Workbench True Value Hardware

The nicest, friendliest and most well stocked True Value store I’ve been to. Bought a wheelbarrow for $ 25 with a half off coupon. Salesclerk was a kick. Looks like a happy place to work.

I have two left hands when it comes to doing home improvement work. I procrastinate just for the fear of screwing it up. But this store and the guys here have slowly helped me overcome the fear. They are knowledgable, helpful and will not sell you crap just for the sake of it. There is no pressure to buy. It is a small store so you don’t feel intimidated by all the different stuff.
Surely recommend this place to anyone in the area

Sunday 8÷23÷15 was first time I was ever treated poorly and rudely. I just wanted to pay for a part and had to wait a long time at counter. Tom a worker there was by himself looking at keys. He didn’t even acknowledge I was there. I asked him if things were just free today. He rudely said I’m helping another customer, sorry I can’t do 2 things at once. Then he came over to the counter but instead of taking my money he rang a buzzer about 5 times and then went back to look at keys by himself. Another couple minutes went by and he finally came over and took my money. On my way out he said sorry to inconvenience you. I didn’t say it but I’m thinking no I’m sorry to inconvenience you and by the way it won’t happen again. Next time I see owner I sure will tell him how poorly I think I was treated by worker Tom

wandered into Workbench to see if they stocked the battery my car key needed. after finding the battery section, i was helped instantly and my battery was found within a minute. (after i passed along the pertinent info).

This is a 5 if you understand (or can remember) that this is the way hardware stores used to be. This is a 1 or 2 if you grew up knowing your only choices are Lowes or Home Depot.
If you’re part of the later generation, you come here when you need something fixed but don’t know how to do it. The staff here is very knowledgeable and they’ll greet you and ask if they can help you. Don’t be intimidated if you’re not used to this. Just explain what you need or describe the problem that you’re trying to solve, and they’ll either take you to where they keep the item you need, or take some time to help you figure out your problem. This is in contrary to Lowes or Home Depot where a lot of the folks are there part time and really don’t know what they’re talking about, but at best know where to direct you (or not).
The items in the store might be a little outdated, but only on 1 occassion did they not have what I needed. And their customer service is great. I had a set of desk keys I needed made, but they didn’t work. They gave it another go, even so far as making another key with a different blank.
And bonus: this place is next to the neighborhood crack house named Donut King :)

What a hidden gem! My husband said this is the best hardware store he’s been to in years! They were knowledgeable and ever so helpful. We got help with 5 different things!
I even heard them giving little gems of wisdom to other customers about items they were buying.
Prices were very reasonable. Go here before you go to a big box store, I think you’ll be glad you did.

Frankie here is very helpful.
Unfortunately though today I waited for 40 minutes to do a simple return.
Tim the cashier charged me for items I was trying to return instead of refunding me. It took the entire staff to help correct the problem at the register.
They let each new customer step in front of me at the register while solving the problem.
So a quick trip downtown became the bulk of my sunday morning.
Protect your time, avoid this true value.
