I went by here earlier this week at lunch time and it was deserted! Uh oh. Since I really liked the people who worked here, especially the lady who I think was the cook owner. I called the number listed here on Unilocal and it was disconnected. Oh man. I wish I had supported this business more, it was really tasty eats, really simple. Carnitas Don Juan, you will be missed.

If I could give a place a zero I would. Considering that I didn’t get a chance to even order I will give them a star. Stupid lady working her this morning just stared at us while we sat in our car by the drive in. We motioned if we should move up or order at the machine and she didn’t respond. We pull up to the window and she began washing dishes. What an idiot! Doesn’t deserve my business.

I’ve been on the search for the best carnitas in Pomona, and so far this takes the pig. They definitely excel at carnitas, so don’t try ordering anything but pork items. They typically put a boat load of meat in the tacos or burrito. The burrito is like a small baby and the street tacos are so stuffed that three make me really full, whereas I’m used to eating like 7 tacos at any other place.

I’ve had this place bookmarked a long while now, don’t get to this part of town that often. Finally made it here and noticed from the«A» shaped building and drive-thru I’ve been here before but obviously was a taco stand under a different name. I approach the window knowing I want Tacos but let me see what meat choices I have pretty nice! So I start ordering Tacos, let me have 1) Lengua — Oh sorry were out of that, OK, let me have 1) Buche bien dorado, Oh NO Buche, Chorizo — sorry NO chorizo today! OK, it’s SATURDAYAFTERNOON what do you have? Carne Asada, Al Pastor, Carnitas, Tripas y Pollo Tacos — *(NO deductions BUT I’m not a fan of the way he chops the onions in such big pieces, I also asked for salsa roja, not sure if they offer different salsas?) *ALL meats are cooked on a flattop grill. Carne Asada — Pretty lean just a bit of fat, meat is not marinated but has some pretty good flavor, the Biggest issue with ALL the tacos was the cheap corn tortillas that were falling apart. 3.5-Stars Al Pastor — Lean marinated pork cooked on a flattop, flavor was just OK. 3-Stars Carnitas — Now this is some beautiful pig! so much flavor, just give me a couple pounds of this and a Caguama of Tecate… #Hijole 5-Stars AVG: 3.83-Stars… Normally this would be rounded UP to(4-Stars) but for the lack of meat selection I’m not going to. FYI: For you Non-Ballerz Unilocal has this place as accepting Credit Cards, but as you can see from the sign in the window CASHONLY…

The best tacos I’ve had since writing this review. Everything is made to order. It is delicious, not only that, you can go there and actually order meat, which they will cook for you, so you can take it home and put it in your own dishes or what have you. It is nice authentic tacos. The first time I went there, I got one of everything. It is fresh, and delicious. The service is friendly, though there is a little wait since it is made to order, but it definitely worth it.

Wish I could give this place 5 starts, but the smell of hobo at the order window, the lack of debt card use and the extremely long wait time will make me avoid this place in the future. The meats were ok, had asada, and carnitas tacos salsa was good but not home made style like expected.

Stopped by to get lunch for the family. The flavor of the food is damn good. The tripas are somewhat salty and the chicken burrito that I ordered had a total if 5 medium-sized sharp bones inside. The al pastor and carnitas are spot on. Take care if you order anything with chicken in it. I’m definitely not going to have items with chicken because of the bones.

Been living in Montclair for four years now, and never thought about coming here once the entire time. Till one day we were dying for some carnitas. Came here on Unilocal, found this spot and tried it out. What the hell were we thinking not coming to this place? You can’t miss it. It’s easily recognizable, because it has a big giant blue roof, and if you’ve been around long enough, you could tell by the design that it must have been a Weinerschnitzel’s at one time. Anyway, short and sweet. $ 5 get a BIG burrito, full of beans, rice, and more importantly, tons of the meat of your choice! You can’t go to a place that has Carnitas in the name and not order the carnitas, so I did, and didn’t regret it. Tender, salty. porky goodness, tasted like they had just came off the pig and out of the cazo. They have tacos too. $ 1 or $ 1.25. $ 25 gets you something like 22 tacos or 3 pounds of pork product, 1 pound each of carnitas, buches and chicharron. If you are into carnitas, just come here and eat. Seriously.

Stopped here to try menudo on a Sunday. Was $ 5 for the bowl and it came with all the side add ons. The menudo was really good!

Got to say that the Carnitas is the best I’ve had hands down. You can taste the cumin in the delicious marinated pork and with their pico de gallo salsa it is especially delicious. They also have habanero salsa available most every time I ask, for an extra kick, but the carnitas stands on its own and can’t be beat. Of course, they serve a selection of other meats and have tacos, burritos, tortas, chicharron, quesadillas and other standard mexican fare. They also have special plates and soups that aren’t on the regular menu, so call ahead to see what else is available. This is a must try! Delicious!

I read some of the reviews that people posted who were complaining about the facilities(or lack thereof) or language barrier and I think, «WTF» is wrong with people?! It’s on Holt Blvd in Pomona… what are you expecting? Everyone wants to find that little whole in the wall that isn’t the most appealing but has the best food at amazing prices. That’s what people seek out all the time. The food network even dedicates programming to find these sorts of hidden gems. I am a Latina who is very very picking about eating out ANY mexican food but I will go here everyday if I wasn’t afraid of getting tired of the food. And for those of you who are diabetics… the tacos with corn tortillas and meat are a great source of protein. Yes, the telecom may not always be answered, so just drive up to the window and make friends with the owner. He is the nicest guy and will always make you feel welcomed. I thank him for taking the gamble at trying a business that has a 89% failure rate. The last thing we need is another abandoned, closed business. You will never leave hungry, you will be satisfied and the bottom line is… the food rocks! I’m so glad(and proud) that it’s in my own backyard. If you’re a snob, pass it up. If you’re a friendly person, reach out to the owner and make a new friend. You will be happy you did.

I love street tacos and the only place I usually get them is @ Whole Foods. On our way home from our pediatrician’s in Yorba Linda, I decided to stop by this place and was so glad to find out that it is a Drive Thru(especially w/young children in carseats)! There was no one @ the opposite end of the telecom and when I drove up and looked in the kitchen it seemed closed? All of a sudden, someone came from the storage room on the other side of the A framed building and apologized for stepping away. He turned out to be the owner and cook(a nice looking young guy) and asked me where I was coming from. I asked him what buche was thinking it was goat. He seemed a little embarrassed and explained that it was stomach and said they only served goat on the weekends. I asked him for some recommendations for my son and he suggested a asada or bean and cheese quesadilla. I asked about the hot sauce and asked if it was hot and he told me it has some heat but really hot, hot sauce is usually made with habenero chilis and they are expensive at the moment. I also needed a lunch for someone that would hold well the next day and he suggested a burrito and would put the non microwaveable items on the side. I ordered 2 sets of al pastor, asada, and carnitas with avocado on mine(since I’m nursing), a cheese quesadilla, and a carnitas burrito. The tacos were perfect! They weren’t too big but were filling. The contents were generous and not greasy and the ingredients are flavorful and fresh. The carnitas was good, no fat and soft and not sweet like some places. The al pastor was a flavorful pan fried meat. I asked if it was made with pineapple juice and he said his was not but was made with spices. My favorite was the asada. The house made sauce on the side was excellent. I tasted my son’s quesadilla which came piping hot and it was good even plain although a little greasy. He said it was made with Monterey Jack cheese. I asked if they had specials and today it was pasole. It was a little more on the expensive side and he explained that it was because it was all meat. Carnitas, chiccharron, and buche are available by the pound($ 7) and there are plates and specialty items on the weekends. The food took awhile because he had to go and prepare it and that answered why he didn’t collect payment up front. It may not be important to some people but I wouldn’t want someone to handle cash before they prepared my food. He was the only one working so it made perfect sense. I would definitely want to come back and see what else he cooks up and get tacos again…

The Food was GOOD. But It is what it is, it is a drive-thru fast food Taco and Burrito place. Taco’s run $ 1.25 and Burritos are $ 5.00. I thought the food was very good, it is what I expect from a $ 5 Mexican burrito, same with the tacos. I would say if you don’t know what a good taco or burrito should taste like, use this place as your starting point.

Tried the Carne Asasa tacos and they were not only fresh but uncommonly tasty. Carnitas were equally tasty. I wish they were a bit more crunchy or deep fried, but they were just as tasty. Located in Pomona, drive thru… think it was a Wienerschnizel before. In anycase, by all means, try it. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Best Asada Burrito I’ve ever had…$ 1.25 Carnitas Taco was filled with meat and tasty good! The location is on old Der Wiernerschnitzel so it’s 2 Stars in atmosphere department, but the food was excellent and the young owner is one of the most friendly people you will ever meat(pun). I was told by a neighboring business owner that I really need to go back and try a quesadilla with carne asada, a little lettuce and sour cream. Burrito was outstanding at $ 5. Filled with tasty Carne Asade and wrapped in the best flour tortilla I’ve ever had.(I should have asked where he gets them. Really good flavor and texture). 5 Stars for the food. I will be back. I didn’t leave hungry!!!

This was a very weird dining experience. I’m not as angry as I am confused and frustrated. They offer a Unilocal Check-In deal for 50% off(limit one person), so I’m assuming this means you can’t buy for other people? Because I came here with my girlfriend and after she ordered for the both of us and asked if she could use the deal the worker was timid and reluctant to acknowledge what it was or even try to reason what was happening. I think the biggest dilemma was the language barrier. I have never ever and never will lower a rating of a small business because they can’t provide service in English, but it was excessively difficult here to accomplish anything. Other than being able to order, we had no idea why we couldn’t use the deal, how or if we would get our food, or when we would pay. In terms of their food — Carnitas Don Jaun offers a decent carnitas burrito. I ordered it with avocado and it was good, but not extraordinary. My girlfriend ordered the carne asada burrito with sour cream and that actually was very good because the steak wasn’t overly dry, it was well seasoned, and the creaminess of the sour cream acted like cool lubricant for my mouth. They give you a choice between red and a surprisingly kick-filled green salsa. My girlfriend and I shared a Diet Coke and I was PRETTY full after finishing my food. I don’t know if it was the carbonation of the soda or maybe the burrito was actually bigger than I thought it was, but I’m a big eater so I was pleasantly surprised. The workers themselves are very nice and I’m sure had I made the effort to speak my rudimentary-level Spanish things would have flowed more smoothly. They bring your food out to you on funny Christmas themed plates and generously provide napkins and salsa at your request. The gentleman working there only charged us $ 6 for everything: $ 5 for each burrito — he didn’t charge us for the extra toppings, and $ 2 for the Diet Coke. This means he was nice enough to give us the 50% off. I don’t mind paying full price and I don’t care that they prefer to speak Spanish, I just wish I took the time to do more research on this place to figure out the dining etiquette. Long story short — I would like to return to try their other food, but I’m either going to force myself to speak Spanish or I’m bringing a friend who can.

I can only describe the smells wafting out of Carnitas Don Juan as heavenly. I was kind of glad it took a few minutes to get my order together so I could just stand outside and breathe in the meaty air. Tacos are $ 1.25 and burritos and tortas are $ 5. I think plates were something like $ 7. Choices include carnitas, chicharron, carne asada, buche and maybe a couple more. Obviously the thing to get are the carnitas. You can also buy by the pound for only $ 7 which I think is a great deal and is cheaper than at Cardenas market across the street. I personally like my carnitas crispy, so I was glad that they were crisped up around the edges. On the weekends they have lengua, cabeza and menudo as well. I can’t wait to come back and I am definitely getting the torta next time.

Michael W. took Vince V. and I on a super mini taco tour and this was our first stop. I’m a huge carnitas connoisseur so I was excited to try a place called Carnitas Don Juan. We tried the carnitas(obviously) and barbacoa taco and they were very tasty. The corn tortillas were definitely homemade and toasted to perfection, very corny! The carnitas was tender, flavorful and super moist, which was fantastic. However, the carnitas clearly wasn’t deep-fried, no crunch, no crisp, and a bit sad. The barbacoa on the other hand, had a delightful smokey flavor and was nicely seasoned. Tacos as a whole were big and filling, but salsas made them too wet; they’re also served with a huge lemon wedge, not lime. Overall, the tacos were pretty good despite my slight disappointment and for $ 1.25 for each taco, it beats Taco Del Rio and Boca Del Rio any day. 3.86 stars.

If you are from Michoacan, Mexico you can be considered an expert on carnitas. If you know anything about carnitas, you know they are from Michoacan. I have been there and my parents are from there, so it can be said that I KNOW carnitas. There are three carnitas meccas in Michoacan — Uruapan, Quiroga and Zinapecuaro. I have been to all three. So, do I KNOW carnitas? YES!!! First off — CARNITASARESOFTANDJUICY-YETDRY not crispy NEVER, NEVER, NEVERCRISPY. Crispy carnitas might be appreciated by Texans and La Vernians(jaja) but not by people who know what carnitas are really supposed to be like ;) Crispy carnitas tend to be anything but fresh as they are heat lamped carnitas for the most part. Carnitas Don Juan has really, really ridiculously very, very flavorful carnitas! They have the flavor down pat! Impressive! However, they tend to be slightly crispy. This is why I have taken one star from the score. Crispy carnitas are blasphemous!!! I also had a chicharron taco which was really, really ridiculously good! I didn’t finish it because it was really spicy. I don’t do spicy. It was soooo good I almost considered finishing it though. Chicharron tacos are an art form. It’s easy to overcook them and make them flavorless, but the chicharron tacos here are great! The owner of Carnitas Don Juan is a cool hardworking Zacatecano. He really serves great portions in the tacos. The poor tortilla just can’t handle so much meat so he gives you a fork. All this for only $ 1.25! Wow!!! Thank you Michael W. for letting me know about this gem of a taco place! Parking is a breeze! They have a drive through! They only have outdoor seating. They are sooo Mexican they serve two kinds of Squirt soda! Too bad this place is in the periphery of civilization though haha! If you live in this part of town this place is a must!!!
