Stopped in here on a whim and we are so glad we did. We brought our two daughters(ages 3 and 4) and were greeted warmly by our server, authentic Calabrese Italian. The restaurant was empty, completely empty. At first we thought we made a mistake, but our minds were changed quickly. We started with a bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, deelish. The chef, Daniele, came out to greet us and ask us about any likes/dislikes and dietary concerns. He asked what we liked and prepared a dish for us based on that. We ordered the beef carpaccio as an appetizer. Let me just say this: the details that went into that carpaccio were amazing. Daniele prepared a balsamic/honey reduction that glazed the antipati that accompanied the carpaccio. It just melted in our mouths and we were literally licking the plate. The second course was even better. Daniele prepared a cavatelli dish for me with pancetta, peas and broccoli rabe. My partner had a fettucini with cremini mushroom and white wine reduction. Oh my gawd… The kids had a simple dish of pasta and butter with fresh parmagiano which they devoured with the homemade bread with that same balsamic reduction. The little one lifted her plate to lick the butter/cheese. Daniele and the server sat with us, talked with us, spoke of our families, our lifestyles, etc. It was like dinner with our family/friends. Daniele made a homemade ricotta cheesecake which he served us for dessert-free of charge-surrounded by delicious berries and a raspberry reduction. He also sat with us to enjoy an apéritif after dinner while we talked more. All this being said, the food was the best we’ve had since moving from San Francisco-the foodie capital. The ambiance was great even though we were the only group in the restaurant. Dinner took 3 hours to eat, so if you’re in a hurry, don’t go :) Daniele gave us his personal cell phone number and told us to call the night before we go again so he can prepare us whatever we request. Who does that? We LOVED this restaurant and can’t wait to get back-maybe without the kids this time! However, they loved it too and were treated like family run, don’t walk
