First time at The Shrimp Box the food was amazing and the service was exceptional our server Danielle did an amazing job especially considering we had 15 people in our party. I would highly recommend this restaurant and sitting with Danielle.

Yesterday my daughter and I had a pleasurable experience celebrating an early Mothers’ Day at this quaint, rustic seafood restaurant. First we had the great fresh salad buffet which included just about any veggie you could think of. The cocktail I had was just right. The crab stuffed lobster was tender and generous as was baked potato and fresh veggies. It was not too crowded as we timed it as a lunch meal. We sat by the window and took in the lovely view of the boats on the water. The waitress was very helpful and not intrusive. She was prompt and courteous. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience there and plan to return!

Really, really, REALLY puzzled about the previous 4&5 star reviews. Then again, some people think Red Lobster is a good dining experience. Anyway… on to my review. My dad was in town and in the mood for seafood. Based on the reviews, figured I would skip our usual place and checkout the Shrimp Box. Was a Thursday night, about 7:30, not that busy. Seated right away. The décor and atmosphere are sort of diner-ish. Booths along the window overlook a narrow part of the inlet. A nice view, but by no means«magnificent» as a previous reviewer claims. We placed our order, and hit the salad bar. Although rather small, it had a nice assortment of salads and toppings. About 10 minutes after placing our order, a couple walked in and sat at the next table. Our meals were pretty basic and we did not order any apps or soup. But somehow, that couple got their food 5 minutes before us. We had not seen our waiter for like 15 min, so we asked another waiter if she could send him over. A few minutes later he showed up with our food. NOTE: At this time there were maybe 3 or 4 tables in the whole place, so it was not like they were swamped. The food was warm, not hot. I am guessing that it sat in the kitchen waiting for our waiter for a while. My dad ordered broiled salmon, I got the swordfish special. In addition to waiting so long, the waiter announced that they had run out of mashed potatoes(what restaurant runs out of mashed potatoes?) and he had substituted their blue cheese mashed potatoes instead. To be clear, the waiter: 1. Did not bother to tell us they ran out of what we ordered. 2. Decided he knew what substitute we wanted, without asking us. My dad does not like blue cheese, and asked for a baked potato instead… which somehow they had. One would think that if you were in the midst of a mashed potato shortage, and had baked ones, you would scoop out the inside and mash them up. But maybe I am just crazy like that.(yes, I know you usually boil mashed potatoes, but its doable and if it means giving the customer what they ordered then its a win) The portions of fish were rather small. My swordfish did not taste fresh, and I think was probably previously frozen. Both meals were BLAH. Frankly it was on par with diner food. Ironically, the best part of the meal for me was the blue cheese mashed potatoes. Bad service with good food, I can deal with. But blah food and bad service… close the box on that.

Excellent seafood… Wide selection of all types of fish at a great price. Food was excellent and would definitely return… Large dinning area on the docks of Point Pleasant, beautiful views… This place is definitely a winner …

Have been back twice this season — ate outside both times. Service was always good, last two times it was outstanding. Over two meals had scallops(sautéed with spinach), calamari, raw oysters, salads, Manhattan clam chowder — everything was outstanding.

The food is always on par every time we go. The Sunset Special Menu cannot be beaten for what you get: salad bar or soup, entrée, and desert. Server was a little slow tonight but it was packed!

Great food, great location, great service. The view is magnificent. When we went we were seated immediately. It all depends on the time you go. I had the broiled seafood trio and it was so good. Can’t wait to go back!

Had the day off from work on Friday April 15th and drove down with a friend from Exit 153 to give this place a try. I read it’s a top 10 Jersey shore place with a view. When we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess who said a table with a view would be available in about 10 minutes. So we waited. Within 10 minutes were seated by the window overlooking the inlet and harbor. The menu is very elaborate. While they have a lunch section, they over different types of meals that include their salad bar, a drink and dessert. My friend and I got the trio platter of shrimp, flounder and scallops with french fries and veggies. The best part was scallops and the shrimp. I wasn’t crazy about the flounder. I felt like it was missing something. The fries were good. My only suggestion is that they clean and change the vats and oil on a more regular basis. You can tell by the texture of the fries this needs to happen. We both had a sangria and a seltzer. My friend had homemade carrot cake and I had the apple crumb. We both really enjoyed it. I believe our waitress’ name was Joanne. She was really nice and made our first experience there a pleasant one. I would definitely go back to The Shrimp Box.

While The Shrimp Box may not look like much from the outside, it has a wonderful, extensive menu, as well as a fabulous kids’ menu. Yes, it’s a bit«old school» having a salad bar, but that’s part of the charm of coming to a seafood restaurant at the shore. We are locals & find it to be charming, nicely renovated after Sandy, and the deck«outside the box» is great in both beautiful & summer shower weather as all is covered when necessary. Also a nice outdoor bar for a more relaxed, right off the boat vibe. You can dock & come right up or let the kids watch the boats go by. Just a classic seafood joint with great food!

Food is phenomenal. You cannot beat the view on the water. Service was excellent. Seems expensive, but for the amount of food you get with unlimited salad bar, it is well worth it. This is my new favorite spot.

We went here about two weeks ago right after they reopened. This was our first visit. It’s been very talked up so we’ve been wanting to try it. We got there on a Wednesday afternoon and it was packed. We waited for about a half hour to get a table. Service was busy but still very nice. Our food came at a relatively nice pace not too slow. The location is the best thing about this place. Right at point pleasant’s inlet with beautiful views of the boats and the water. You get such a nice down the shore feeling. Unfortunately it was only March so we couldn’t eat outside. The inside is newly renovated so everything is brand new and clean! You can tell they put a lot of work and thought into the renovations. The food was pretty good! It wasn’t the best meal I’ve ever had but also not the worst. I’d definitly come back in the summer for another meal. I got the Cesar salad with calamari and I wish I had gotten salmon instead. It wasn’t bad it was just easier to get sick of the fried food.

Came down on a whim on Labor Day, figured much of the shore traffic would be heading out of town. Patio looked to be at full capacity, so we opted to sit inside & were seated at a booth by the window right away, no wait. First time here, went on recommendations from Unilocal.Food was good, nice size portions for the price. Our server, Alice, was attentive but not pushy. Good spot to have a nice meal overlooking the water.

A lot of food for your money. They’re very understanding and obliging with special dietary needs. Staff works well with high crowds. You can’t help leaving stuffed. Our meals were specials for the evening. They came with an appetizer, meal and dessert.

My husband and I went here for the very 1st time. The parking is a wait in its self, but seem to move pretty while my husband waited in the car for a spot to park I went in for a table we had a 23 min wait. Which seem to move along quickly. Atmosphere was friendly, but once it hit the peak of the dinner hour the noise was unbarable from all those waiting to be seated crowded the bar. Appetizers we had fried calamari with the siracha sauce it was okay some were chewy but for the most part edible. We also had stuffed mushrooms they were good . For our entrée my husband had fried oysters platter which he seemed to enjoy very much! I had the shrimp 4 ways platter so if you like shrimp this is the way to go. I however am very picky and to my family I’m a well renounced food critic. The only shrimp on that platter. I will give a 10 was the coconut shrimp absolutely banging… the rest was mediocre. so for two non drinking couple it cost 83.00 plus tip a little pricey for a not so fine dining. I would give it a try … if your thinking about it. But the reviews are pretty on point here.

So my family has been coming to Shrimp Box for 25+ years for dinners, birthday parties, etc… and we always have the best time. I recently dined there with my family during Memorial Day weekend after a 10 year hiatus, and it completely lived up to my rose-colored childhood memories. The salad bar is as tasty as ever; they have the best Italian dressing. I chose the delicious clams casino as my appetizer, and swapped one for an oyster Rockefeller(also amazing). For my main course, I chose the small 1−¼ lb. lobster, which came with traditional sides of potato + veggies, as well as drawn clarified butter. My lobster was delicious, though I have to admit I loved wearing the lobster bib. The only general complaint I could see people having is the wait times and pokey service. We arrived at 7:15pm for our(opentable! hint!) reservation, and had to wait around 15 – 20 minutes for the table. Our waitress was really nice, but busy, and therefore slightly absentee. Entrees weren’t served together, and I had to ask for lemon for my lobster. But honestly, this is to be expected for summer at the shore. And even the hardest critic could melt while watching the sun slowly dip into the adjacent Manasquan River.
