They’re the under-the-hood element of the Safeway delivery service. Admittedly started out as a big fan… particularly when soda went on sale and I didn’t want to lug it into the cart, then into the car, then into the house — delivery took care of the first two, and the delivery fee wasn’t too bad. Then… soda stopped going on sale. Ever. «Bulk items» — soda, water, stuff in cans and bottles, forever remain the regular price. Big difference, really. Bummer. Then… noticed that the price on the shelf in my store isn’t quite what it is on the web site(unless the items are on the weekly ad, then they match). Not a big difference, but it’s there, and pennies add up to dollars eventually — or on a large scale of customers. So, I’m driving back to the store. Except it’s now Target, whose grocery section is a pretty close second to Safeway, minus some of the crowds, distraction of having the groceries + bakery + Starbucks + sushi bar + deli + floral counter + in-store bank + Coin Star machine… and all that other crap mixed in.
