Pleasanton Library

I’ve tried coming here a few times, and it’s very loud… especially for a library. For kids, I’d recommend it as a place to get books and go. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who’d ever want to actually read in there, though.
I walked in to find a nice place to read my books and was instantly repelled by how loud it was.
I won’t be going back there again.

I like to try different places to study. Today I came in here, and it was more like a park, then a library. I would of course like peace and quiet when I study. But of course even in the quiet study area, I heard someone’s over the phone 15 minute Doctor appt.

Well, it’s 6 years later… and I’m updating my 1-​star review to a 5-​star one!
Pleasanton Library has really turned their act around. After repeated complaints and even an admission from one librarian that they had known issues with getting material checked back in properly, I haven’t had any problems with them in years.
It’s a beautiful library. They often have new compact discs available for reservation long before the Alameda County Library does, *and* they subscribe to Billboard magazine? Win!!!

Fun place to hang out (for free) with the kids. Tons of books, wooden trains, kids kitchen and some other stuff. 4 stars since the place can get quite busy.

Small little library off of the downtown area of pleasanton. I really like the architecture of the building. It’s a single floor building. Quiet and plenty of study space

This is not a good place to study by any means. The study area consists of a few small tables near the reference section. I tried studying here once, and being that my laptop had poor battery life, so naturally a sat by an outlet. A few minutes later I’m not so kindly informed by staff that I have to disconnect my charger since my chord was a trip hazard. I thought of asking why that outlet was even there then if using it is apparently against the rules. I didn’t though, realizing I was in a library after all and shouldn’t be arguing. However that wasn’t even the worst part.
The study area was open so I would constantly hear the screams and shouts of annoying children. Not to mention some would run up to me and distract me or touch my stuff without permission.
Is it too much to ask for to have a separate study area in its own room? Every other library I’ve been to has one. For now, I’ll just stick to the coffee shop if I actually want to get anything done.

I adore this place. It’s been a second home to me through my high school years, and I always feel at peace here when I come back during winter and summer breaks. There are plenty of computers here for short searches or surfing the web, and the librarians are all sweet and helpful. I’ve also held my share of events here, and it’s a breeze. It’s a wonderful addition to the community, and a great place for studying, reading, and holding meetings.
Also, their system is one of the best. You can easily find books and request books and DVDs as long as there aren’t any still on shelf. The San Jose Library doesn’t let you request DVDs, so you basically had to stake out the DVD shelf if there was a new-​release movie you really wanted to watch.
What I love about this library is that it’s always updating itself. As an avid YA novel reader, I like that I can put in requests for books that I want, and the library will actually fulfill those requests. The books on their shelves are always changing, and most of the time, if I really want to read something, the library will get it. I remember the days when the scanners were much less advanced, and there wasn’t that huge glass partition. But the Pleasanton Library has preserved its quiet, comfortable feel. As a reader, I’m very grateful this place exists.

One of the best libraries in the area. Long hours (till 9 pm on weekdays) and opens every day throughout the week.
They have a great children’s area, with lots of toys and games to play. Tons of children’s programs throughout the year (not very crowded usually). Librarians are super friendly and helpful. Perfect place for kids!

Beautiful and quiet library. They almost have everything you need. You can also check out ebooks which is very convenient (need a library card to check our online ebooks) staff are always friendly and nice and help you with all your needs. Library itself is very nice and organized. Almost always perfect place to read or study (besides when schools are out and kids just flow in, it gets a little noisy) otherwise chill place to read and relax

I went yesterday to get a library card. The person in charge was so friendly and helpful. I really liked the vibe of that place. Its a happy place!
I also liked the collection of books & TV series there. I’m into mystery/​thriller novels and I found a good collection there. I’ll be a regular visitor here. The timings are good too, open till 9 pm at night on weekdays.

The Pleasanton Library has a really nice children’s area. They have about 6 computers that the children can use to play some educational games. It’s also very neat and organized. Besides books, they also have a couple of shelves for children’s DVDs.
As for the adults area, they have about 10 computers available. Although, a couple of them are only used for catalog search. They have a good amount of tables and chairs for anyone who needs to get some work done. There’s also a few couches scattered around the back area, where you can usually find someone taking a nap lol. Visitors can scan and check out their items by themselves which makes the checkout line move a lot faster.

Great kids section of picture books. Clean neat library. I like that they have many interesting events going. There is an area where kids can play trains with turntable, computer games, computer internet use, wifi, teens can do homework. Plenty of parking.

Lovely children’s section, when it isn’t overcrowded. Toddler lap sit didn’t work for us. We were spoiled in Portland Oregon and Fremont California where the toddler library time was more energetic and engaging — books for everyone to touch, songs with movements, etc. Here at the Pleasanton library our experience involved lots more quiet sitting and watching than elsewhere — hard work for any toddler.

They have great gluten free seminars on Tue and Thu at 7pm. Kim is very knowledgeable about gluten free world and I highly recommend going to one. You will learn a lot of info.
Parking was great too.

Taking away a few stars for two reasons:
1) best place in town to get a door ding
2) the young adults librarian, Teresa, doesn’t seem to like young adults, or really anyone for that matter.

Our new favorite library! Almost like a mini-​preschool. There is a train table and play kitchen that you can check out items to play with as well as puzzles.
Our girls love the books and DVD selection as well :)

Honestly, before my kindergartner’s field trip last week… I hadn’t been to the library since high school. Why? I’m not sure. I like reading, but apparently I don’t like reading THAT much since I haven’t visited the library in a decade.
Anyways, the field trip… it was good. We went over to the kid’s section, since we were with a bunch of five year olds. It reminded me that I should bring my kids here more often, instead of purchasing books at B&N. I mean, yes… we’ll still visit B&N too, but my girls read a lot. We should take more advantage of the library.
I had to get a new card, since I had no clue where my original one was. The lady who worked there updated my information. The info they had was my parent’s, since I was too young. Made me laugh. I remember spending summers there, reading as many books as I could for the summer reading program.
I want my girls to love reading as much as I did. So we will be making many more trips back here.

This is a great library if you have a toddler or two! They have a very large children’s area, which includes two play areas and several spots for reading. You can check out a box of trains for the train table, or check out kitchen stuff for the kitchen set. We spent a good 1 ½ hours here on a play date. We let the kids run around the front of the library, where there is some nice shade spots and some grass, before going home for nap time.
The only thing that would make this nicer is if there was a small play structure in the front area, but I guess I can’t expect that from a library…
