At times I feel that this place is a bit better than Best Buys when buying Movies or Music. They have a super large selection of items and you really can’t go bad here. I found some stuff to watch, now that I canceled my Movie channels at home I am collecting lots of movies.

Sadly, this location will be closing forever and ever at the end of January after being in the mall for twelve years. As far as music stores in the Tri-Valley go, this store is actually not half bad. They’re pricey and the corporation makes their employees push extra stuff on their customers, like the discount card, reservations, etc, making them seem like car salesmen and women. The selection, though, is pretty decent and I’m not looking forward to having to drive all the way to the Rasputin’s in Concord for good music now. What’s even more sad isFYE treats their employees like trash. Nothing is ever good enough for them even though these employees bust their own balls each and every day for these thankless savages at Trans-World Entertainment. I know this for a fact because I worked there for a total of 2 ½ years. The only perk was the 30% employee discount, even though it did not apply to sale items. If the company would treat their emplyees and their customers better, then they may be able to keep more of their doors open longer, but that’s the unfortunate reality of the cut-thoat corporate world.

This is must-shop store at Stoneridge Mall for me. Maybe its because I grew up in the 80s and 90s and I still like the old school CDs or maybe its because I’m cheap and love to sift through their 3-CDs for $ 9.99 collections of greatest hits… whatever the case may be, FYE is a fun way to spend 10 – 15 minutes at the Stoneridge Mall. I remember going up to purchase a CD set one day at FYE thinking I was getting a great deal for $ 10 only to find out that they had some mystery sale happening and the associate gave me an 80% discount on top of the already discounted price! The staff is friendly, but not pushy… they are there to help. The prices are reasonable for music stores these days and the selection is about as good as you’ll find in the brick and mortar world(have you seen Borders and B&Ns pitiful selection lately?).

This is my FYE of choice now that the FYE in Newpark mall is closed :(. I’ll admit at first I didn’t like coming here because the prices are higher than best buy, online, burning off the internet…(shhhh) lol but one employee at the Newpark location convinced me to sign up for a membership after telling me about the 10%, birthday, and used discounts. Yes I know that with the discount the price becomes the same as the other chain stores BUT it’s very rare that I can find the animé I’m looking for at a Best Buy or Frys(curse Fry’s… I needed Death Note Vol. 3 but instead they told me they have 4 copies of Vol.1). They have a good selection of used dvds and cds. Haven’t had any trouble with that. It’s nice to have a place in the mall that carries music, dvds, VIDEOGAMES, and accessories. The employees at this location don’t make as much conversation with me as the store in Newark but most of the time I don’t need to be talked to since I pretty much know what I want when I go. The store is dimly lit… kinda weird but I can’t complain because whenever I come here for something they have it :). Definitely a must visit if you need an Animé fix and can’t make it out to Japantown(or ebay!). :]
