syndicated rerun of Murder She Wrote starring Angela Lansbury. Seriously, I made that Murder She Wrote part up, but I suppose if you asked nicely they’d be obliged to put it on there for ya. Bartenders are super cool and super nice and super chill. They do great work. Never a complaint from me. P. S. Phil Jackson’s lesser known twin brother works there. Word of advice, he only answers to «Phil Jackson’s brother» so be sure to head on down and give him a shout. Thrasher out.

I checked in on Unilocal, but upon receiving the menus. I decided not to eat here. The food was ridiculously over priced, and I’m talking just the burgers and salads. The burgers didn’t even come with French fries but were an extra charge. I didn’t even place an order. I decided to leave after seeing the menu prices. Will not be returning ever.

First of all let me start by saying that Rocky, the bartender, is amazing. I’ve not had better service at a dive bar than this, and I’ve been to plenty of dive bars in my day. It’s a cool dive bar and exactly what you would expect out of one. It has a little Florida feel to it like you’re in a super remote area of the swamp or something. You have a crazy mix of characters spread out everywhere, mostly just beer chuggers/college kids. The food isn’t too bad. They have karaōke and people rock it. It’s definitely a good space to come catch a game. A-OK in my book.

Great local spot! The staff is amazing, especially the bartender Rocky. Tell him your name and he will always remember it. The Monday night burger and two beers is unbeatable and they have the best French Fries! They also have darts, ping pong and beer pong. Great spot to watch a game

I went to go visit my friend who lives in Westchester and we decided to walk to the beach and on the way there my friend took me to this sporty dive bar. My first impression was that it was really dark inside, as most bars are. There are a lot of wide screen TV’s showing a variety of sports. They play there music at a medium loudness, which still sucks for someone who has a soft voice like me. So we went outside in the back and talked where the music wasn’t that loud. CREDITCARDS: $ 15 minimum!!! DEALS: Burger and Wing Special + 2 Coor Lights 8.85! DRINKS: I only had card on me and I didn’t plan on drinking more than one drink. and my friend ordered a drink and offered to share with me.(I was grateful and I just paid for the Über later :)) This was my first time having a Mai Tai(9.50) and it was good! Couldn’t taste the alcohol that much and it was sweet :) SEATING: Plenty, plenty of seating. At there bar there are about twelve seats. And all throughout the place there are about 12– two seaters, and outside there are a lot of round tables and high stools. PINGPONG!!!: Two ping pong tables!!! Get your competition on!!! My gf and I played two sets(tennis scores: P) of ping pong. :) UBERANDSPRINT: Headsup, if you have sprint and are trying to get an Über. There’s not much reception here for that: P

My cousin lives in the neighborhood and brought me here. This place has a shitload of TVs. Chill environment, strong drinks, plenty of space. It’s definitely the spot in the area to watch sports. There was literally a TV on every corner of the wall in the bar to the right, so there’s no way you couldn’t get a good view of the game. I don’t know how busy it gets when there’s a popular sport on — I was there on a Friday night during baseball season so who the hell cares. Check out PoW if you’re in the area.

This place is great. As far as bar food goes, it’s the best around and I love how the kitchen stays open late. I’ll go here over Moe’s(which is basically next door) every time. The 2 bartenders who always seem to be here are so nice and never keep me waiting. Beers and ping pong on the patio, can’t go wrong. Drinks are priced nicely, not too expensive at all. It’s a great place to grab a casual drink during the week or party with friends on the weekend. When the LMU crowd comes in it gets pretty packed with a young crowd, so if that’s not your thing watch out for Tuesdays I think it is.

Love Prince o’ Whales! When I think of a local beachy bar, POW is it for me! The service is great, the people who frequent are relaxed and the drinks are stiff. Me and the bestie came for dinner and it was lovely. She ordered the club sandwich and I had the fish tacos. Needless to say, in the end our plates were clean. I was initially concerned the tacos I ordered would be fried, however as I ate my tacos the breading fell off and I ate it like a «healthy» fish salad. Very fresh! Rocky is the star of this place, truly. DELISH! Will return for sure! Parking can be Ugh!

They have the BEST French fries I have ever had. You must try the seasoned, double-fried ones, as always served alongside a delicious trough of ranch dressing. Their burgers are amazing; I have tried both the whaleburger and the turkey burger. Highly recommend either. Buffalo wings are also delicious. I highly recommend coming in whenever Cheryl is working. She is the sweetest woman I have ever met.

Local spot. Do not play the Pinball Machine. Rolling Stones is an amazing machine, but the owner of the machine, Rob Thorn, has tilt turned up too high and the machine loves to eat quarters. Be sure to tip your bartenders!

I knew right when I walked in I was going to love this place. I’m a sucker for a good dive bar. Stopped in POW with the bf last night since we were in the area and the restaurant we wanted to eat at had a 45 minute wait. We decided to grab a drink while we waited. When you walk into this place you can choose the right or left bar. There’s an area in the middle. We chose the left bar since it was less crowded. The bartender and atmosphere were awesome, in typical dive bar fashion! We got a pitcher of Blue Moon, and of course as soon as we poured a first beer, the restaurant next door called to say our table was ready. I wish we lived in the area because I would definitely come back.

This is everything I want in a dive bar. Strong drinks, kind bartenders and an outdoor patio. They had karaōke the night I was there so I spent the majority of the time outside which was absolutely delightful. You can smoke out there so my date was thrilled. We had a great time!

Yep, I’m a fan. I’ve been occasionally frequenting this joint since college. POW’s is a dive bar — a locals dive bar that embraces everyone. The regulars are quite friendly and always ready to have a good time. Far from fancy, but nice. The crowd is cool and the bartenders are friendly and attentive. Lots of seating, live bands, and average bar fare. Great place to watch sports or simply get plastered.

I LOVETHISPLACE. There is also nothing I love more than a good dive bar so you may not agree with my 5 star review but its 5 stars baby. Been coming here recently for the World Cup games — TVs everywhere and there are always plenty of seats. They also have this burger + 2 beers deal for $ 8.99 which is amazing! I’ve gotten their veggie burger twice super good. My friend got the turkey burger and said it was great and not dry at all. THEFRIESDEARGOD! SOooOOoOOOOo delicious. I’d come here all the time if I could. Unfortunately I can only go most of my lunches.

I love how there are so many different rooms at this bar. It’s like having 3 bars in one. There is one side with a bar and seating, the other side has a stage for live music which they have often. And there is an awesome big patio out back where you can play beer pong and enjoy your beers outside. They have a lot of TV’s out there for watching sports too. Don’t get me wrong this place is definitely a DIVE bar but that’s why I love it. It’s the best dive bar in Playa compared to Mo’s down the street. I’ve been here during the week and on weekends and it never gets too crowded which is nice. I haven’t eaten here yet but I heard the food is pretty good.

I. Love. This. Place. I’ve been hitting this place up for a few years now. It is the perfect combo of a dive bar and Cheers. Rocky, the bartender, is AWESOME. Make sure you say Hi to him and introduce yourself because he will for sure remember you. From the outside, this place looks super sketch, but it’s actually pretty spacious inside. Two separate rooms and a back patio with ping pong tables(where beer pong usually happens). Everyone knows Everyone here. It is the quintessential neighborhood bar. My boyfriend and I had our first date here nearly two years ago and Rocky loves telling everyone that story when we show up. Everyone here is super cool. I ended up showing up here on Thanksgiving once and they even have their own Thanksgiving dinner where regulars who are away from their families all get together and have a pot luck. How fucking awesome is that? The crowd here is mixed and lively. You can easily stroll in here on a Sunday night at 11 pm and find a decent crowd, but not too much of a crowd. A Baby Bear Crowd: Just right. Karaōke nights are awesome! Everyone participates. There’s also this rad older lady that looks like she just walked out of Studio 54 who shows up regularly and gets her serious dance on every single time. I LOVEHER. Not a care in the world, shaking it to J-Lo. Seriously, I can’t get enough of this place. My boyfriend and I now live in Lawndale, but we will drive all the way here because we love it so much. Don’t be intimidated by the outside, come on in and enjoy yourself.

It’s no secret that I’m a dive bar fan. Even so, there are sh*tty dive bars and great ones and everything else inbetween. I gave the Prince O’ Whales a solid 4 stars even though the men’s bathroom only accommodates one person at a time and it smelled like Vera De Milo’s armpits. There was also some kind of thick, yellowish, gel-like substance on the floor which I jumped around like the agile ninja that I am. The POWs has character; it has it’s own unique personality that is a mesh of locals both young and old and LMU students, which seem to get along very well when we were there. There were definitely a few cuties around too. But what really gives this place character is the people who come here and the people who work here. I’ve been to dive bars before where most of the people are grumpy or don’t like it if you’re not a local; I got the opposite feeling here. Though there were different categories of people here(college students, old timers, locals, people passing through, the raging alcoholics, the band groupies, etc.), everyone seemed like there were there to have a good time. It’s was a solid, chill and relaxing vibe here, almost welcoming. My partner in crime, Lili H., and I stopped by before going to LAX International airport and I’m glad we did. There was a cool, hip band playing an eclectic variety of music. Some of the folks got up off their tables and another couple got up from the bar and started dancing. My kind of place! The coolest bartender ever, Rocky, hooked us up with a smile and corporate-like efficiency that I almost forgot we were at a dive bar. The locals were very cool and one of them started chatting with us and the next thing you know, we were exchanging phone numbers because she was a regular and wanted us to call her the next time we came up from behind the Orange Curtain. There is a small parking lot next to the join and some street parking. We arrived around 10:50 pm on a Saturday night and had no problem finding parking in the back. The next time I make a trip to the MDR area, I’m definitely coming back here. And this time I’m going to try their food!
