Well done Bog Pub! I live within a mile and tried this restaurant 4 – 5 times previously, each time with a vow to never return. Last night my dining companion and I returned one last time, we are so glad we did. I am a major foodie, so eating out for me is a challange,(I can make better at home), the smoked tomato soup was absolutely delicious, my friends’ clam chowder was sensational,(I dislike the gelatinous, thick goop that passes for chowder) this was fresh, light and loaded with clams. I then had duck livers in brandy cream sauce with puff pastry(i had been dreaming of this dish for several weeks) $ 10 and didn’t disappoint, my friend had the salmon burger, it also was tasty, well seasoned with a touch of smoked salmon. The chef according to our waitress, taught at 4C’s culinary program, long may he stay, we will be back soon, 4 stars this time and 5 next? Just want this to continue!,

Like the slogan says«It’s worth the U turn». You get some culture in the food, staff, and drinks! Great out door dining, food is top notch, and pricing is well worth it. It’s worth mentioning that they use local farms… We’re not hippies but consider us converted for sure. Try Thursday at the bar with Courtney… free bacon, you can’t go wrong!

Starting positive– the clam chowder was awesome! The staff was very friendly too. The rest of our food was marginal at best. My burger was dry and tasteless so i resorted to picking off my sons plate just to be similarly disappointed with his chicken tenders and fries. Normally I would have chalked it up to a bad day but was floored at the reaction of the server when she asked how my meal was(as we both stared at my plate that still had a full burger with 1 bite out of it). I told her is wasn’t great and she just looked at me like ‘oh well’ and walked off. Still had to pay for it and ended up having to eat cereal when we got home just to fill up. Disappointing.

This place was amazing!!! Tastefully decorated. Excellent craft cocktails and such fresh and wonderful dishes. If you like littlenecks, you need to order theirs!!! Don’t miss out. Also there is an outdoor area for kids to play in a sandbox and explore while parents eat and keep close watch. Win win for everyone!!!

A fine place but not perfect. Locals love the Bog and one can see why. First rate mixed drinks.(One member of our party had an intriguing and quite filling bacon Mary. I was quite happy with my alt-rose-sangria with saint germain. A highly innovative and entertaining menu. The day I was there the main menu was filled with Yankee restaurant stalwarts(steak with demiglace, roast chicken, grilled fish) while it was the appetizers that were on the lunatic fringe.(Apparently during the winter season, a lot of the lunatic ideas make the main menu as well.) This particular night, going all appetizer was the thing to do — since generally lunatic = good. A smoked tomato bisque with crème fraîche was suitable for writing home to your mother. The serving looked(and was) small — but the soup was so rich and so intense that just a few spoonfuls were really just right. Clams with chorizo, harissa and«lots of other stuff» was one of those dishes that are complicated but are not really a wonderful combination. The clams got lost in all the stronger ingredients which did not play that well with each other on the playground either. But there was a lot of it and it was not unpleasant. The North Carolina Pig Wings were a mis-step. This was a cute attempt to make deep fried riblets. They don’t have nearly the complicated interesting taste of the other dishes — and the sweet sauce they serve with it doesn’t do that much to help. That said, all the locals who were with me raved about legendary dishes they had been served at the Bog in the past — and the drinks and the good dishes were a clear sign that this is an interesting and stimulating kitchen. My bet is that this is a fine place worth repeat visits — and it is a kitchen that takes chances. I got unlucky with one or two of the chances — but innovation and risk taking in the kitchen should be rewarded.

There were 5 of us for dinner tonight and the good and service was fabulous. We had chicken parmesan, pub burger with cranberry bbq sauce, pulled pork sandwich, spicy salmon burger and the kids mac & cheese. We each also had the clam chowder. We would definitely recommend The Bog Pub!

No doubt about it, ABSOLUTELY worth the u-turn! I LOVE my fellow Unilocalers, you have yet to lead me astray. This charming pub delivers everything you could want-charm, great service, creative and delicious food at reasonable prices-and on Thursdays, perfectly crispy bacon is served as a munchie in the bar!(They had me at bacon!) Let me tell you, deciding what to order was very difficult, there are SO many tempting selections. We opted for a few appetizers and a burger to share between 2 adults. Our child made a fabulous choice-the bacon grilled cheese, perfectly grilled French bread with gooey cheddar cheese and crisp bacon, simple perfection. The adults had Crispy Cauliflower with Romesco Sauce, Pilsner Fried Pickles with Chipotle Ranch dressing, Crispy Pig Wings with North Carolina BBQ Sauce and the Pineland Farm Burger. The Crispy Cauliflower was flavorful but not as crisp as we would have liked; the Romesco sauce was unnecessary(but good) as the cauliflower was well seasoned. The Pilsner Fried Pickles were crisp and the pickles had great flavor. The Pineland Farm burger was very good(though we did request more cranberry BBQ sauce), but compared to the rest, it was the last finished. I have saved the absolute, lick your fingers and beg for more, dish for last-Pig Wings! Didn’t know pigs had wings? Neither did we but boy are we glad found out! Made from the shank, there are 3 pieces, each a single bone surrounded by lean, tender meat. OMG! These are slap your Momma gooooooood! The meat was perfectly seasoned, slightly crisp and oh so tender and flavorful. If this was all we had had, we would have been thrilled, provided that there were several servings! One serving could be a meal for a small to moderate eater, but order extra cuz they are too tempting. We were stuffed, but wanted to try the S’mores Brownie Sundae. This was the only real disappointment of the night and since everything else was outstanding, easily forgiven. It was a graham cracker square, topped with a brownie then another square, followed by a very small scoop of vanilla ice cream &4 toasted marshmallows on the edge of the plate & chocolate drizzle. The graham crackers were difficult to get through(I think a sprinkling of crumbs would have been better) and it was extremely sweet and could have used more ice cream to cut the sweetness. Clearly, we had a great meal, and I must say that the service and ambience were were equal to the meal.

We came because so many of the reviews talked about great food! Nope… Everything we had; calamari, salmon burger, even the truffle fries were poorly(if at all) seasoned. Definitely not worth it, especially for how out of the way it is. On the flip side the staff was extremely nice! Makes you wonder if they were trying to compensate for the food…

I’m writing this review while I sit in the restaurant well over an hour waiting for our food. We had our appetizers(bland calamari but tasty little neck clams) almost immediately and then nothing for an hour. No one has even come to check on us. We have 2 small children, there are 8 of us. No matter how good the food ends up being, it’s not worth this long of a wait. We are tempted to just walk out since no one seems to even realize we’re here. I’m editing this because our food came and it was very good but 2 dishes were lukewarm. The server apologized and they took our apps off the menu and gave us a $ 15 gift certificate. I wish there had been better communication or at least acknowledged us, we would have been understating. Although the food was good, because of the long wait, we left with a bad taste.

We had heard the food was good so decided to try it.(it’s not in a location that one would normally think to go for a good dinner). Cioppino was excellent. My dinner partners loved the flank steak. The staff was extremely helpful in offering advice. If you’re driving down 28 off the Bourne Bridge, it’s definitely worth stopping! We’ll be back often over the summertime.

The smoked meatloaf was very good it came with a tomato jam on top. The dish came with mashed potatoes which were very good and seasoned Brussel sprouts. The wife had the chicken Palm over pasta which had creamed garlicky spinach underneath the pasta. This is not your ordinary restaurant this place has a well trained chef it was obvious. The only reason I give this place four stars is that the meatloaf was on the small side and I would have loved to have leftovers to bring home.

Excellent! Very varied menu and something for everyone among the small plates, appetisers and entrees. Very good service. Nice décor and ambiance. Our group ordered the Mezze Plate, Ciopino and Bolognese — all delicious. This restaurant is a welcome addition to the area and we thoroughly enjoyed everything. We will be back!

Great service and a wonderful original menu. We started with the special of shephards pie wontons with a gravy dipping sauce and continued unto mussels with fries and pig wings! Great drink menu too! Revised: We have now been there several times since then and the service and food quality is very inconsistent.

Don’t be misled by the ratty entrance and proximity to the McArthur Highway(Rt 28). This place has an interesting menu and inspired chef. house made sauces, tantalizing desserts etc etc. great bar selections too.

What a hidden gem! Came here on the way back from the steamship authority. And as they say, it is worth the u turn!!! Cozy tables, clean, homey, excellent service, and reallllly good food and prices! Well the prices for entrees were a little high but we just did a bunch of apps. They bring out warm toasted bread and flavored oil. We had the Mediterranean plate which was a massive portion. Really great hummus and perfectly grilled buttery bread for it. Clam chowder was delicious. Outstanding flavor with full clams on top and bacon and sweet potato. Portion was a little small. It was in a massive bowl but only ¾ full which seemed odd. Also had the baked stuffed clams. They were good with large chunks of clam when I feel like most places just grind it all up and it’s all bread crumbs. A great stop after a long commute from the vineyard!!!

Great first experience! We were a group of six and everyone loved their food — cleaned their plates for that matter, AND purchased desserts! The menu is limited but delectable(one page menus appeal to me, as my meal selection struggles are positively correlated with increased menu length). The parmesan truffle fries were a hit all around, and the designer cocktails are worth a stop in. The staff was pleasant and accommodating of our individual bill request. Though I wasn’t one of the members of my group to order a post dinner sweet, I particularly appreciated the ‘small dessert’ portions that they offered(those with a sweet tooth need not fret, as they also come in ‘shareable’ sizes). Definitely recommend it.

What a superb place. To start though, the location is really awful, and what a surprise to find the spot to get in on the side of the building. But once in, once seated you are to get a marvelous meal. We started with our white wine and Cape Cod beers and I ordered their little neck clam chowder to start off. What a wonderful bowl this was, quite different from anyone else’s. It arrived with a group of clamshells accompanying it in the bowl, and inside each shell was sweet potato and large bacon bits. The clams were so perfectly tender and full of great taste it was a truly unique taste I had. The broth was so full of a solid creamy taste that wasn’t too heavy, there’s nothing more I can say to describe such perfection. No question this was the finest chowder I have ever had. But it was just the beginning. Next up was the smoked chicken breast which was over Gorgonzola mashed potatoes that had a garlic Kale with it and both were just astonishing. The chicken had a sparkling taste that I can only say was unique and just beautiful. It was of the fires in a warm slightly sweet way that I will never forget. The chicken breasts were presented with their rib plate as well making the edges so terribly tender. It was just sterling if it’s fair to say it. The sweetness of the apples was a terribly welcome aspect of the plate. There was no way to add anything to the meal here. Rebecca had the stuffed pork tenderloin that had an amazing walnut and fig stuffing as well as brussel sprouts charred and cut in half. It was stunning also. It worked well that the dessert menu didn’t light anything up for either of us. I suppose it could have been the wish to not cover the wondrous taste we still had from our meals, but this is not a stop to forget. You will not see it from the start, but arriving on the other side is just brilliant.
