Hands down the best Barbacoa Ive had in a while.(Aside from my mother in laws) great flavor! They say don’t judge a book by its cover, with that said… the Interior needs a makeover ASAP! I would recommend this place to try out if you are craving barbacoa.

So I keep coming here and keep getting blown away. I’ve tried the other holes in the wall in the area and in LA and elsewhere. These guys make the best carne asada tacos anywhere. The best salsa anywhere. Apparently people come from out of town to buy buckets of salsa to freeze. The burritos are also excellent, but hard to compare because they have a unique, homemade touch. If you get your antojitos near here, break out of your routine because YOUNEEDTOBEGETTINGTHEMHERE.

Villa Toros is my fave spot for street tacos in Pomona, which is the city where I reside at. Taco places are a dime a dozen around here since it’s a highly populated Hispanic area. This location might be easy to miss if you’re driving by on Holt, so keep an eye out for a blue looking shack/cabin restaurant. Parking is very limited here with only 3 spaces in the front and 5 – 6 more spots in the back. Street parking is also available. I’m a fan of their asada and al pastor. They’re both well marinated and delicious. I usually just order tacos or an all meat burrito. The red hot sauce here is very similar to King Taco but not as spicy. This place is usually a ghost town but serves great tasting Mexican food. Everyone has their own taste buds when it comes to tacos/burritos, whether it’s Alberto’s, King Taco, Tacos Mexico, etc but I prefer Villa Toros cause it’s bomb, local and has no wait. Yeee!

Do NOT eat Breakfast here. The beans were sour and old, the eggs were undercooked and the pancakes were raw. You WILL have the worst breakfast you EVER had at this place. It’s a true hole-in-the-wall. We had to order a couple of $ 1 tacos because we couldn’t eat the food that was served to us. The tacos were OK. The ONLY upside was that the server/cook/cashier was very nice and tried hard to give us a good experience. Disappointed because I LOVE dives like this.

Home made beans. Corn tortillas made right in front. Fresh ingredients. Eggs cooked perfectly. You would think, sounds five star. Nope, sorry to say. First, no beer or coffee. Second, no beer or coffee. Third, well you know. Parking in rear. Friendly staff. Courteous service. Traditional Mexican food is the plus to this establishment. Four star service. Three star food. Two star everything else. Zero stars for no coffee with breakfast!

Came here for barbacoa tacos. This place was easy to miss when we were driving down the street. Definitely a «hole in the wall» type restaurant with a menu that was only in Spanish. Luckily, the person behind the counter was fairly young and spoke English. Even though it’s not on the menu, the cashier let us buy one pound of barbacoa for $ 14.99 and even threw in a small consome soup(for free!). However, when we got home, we realized she didn’t include any homemade tortillas. The sauce that they include in the meal is delicious!

BEST«barbacoa» tacos that I have tried in US. I have lived in mexico city, and their«barbacoa» tacos taste the same as in Mexico. Their Consome is also very very good! AWSOME tortas! and other dishes. They have 1.99 burritos mon-thrs. THEBEST burrito for the price.

I went here because my car was at the radiator shop next door. Wasn’t there too long because. it was in Pomona. And they started to have a more sketchy crowd come in. Besides the atmosphere, their carnitas were a 7⁄10.

I love this place. I have been going there since I was a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona. Which is over 10 years ago… sad…anyways. I have no need to ever be back in Pomona, but whenever I am remotely close, ie Diamond bar or brea, and I have time, I’ll drive up the 57 a bit farther to get my hands on their Torta Cubana. Its amazing. Its always made fresh. When people say they want«hole in the wall» Mexican food. this place is it. The whole menu is in spanish! but dont worry and the employee/owner are always nice as can be and are very friendly and helpful. I cant wait to go back and eat one again.

The Juciest, flavorfull, fat, satisfying $ 2 burrito i’ve ever had! The tortas are AMAZING! you can’t go wrong with a fat and juicy chile jalapeño con cebollitas and zanahoria on the side! It may not be physically appealling but it sure is tasty and satisfying! The owner is polite and you can see when he cooks. i like that :)

I have been passing Villa Toros since teenage Unilocalers were in short pants complaining about having to go to Sunday school – twelve years. Every time I cruised down Holt between Cal Poly and some other destination, I sawr it with its memorable little sign and its affable name and its tiny parking lot. One time, a fellow name of Jose who advocated El Patio indicated that Villa Toros wasn’t all that great. So that probably delayed my arrival by about 3 years. Inside, it is a standard taqueria(though they specialize in barbacoa as well). You walk up and order at the counter, no table service. No frills, menu plastered up on the wall. It is enjoyable to peruse, lots of choices, including some I am’nt familiar with, such as banderillas(apparently Mexican corn dogs according to the webs), suadero(reading about this made me want to try it), and consome de barbacoa(a soup that sounds tasty, may go try it). The meats for tacos include: pollo, carne asada, al pastor, buche, cabeza, suadero, lengua. For tortas, jamon, milanesa, bistec picado, and pierna al horno. For burritos, also bistec picado and carnitas. Tacos are a buck, burritos and tortas are just under 4 bucks. An all meat burrito runs close to 7, while rice and bean burritos are 2. Sopes are 1.35. Platos de carne con arroz, frijoles, and tortillas are 8. Orders of barbacoa, Fridays and weekends only, are 8, while it can also be ordered by the pound. I ordered two tacos, one carne asada and one al pastor. Both get a C+. The texture of the beef was not great, but the flavor was there. The texture on the pork was fine, but the flavor lacked. They make their own al pastor, I saw the spit. I also ordered a carnitas burrito. It was a big boy. The carnitas was very tasty – moist, flavorful, rich, tender, a little salty, surrounded by rice and beans in your extra large tortilla. The salsa taquera is deep red, thick and smooth, smoky with a pretty serious kick. I dug it. A return visit may be in order, but there is no rush on that. If I do go back sooner than later, it will probably be for breakfast. An array of classic plates(huevos rancheros, a la mexicana) and breakfast tortas and the like is available.
