I am reviewing based on my April 2015 wedding reception. We cannot express enough about how AMAZING we were treated as the bride and groom! They really went ABOVE and BEYOND all night not only for us as the bride and groom, but also for our family and friends. We consistently had perfect service even the morning after. Their breakfast was great too! I wish we could get married again and again just to have our reception there again! HA! We had the atrium and it was PERFECT!

This is the worst golf round I have ever played. We had a 6:28 tee time teed off at 7:00. They booked us behind a league of 5-somes.

We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of our wedding reception this past week. We rented the Nazereth room for our small wedding reception(~40 people) overlooking the atrium – it was perfect. The staff was exceptional throughout the planning process through execution. The hors d’oeuvres selected for our party were served to perfection: mini caprese basil crostini, forest mushroom flatbread and the goat cheddar grilled cheese with tomato bisque shooters. We served our guests the paired duet with filet mignon and panko crusted chicken, salmon and were also able to accommodate our vegan guests with a beautifully prepared smoked tofu dish. We offered the ultra premium bar, which was kid-friendly offering cocktail type cherry cokes and Shirley Temples(a real crowd pleaser) — adults were happy too! They were also more than accommodating with a non-alcoholic toast. The event came full circle with a staff that was clearly dedicated in making this event very special for us. Although our party was small, they made us feel like the most important couple in the world!

I am not kidding. This conference center is the best-run facility I have attended in my 25 years(so far) of business. The food service available outside of conference rooms is spectacular. The rooms are great. The restaurant is superb. The architecture is awesome. A fantastic facility.

Stayed here Thanksgiving weekend to be near family. Very lovely staff — including front desk, restaurant, room service, and housekeeping. The room was large and the bed was very comfortable. Loved the walk in shower and all of the soaps and lotions that were made available for us. The pool area is absolutely wonderful. It has a Jacuzzi along with a Waterfall wall and a large area that you can swim around. The one thing there that is lacking is lounge chairs that you can lay down on. But, the beautiful pool and jacuzzi itself more than makes up for the lack of seating in that area. They do have a small fitness center, we did not use it but it looked to be fully outfitted with everything that you would need. We have family in the area and this will be the place that we will stay at from now on. The grounds and the interior of the property are beautiful and we have found our stay to be incredibly relaxing which is just what you need during the holidays!

I coordinated a wedding held in the Atrium room this weekend, during a blizzard. I cannot even express in words how AMAZING the staff at the Inn at St. Johns were. Entire timeline had to be shifted due to the weather, and the whole team came together, made a plan for going forward, and did everything in their power to make the day as perfect and special for my clients as it would have been without the horrific weather. I have never had a venue make me feel more at ease, and to say I am grateful is a huge understatment.

I had the pleasure of attending a beautiful wedding here this past weekend that included both the ceremony and the reception. I have also attended the annual Michigan Child Abuse and neglect conference here four times. I must say that the Inn at St. John’s has never disappointed. Throughout all of the events I’ve been here for the staff have been courteous and attentive. The grounds themselves are breathtaking and the architecture is gorgeous. The setup of the chapel is different than any other I’ve been in. It is set up so the two sides are facing each other(toward the aisle) not the front of the pulpit. That makes for good people watching but maybe not great church. I have always enjoyed the meals provided at the events I’ve attended and have no complaints here. The bathrooms are plentiful and spotless, which is always nice right ladies? I really love this venue and recommend it for special events. I’ve never stayed in the hotel but I’ve heard great things.

Beautiful property popular for weddings and golf enthusiasts alike. The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to check in early for a wedding. The space is large and a little difficult to navigate(although they have many signs). They have countless halls, atriums, and banquet areas which make it easy to serve multiple purposes(weddings seem to be a big one, but there were business conferences going on as well). The rooms were comfortable with plenty of space and nice new furniture. The bathrooms had double sinks and new showers. Take a walk around the property if you are able as it has a beautiful chapel, nicely arranged outdoor areas, and I am sure many other beautiful sights that we missed.

My husband and I stayed one night in one of their King rooms. The room was completely updated with nice furniture. The bed was really comfortable. The room size was decent. A nightstand on each side of the bed. A chair with ottoman. Desk/table, Flat screen TV with movies. The movies are newer and range between $ 16 – 18. The TV was sitting on a TV cabinet with shelfs on one side and a fridge on the other. The bathroom was also fully updated with premium finishing. Nice size with double sinks and two person shower. The shower is wonderful. However, I did notice that there wasn’t a fan in the bathroom so it got pretty steamy in there. They did have a comfy bathroom robe. The lobby and hall areas are clean and updated. Our view was not the best. Overlooked the parking lot. The grounds are massive and beautiful. We went on a night time stroll. There were several weddings going on. Parking can be a bit of a hike, depending on what time you arrive. We don’t mind walking especially if the weather is nice so that wasn’t an issue for us.

I stayed at the Inn at St. John’s recently for a business trip and was very happy with my accommodations and the service they provided. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, and I can see why many weddings are held here. I was there in mid-October and the foliage is stunning and would make for some lovely pictures. They also have a nice restaurant off of the main lobby(Five) that serves breakfast in the mornings and dinner at night. They also have a full bar and decent wine list. The buffet they put out for breakfast is pretty good too and includes both hot meal items(eggs, bacon, sausage, etc.) and also assorted cereals, breads, and pastries. A caveat: breakfast is not included in your stay and the buffet is your best deal at about $ 10. My room was nice, I had two queen beds and both were very comfortable to sleep in(yes, I tried both!). The bathroom was also nice, and very spacious, but I did find the sink and countertop space to be very small. I was one person and it was barely enough room to put my toiletries on. It would have been nice to have some extra shelving to help alleviate the small counter space. I know some past reviewers said that the service and staff were not up to par but I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and I could always find someone if needed. They were attentive to my needs as a business traveler and also assisted in making sure that the room I was using in the conference center was set up to my specifications and that it was clean and secure. Overall, I enjoyed my business trip at St. John’s and would recommend them to anyone looking for accommodations in or around the Detroit area. Although, if you are looking to stay closer to Detroit I would recommend a different hotel since St. John’s is quite a ways outside the city(30 minutes or so).

Beautiful grounds for a wedding! Old world charm. Chapel provides for a weird wedding ceremony as the bride and groom have their backs to the group the entire time. Waitstaff was efficient and pleasant. Food wAs good, but not completely out of this world. The cake, meh. Can’t speak to the overnight accommodations but over all a 4 star in my mind!

I’m normally here at St. John’s as a vendor(DJ) for weddings. Today, I was actually a guest and the experience was quite different. Still, in a very good way. The event started with a martini bar that was held in the reception area just outside of the Grande Ballroom where the dinner and main event would be held. During the cocktail hour, there were also hors d’oeuvres available. The wait staff was very attentive to those of us eating and drinking. If a glass was empty or plate was finished, it was removed from the cocktail high-top in no time flat. They made sure that the area was as elegant as possible. Inside the Grande Ballroom, the experience was the same. Done with a dish? They would remove it immediately. I didn’t see the waitstaff standing around a lot. They were always doing something. The food was delicious. The meal was steak and mashed potatoes served with an asparagus topping. It was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The potatoes were firmly creamy and the asparagus was crunchy to the taste. It was nice to be a guest this time. I love working with the people at St. John’s and moreover enjoyed being a guest. If you’re considering an event here, the investment is worth it.

Attended a wedding here on 4−12−14. The covered canopy was a blessing for my bride as it was raining. Walked in & the hubbub/energy in the lobby was electric. We found out where to go for the cocktail hour and headed that way, I do not recall the name of the room, but it was on a lower level, cozy & comfy. Carey the bar tender, all on her own kept the guests/us quite happy & made a sensational cosmo. Also the staff that carried plated appetizers were polite/friendly & dressed like servants to a king. Black long sleeved attire, gloves & conservative hair-makeup etc. And the quality of the appetizers were fabulous, and to many to list-name-remember. After 60 minutes there we casually walked over to the atrium for the banquet– reception Truly a cool room with glass atrium ceiling, large lamp posts & a garden– resort theme . The tables were decorated very Very elegant, with nice linens, silverware, plates & flower vases that were about 30 inches tall. We were served a MAGNIFICENT meal. A salad that was very flamboyant in greens, veggies & a perfect light dressing. Then Danielle our server inquired if there were any allergies-dietary restrictions & informed us that the main course was on its way. The staff delivered all the meals in unison, quite the display & presentation. Our main course was a 4 – 6 ounce fillet & panko chicken breast with grilled asparagus & potatoes 5 stars for sure in taste quality flavor & presentation. So about an hour later, they served us all wedding cake & opened up a dessert room which had smores on a stick, chocolate mousse, carrot cake, crème brûlée & a host of cakes, cookies, pies & fruit. At 10:45 they set up a buffet of pizza to make sure the guests were content. Please take the time to check out the chapel, common areas & architecture. St Johns was truly firing on all cylinders.

Very nice hotel up in Linovia area. It’s apparently a monastery /golf course too. My room was quite nice, beds were very comfy! The downfall to this place is there isn’t much around this area. If you drive 5 — 10 miles away, there are a bunch of shopping strip malls around.

A great venue for any celebration. We had our 50th wedding celebration here and it was perfect. About 50 of our friends were here and everyone enjoyed the dinner. We started with a cheese and vegetable appetizer and it was great. The blue cheese was some of the best ever – lots of guests mentioned it especially. We asked for a sit down dinner and the service was great. Three choices, beef, salmon and chicken with some fancy descriptions were offered. I ordered the beef and it was one of the best hunks of meat I have ever had. My wife had the salmon and said it was better than the beef. The bartender was friendly and the bar choices were good. In preparation for the evening the staff was very helpful in setting up the slide show and music. Molly Vaughn was great in organizing the event and Guy controlled the evening perfectly. Will go back for 75th for sure.

My grandparents recently had their 50th wedding anniversary celebration at the Inn at St. John’s. I’d been inside this building once before to eat at the 5ive restaurant, but I’d never been inside any of the beautiful and stately rooms they have available for various events. Our event was located downstairs in the Wisdom room. There was a separate bar and bartender, as well as a spread of hors d’oeurves that included goat and blue cheese, hummus and vegetables, dried mangoes, etc. About an hour in, dinner began to be served. We had the«prelude» of mushroom ravioli. When I asked the waiter if they had an alternative, they brought me out cheese ravioli(because I am not a fan of mushrooms). They were very accommodating. The salad course had a blackberry vinaigrette and tasty crostini on top. The entrée choices were herb-crusted chicken, atlantic salmon, or filet of beef. Everyone in the party said all were delicious. The dessert course consisted of three small bits of dessert — a mini fruit tart, a cheesecake, and a chocolate dipped brownie. Overall, our service at the Inn was a great location for a celebration.

I really wanted to like this place. From the outside, the grounds look great. Reminds me of Cranbrook on a smaller scale, with the lovely gardens and landscaping. The small golf course looks enticing. Even inside the inn, from the cozy lobby and nice outdoor patio seating for the restaurant, to the motion detected waterfall in the pool, everything is appealing to the eye. But when you get down to the nitty gritty details of service, that’s when the failure sets in, unfortunately. Usually one of the first things we like to do is lay down on the fresh sheets on the bed, but this time was icky because the pillows smelled like sweaty armpits. It was almost hysterically funny how bad their cable system set-up was — it took forever for it to switch from one channel to another, the TV monitor going completely dark from 15 seconds to over four minutes. We went to the pool area thinking the jacuzzi could work out the kinks in our sore muscles and achy joints, but the jacuzzi jet power was next to non-existent, a slight fizzle. So we tried room service, ordering matching salads and burgers. The salads came with no dressing, burgers came with no ketchup or mustard condiments. We had ordered the burgers medium-well, but they both came very rare, one bleeding the buns soaking red. We got nauseous from one bite into them, leaving our stomachs ill for the rest of the evening. We called to send them back and the manager Tim said he’d be right up to get the food and apologize. This was around 6:45 p.m. I left the food outside the door eventually to get it out of sight, out of mind, and as of midnight, it was still sitting outside our door, no apology in sight. The one thing I could understand, given the age of the former seminary, was the incredibly loud creaky bathroom door which made for awesome 3 a.m. bathroom wake-up calls. More went wrong, but I’m actually tired of writing about the place. Nuff said.

This review is for the grounds only. The Meadowbrook Concours D’ Elegance has moved to the Inn at St. John’s and it’s a beautiful setting for the elegant cars on display. Now called the Concours d’ Elegance of America, the event is a do-not-miss for the car crowd. Rolling hills with lots of green space, it’s a beautiful place to go and see the cars. Downtown Northville is running a shuttle from the public parking lot next to the post office, courtesy of Poole’s Tavern and the local Allstate. It runs every 15 minutes and drops you off at the front of the exhibit.

I was recently here for a wedding, and the place looked very intimating from the outside. It resembled a modern church with a small touch of medieval. The church itself was laid out in a very strange manner, with the benches facing each other(and the middle aisle) I found this to be particularly awkward, since we would have to twist our heads or our bodies in order to see the priest and bride/groom. Other than that, the space was very lovely and spacious, with vaulted, cathedral ceilings and beautiful stained glass murals. The layout of the place was nice. They had 2 gardens(that I saw) where wedding photos could be taken. One of the gardens had a big pond with a waterfall and koi fish inside. It also had the first blue koi that I’ve ever seen! It was very cool. But the reason I gave this place a mediocre rating was because of the food. Now I’m not particularly fond of how food is presented at these American weddings. We had a salad, a main course, and cake for desert. I’m more used to Asian weddings, where there are many courses, and the food is put on a lazy susan for every to get a bite of. But it’s fine, because this is just personal preference. The salad here is good, and the croûton was delicious. But it was the main course that got me. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The salmon was fine, but bland. No flavor at all. The mashed potatoes were the same. Filling, but no taste. The asparagus was burnt. 3 out of the 4 stalks that I had on my plate was burned. If Gordon Ramsay was here, I’m sure he would have smashed a plate or two. Would it be so hard to replace my asparagus instead of serving me burnt ones and hoping for the best? A guest next to me only ate ¼ of his breaded chicken breast. He said it tasted like nothing. The main courses here are comparable to a pushup bra — while it looks stunning and appetizing on the outside, it later is revealed to be disappointingly lacking. The desert was good though. They had a great spread of sweets, but since I’m not a big fan of sweets, I only had a little. I had about 3 or 4 chocolate-covered strawberries though. However, one of the berries was rotten on one side, and I had to spit it out. If you’re going here for a wedding, don’t have high standards. The place may look good, but is ultimately as empty and lacking as the food.
