I really wanted to like this place. It’s been on my bookmarks for a while, and I’m a fan of Top Chef Brooke Williamson. Unfortunately, not only was the food not that good, but the bartender that night was RUDETOTHEMAX. My friend and I came in on a Wednesday night around 9:30pm. The whole place is tiny and the communal tables are so small, that you’re literally squeezing in with random strangers. Luckily, we found seats at the bar. I had a few questions about the drink menu, but after answering my first question, the bartender immediately went to take another person’s order. Hello, I wasn’t finished yet. Strike 1. Eventually I ordered an overly sweet white sangria. For food, I had questions about the antipasto plate. You pick 3, 5, or 7 items to create your own. I asked her what she would recommend and she said nuts, olives, pickles — pretty much nothing substantial and everything I dislike. I asked if any of the meats or cheeses are good(cause that’s kinda the point of an antipasto), and again, rudely, she answers, «Hey, those are my choices. If you want meat or cheese, go ahead and order that.» Wtf. Strike 2. Along with the antipasto, we shared the black rice paella. On paper, this sounded amazing, with duck, chicken, clams, and snails! But when we actually tasted it, it was incredibly salty. To the point where I couldn’t even finish the last few bites. In addition, I ordered a glass of Malbec, and I never had wine I didn’t like until now. It was very dry and hard to drink. The staff started to clean up at 11pm, and we asked if they were closing. The bartender said yes, and we said, «Oh okay, Unilocal says it closes at 1am.» Bartender replies, «Well we’re not Unilocal.» Attitude much lady? Strike 3 and no tip for you.

I’ve walked by this place countless times, but have never gone in because I am so loyal to Señor G’s down the street. Well, I have been missing out. Everything we had was delicious. The sweet potato tater tots, the pretzel burger, and maybe the best cobb salad I have ever had. There is a store in the back of the restaurant that should sell beer, but sells artisan housewares. We didn’t have to wait for seating but could see how it would be a problem if it was busy. The house in the back should be more tables instead of a shop maybe?

Great place for lunch and dinner, BUT be prepared to wait around the times they are busy. It is an extremely small restaurant so you will most likely have to wait to get seated. Some of my favorites I’ve had are: Balsamic marinated onion rings Tripel Burger Squid ink spaghetti cookies & bourbon milk I would suggest to come for lunch better since it’s a little easier to find seating at that time.

Great little hidden gem in Playa Del Rey. Park on the streets! Ambiance: Pretty casual. A lot of locals seem to come here and I can see why. The people are friendly including the staff! The lighting is dim which creates an intimate setting. Venue: It is a pretty small restaurant, so be mindful when it comes to seating! Seats are limited, so you may be sharing a table with strangers– great time to meet new people. If you plan to come with a group larger than 4, then you may have to wait a little bit. Food: +Onion Rings: I don’t usually eat onion rings, but the bf orders loves them. These rings are huge! They are flaky, soft, and crunchy. It also comes with a spicy aioli. YUM! +Tripel Burger: The only reason why we keep coming. Let me just say, every time we come here, we say we are going to try something different– but it never happens. According to my boyfriend, «the burger has a good meat to bread ratio.» I have to say it is true. The piece of meat which consists of duck, pork, and aged beef was moist and flavored nicely. +Phantom Carriage Broadacre Raspberry: A great beer to have with the burger. It is a light sour and doesn’t have that harsh tartiness like other sours. Tip: Bathrooms have heavy sliding doors, so get ready to workout your biceps. :)

One word: TINY. The place is tiny. The portions are tiny. The seats are tiny(barstools, terrible for your back). Parking? You guessed it(if you can find street parking, good luck squeezing in). Bathroom is just one stall for the ladies. One thing guaranteed not to be tiny? $ YOURBILL $

This place reminds me of a neighborhood dive bar except they deliver some bangin food. Located between a bunch of beach condos, this small gastropub can be easily overlooked. But you’d really be missing out if you by pass this spot. I will begin with the dining room is tiny. Like 3 communal tables and maybe 8 seats at the bar. This place can easily get overcrowded on a fri and sat night. Don’t let the small space deter you from eating here though, there are some great flavors coming out of this kitchen. The lamb burger was juicy and the homemade pickles were delicious. I am not a fan of pickles but these were good. The clams and mussels were amazing. The broth is a little spicy and so herby. Oh so delicious. The sweet potato tater tots were very yummy. A great snack if you are just here for drinks and something light. Next is parking, there is no dedicated parking lot. street parking will be your friend. Unless you can’t find any. The service was great and I would highly recommend eating here. They have a revolving craft beer list, mostly tripels and Belgian ales. Check this place out!

Small, local gastropub in the heart of quaint Playa! Exquisite burger and yummy garlic fries. Bar service is really friendly with a wide array of exotic ales and brews. Couple of TV screens for good sports viewing as well. Locals help keep this place vibrant and busy. Parking can be a bit tough.

Wow, this place was so good! Just to let you guys know, this spot is tiny. There’s only three long tables and a bar. We had to wait a while since we had a party of 7, but it was well worth the wait. We ordered a bunch of items to share and everything was amazing. We started with a few drinks, and my favorite was the prosecco. It’s fruity and carbonated, which was perfect for me. For appetizers, we agree the sweet potato tots and the crispy pig ear salad. The sweet potato tots were so good! Bite size and sweet and kept me coming back for more. The pig ear salad was just okay, I think it had a little too much dressing on it. For our entrees, we ordered the squid ink spaghetti, skirt steak, paella and the Tripel burger. We got two of each since we had a large party and it was definitely enough. My favorite was the paella which was citrusy and spicy. It had duck, chicken, clams and snails! I think it was the best paella I’ve ever had. The spaghetti also had a citrus and spicy kick to it. The burger was unique with its apricot jam, which added a sweetness to the savory burger. The skirt steak was just okay. I highly recommend coming here for dinner and drinks! We had a great time!

This place is great to come to after going to the beach. They have a decent selection of beers and the food will DEFINITELY fill you up, especially if you have a burger or one of their sandwiches. Their turkey pastrami sandwich is super satisfying along with any variation of deep fried things: P Parking is definitely an issue, but if you do have to walk, it isn’t terrible. There are a lot of residential neighborhoods around the area that have free parking, plus if you decide to go from the beach it’s just straight down culver blvd. The Tripel is worth a try!

Given the high ratings, I had high expectations for The Tripel but it was just a-okay. I came here for brunch & there weren’t too many people yet. I had a sangria — it was good, no complaints but also nothing memorable. I split the following dishes: *Turkey Pastrami Melt(cambozola blue-brie, picles & stout mustard on sourdough) — I don’t know what part of this made it «pastrami.» It was much closer to a lunch meat turkey sandwich. Bread was mediocre. would not get again. *Antipasto aka their charcuterie — It was better than the pastrami melt but again have definitely had better. The store behind Tripel — 5 stars! So many cute, artisan things. Highly recommend checking it out after eating!

I was on a search for good burger places with good beer in and around Culver City. This was one of the two restaurants that I popped out from all the choices. Great looking food and great reviews. I am glad I tried this place for dinner. I ordered the sweet potato tots that came with two sauces, the mustard sauce tasted better. The tripel burger was so good. The sauce was honey mustard goodness. It also came with a big side of arugula salad which was awesome. The Belgian Beer Flight is came with a nice selection of 4 belgian beers. I liked the monkey beer the best. Our host/server was so nice and friendly. Service was prompt. I would be a regular if I live in the area. A+

This is a cute and cozy gastropub that offers a really good variety of craft beer. Came here on a Thursday night and was lucky enough to find parking outside and get seated right away since it had seemed it was so crowded in there. Not a huge fan of the shared seating, but once you get settled and take a look at their menus, your mind starts to ooze about all their craft beer options and foodie items. Keep in mind though, I came here with a friend mostly for their drink selection and not their main entrees. We tried a lot of great things starting off with an organic chocolate stout which was amazing! Not too overpowered with chocolate notes, but definitely not super bitter. My friend also had an aged dark cherry cider which was just as great for anyone looking for something a little fruity and powerful. It was(9.5%) Another good favorite had to be their not your fathers root beer, which we were surprised it even had any alcohol since it tastes exactly like the sweet root beer we all come to enjoy. Their service was also great! They kept mentioning good food items, and they eventually recommended their chocolate chip cookies and bourbon milk! Milk was a bit weird for my taste, but it does compliment the cookies quite well. Overall, such a great experience, and I can’t wait to come back for a new beer list!

This was my first time eating in the area, and at I was already getting kind of nervous since I circled around the area 3 times in hopes of snagging a parking spot and finally was able to grab one along the neighboring streets which luckily wasn’t too far away. Crisis averted. Now with that parking catastrophe behind me, I was more hungry than ever. When you walk in, the place gives off more of a bar vibe than a restaurant because the bar area definitely catches your eye with the different beers they have on tap and a cool, hip environment. It’s also pretty dim in here which I like because it makes things a little more intimate despite the already really small space. There aren’t many tables here, so you will probably have to sit right next to some strangers at a table and share, but I was lucky to grab a spot at the bar in the corner so I had some space to myself. For drinks, I ordered the Belgian flight which includes 4 different kinds of beers for $ 13! Belgian beers are definitely my favorite so I’m glad they had this option for me to try different kinds. My favorite was the peche which literally tastes like a peach! They also have the option to make your own flight for those who want to try specific beers on their menu. I shared the bucatini carbonara and tripel burger with a friend and was moderately full! The food is definitely a little pricey than a typical bar/restaurant deal with each plate between $ 12-$ 20. While the food is pricey for what you get, both items were really good! I’d probably stick to the burger next time and a beer though. For 2 people, the bill came out to be about $ 60 with tax and tip! With so many places in LA, I’m glad I stumbled upon this place, but I’ll most likely come back for the different beers they have on tap!

Its TS2(Two Star 2uesday) again!!! For my first TS2 of 2016, I came here for lunch and I was wondering YTF I did?! There is no parking lot, the spots in front are 15 minutes, and there are limited 2 hour spots across the street. My b’ness associate and I had to walk up the street to a residential neighborhood to park. I read the signs in the residential neighborhood, but I was still hoping I would not have a ticket when I returned. The Tripel is a gastropub, and is located on Culver in Playa del Rey, not too far west of Jefferson. Unfortunately, my food experience wasn’t much better: Maybe I should have had a burger. However, I was having beef for dinner, and I opted for pasta. I ordered the squid ink pasta($ 16 — ground shrimp, lemon, chili oil, herbs & botarga), while my associate had a lamb burger($ 14, sorry no pic). The pasta was so sour, and the portion was so small for the price. I would have left the food, other than the fact I was hungover and craving carbs. I didn’t want to send it back for fear that a food server would do something unappetizing to my food. I ended up eating a can of Progresso when I returned to the office and some tortilla chips leftover from our Halloween potluck three weeks earlier: 1 Star. My associate ate his burger, but he did not eat his cole slaw. However, he did not rave about his burger: 3 Stars. Regarding the service, it was OK. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was pleasant, but not overly attentive or friendly: 3 Stars. The ambiance was OK. The stainless steel bar is cool, and there are a few tables: 3 Stars. The Tripel was more like a dubbel(double), matching my TS2 review. It reminds me of a Father’s Office wannabe. I would have a hard time coming back here even thought I liked the look of the bar and its offerings. The lousy pasta, and $hitty parking situation are too much for me to overcome.

On the tab Persimmons cheese platter Uni pasta Pretzel burger Pros Persimmons was out of season but it was replaced with pears but equally good. I could eat that dish everyday. Tripel’s a gem of a gastropub in PDR — through the dimly lit ambience are decorative wooden walls, a large selection of beer(on tap and in bottles) and great food. It’s a cozy place with about 8 spots at the bar and three long tables that seat 6 each, so sometimes you’ll have the share the tables with someone else. Good thing the crowd here is fun and friendly. For food, we got the Sweet Potato Tots and the Mussels and Clams. The tots were decent and came with two dipping sauces. The Mussels and Clams are highly recommended. Come with a good amount of food and the sauce it comes in is great — if anything, dipping the tots in the sauce can be pretty tasty as well. A good place for beer, good shareable food, and chill times.

The tripel is one of the few hearty dining spots in playa del Rey that i enjoy ! Unfortunately there is usually a wait on any day, but I can say that it is defintley worth checking out if your in the area . I have to recommend getting here before the dinner rush of 6307 so you don’t get stuck in a corner of a communal table feeling trapped.(yes this place is about half communal half regular and bar seating) They have some interesting dishes here, but the must haves are the crispy pig ear salad with egg, calamari(not the fried kind) and stuffed dates) They have gourmet burgers as well as some nice vegetable accompaniments . My only gripe is this place is pretty small! However service, food and a mildly intimate atmosphere make it an awesome spot in the marina area!
