I am a bartender at tiffs in pequannock and at greenhouse In Wayne. After our shift we are always looking for a bar to go get a drink and talk about our night. Knowing thatchers closes at 3 several times we have gone to the thatchers in pompton lakes… I can’t believe how disappointed I am at the attitude of the bouncers and bartenders… being in the bar industry I understand that everyone has to be out by a certain time… but turning the lights on, music off and tvs off at 2:30 and instantly and constantly yelling to get out instead of «last call» allowing everyone to get another round of shots or a beer is completely unprofessional… knowing how competitive the bar industry is in the area with Blu and mothers taking a ton of our business you would think you would try to keep as many customers as possible… I just wanna let you know that my 10 friends and I will never be stepping foot in your door after our shift or at any time again as we will now be going to Blu, jiggs or another local joint for our few drinks and shots from now on… it may only be 10 of us but you should drastically consider some changes in your staff and attitude as you have just lost some customers Sent from my iPhone

Stopped in for lunch with a small group, they quickly seated us and before we knew it we were eating appetizers. I chose the Asian steak salad along with a Samuel Adams Cold Snap beer and was not disappointed. For the Irish Pub experience it doesn’t get any better.

Food always great, so many things to choose from on the menu. The soups are great and the salads are big and fills you up well. The cornbeef is lean and great. Service is a little slow but not too bad. Place is clean. Get the sliders !!

This was our first time dining here, and I have to say it was a delight. Elba was our server, and she was nothing short of spectacular. Refills with out having to be asked, and a warm friendly smile. The Pastrami is some of the best we have ever had. So lean and juicy. Their house mustard was also delicious. My friend ordered the Philly Cheese, and he enjoyed it, but wished that it came on better bread. Reasonably priced, great service, clean, and a good atmosphere for dining. Would come again.

I just had the«best of land and sea app» in two words — salad shrimp, really are you kidding that is the worst of the sea ?? Terrible — small portion, drowned in an overly salty sauce. And It was one of the most expensive apps — this is a good restaurant– they need to take this off the menus and revamp it

I love the atmosphere at this bar restaurant. They sometimes have a live band playing(garage bands of course) and an amazing staff that helps customers choose on what to drink or eat. I have only been to this bar once and had a few drinks with my sister and everything was perfect. The bartender was sweet and knowledgeable on the place, area and menu.

My wife and I come here for Happy Hour from time to time. it’s usually a packed bar, and it gets full early(4pmish). So, even if the parking lot looks empty, don’t get your hope’s up for a seat at the bar lol. Friday HH’s seem to be really crowded and the crowd is very mixed — young and old. I don’t usually go right into Con’s with my reviews, but I have a huge Pet Peeve when it comes to bartending(and I was a bartender for years, and this was literally beat into my head) Last night’s bartender(on December 29th, we were there about 4:45), an older lady with a thick Irish accept was tending bar. WHYOHWHY do you use PINTGLASS to scoop the ice out of the ice bin??? And then, she used a WINEGLASS to scoop the ice out of the ice bin??? Do you not know that those glasses will chip and leave glass fragments in the ice bin? And the Wine Glass just really took me for a loop.. Those glasses are paper thin and will chip or break so easily in the bin. Where is your medal scooper or tin? This is bartending 101 people. The bad thing is I’ve seen other bartenders do this as well here(just not with the wine glass. Last night was the first time I’ve seen that). If one of those glasses chip and/or break and someone swallows that, you’re gonna get hit with a huge lawsuit… As a bartender, you’re main job is keeping your customers safe. Whether that be not over-serving them or feeding them glass in their drinks. I really REALLY hope someone there reads this that works there and and makes it a point to stop this practice. Now, why do I give it four stars after that? Well, for lots of reasons. The atmosphere is awesome, the beer is cold, the well drinks are yummy and you get a nice pour for a glass of wine. They have free food at HH, which is pretty good and most of the time, they walk around handing out a variety of finger sandwiches. That’s what it’s all about. Going the extra mile for your customers. Their food is also very good. My wife and I have ate there a few times, and never are we disappointed. I’ve seen the helping of their fish and chips and I can’t wait to dive into that plate of heaven! lol. Bottom line… This a great place. Highly recommended!!! Just please, for the love of Pete, pass the word about using glass items to scoop out the ice. I sure don’t want to swallow a piece of glass, and I bet nobody else does either…

Delicious food, great local place for drinks and apps. Definitely the Thatch Fries are a must-have!

I’ve only been here for lunch. Never for happy hour or a meal in the evening. Let me just start off by saying the food is pretty darn good. And when I have tough days at work, I’ll have a pint of Guinness with my lunch. The bartenders always pour Guinness correctly. So for food and drinks, I’ll be happy to give a 5 star rating. The only issue I have with this location is the hostess. An older lady(in her 50s or 60s) who doesn’t seem like she enjoys her position at the establishment. I usually go alone or with a coworker for lunch. When we have a lot of time to eat, we would like to be comfortable and ask for a table so we can lean onto a chair and rest our backs. For some reason, she always suggest we sit at the bar. As a paying customer, I believe I have the right to request to be seated where I feel most comfortable. There are days where I just want to slump back and relax while I eat. While other days, I want to be done eating in 15 minutes, so I grab a seat at the bar. Is that accommodation too much to ask for? It’s one thing if the restaurant was extremely busy and real estate is hard to come by. But for the most part, when I take my lunch at 2pm, the restaurant is at 20% capacity on a good day. Aside from the older hostess, everyone is a pleasure to work with. The waitstaff is very nice and friendly. Overall, I would say 3.5 stars. If I were treated differently at the door, I would say this is a solid 4.5 star establishment.

This place is like our Cheers being locals for almost 10 years. Almost everyone who works here is Irish and lovely. The food is great… From their Irish Fare to the regular bar food. The corn beef and cabbage is amazeballs!!! My husband loves their French onion soup and buffalo chicken wrap and our daughter loves their chicken tenders… so there is something for the whole family! It’s a great place to go for dinner but I suggest heading out to an early dinner if your bringing the little ones as this place can get packed and loud with a regular bar crowd most nights. The nights I’ve headed there either sans kid, sans husband, or both, I’ve always had a great time. The bartenders remember the regulars which is always nice. They hook you up with a free shot or drink after a while of hanging out and ordering drinks, food, what have you… which is awesome! I definitely recommend this place just wish they had more craft beers and wish Chris was still bartending there as he was by far the Best Bartender!!! I hear he is running their Denville location so good for him but he is truly missed along with some craft beers!

Sexist, discriminatory dress code allows sleeveless and damn near topless women but no sleeveless shirts for guys. Sorry, not wearing a button down for a beer in a dump in pompton lakes.

I’m going to be brutal. And honest. This place is like a bar rerun of highschool. I hate coming here. The people who end up here are always the worst of the worst. HOWEVER, can’t go wrong with a Guiness and the food is always great, which is a shame because the place sucks as a local hang out bar. Always ended up coming here because there is easy parking. Sit in a booth and avoid the bar.

My husband and I enjoy happy hour here very much. Complimentary snacks and sandwiches are very nice. The potato pancakes were excellent. We both wish they had live music like the Denville location does during happy hour but overall the restaurant is lively and fun. Nice bartenders too!

Can’t believe I have lived a town over and never tried this place! Comfort food is all over their menu. We started off with the corned beef egg rolls which were very good and came with a very spicy mustard. Wayyyy too hot for me. Would clear out someone’s sinus’s instantly! Next I opted for the fish and chips. Huge portion, not too greasy and not too much breading. Staff was friendly and helpful. Restaurant was busy and clean. Will be back to try some other menu items.

Great spot. 1) I will recommend getting the Taste of Ireland. You get Irish bangers with sautéed onions, Guinness beef stew, chicken pot pie, Irish lamb stew, shepherd’s pie, mashed potatoes & a piece of buttered Irish soda bread. 2) This place gets very busy. 3) the service is good and the price is reasonable.

Many taps, but little to offer as far as craft beers go. The beer selection was a huge disappointment. The Bangers and Mash were actually pretty good. The wings on the other hand were a huge disappointment, overcooked with a sauce that was no better than supermarket wing sauce. I was especially disappointed by the buffalo chicken wrap. I’ve had some very good ones in other pubs, but here it was limp chicken served with a scant wing sauce. The best buffalo wraps have crispy, tender chicken and a generous helping of blue cheese and, but the latter is either not a part of the buffalo wrap here, or the cook forgot it. We were seated at the bar, where you’d think service might be a bit quicker, but it was a long time between visits from the bartender. He seemed more interested in chatting with some attractive women at the other end of the bar than serving anyone else. We sat there close to 10 minutes before his first visit to take our drink order. He gave us a menu, but it was another 10 minutes before he came by to take our order Our glasses sat empty for way too long and when it was time to check out I had to walk to the other side of the bar to get his attention.

Thatcher McGhee Irish Pub and Eatery has a cool Irish name, and does a good job at its game. The place was crowded last Saturday evening. The barroom was noisy, and the dining room next door was busy, but not filled to capacity. We were seated within minutes after a large party left. The service was friendly and efficient. The menu is diverse with most of the usual suspects, plus ethnic offerings to appeal to the Corn Beef and Cabbage folks. We were there for dinner and did not drink any brew. I found the food to be decent(French Onion Soup) a solid beefy stock with a load of soft onions and gooey cheese on top. My 4 Slider app came was my entry. They were okay, with sautéed Onions and Pickles within, but ranged from medium to well done. The French Fries were the frozen extra crispy type that have that coating put on at the factory to add crunch. I am not a fan of that approach to fries as it adds calories and taste unnatural. Others seem to like them. As an older Irish Pub-esque place it does a decent job and appears to have a strong following. While the food is adequate, it is not good enough to be a draw for me unless someone wants to go there. They should consider shortening their name to simply, «Thatcher McGhee’s.»

A group of us came here on a Friday night with intentions of sitting in the bar area to have a drink and get some appetizers. Since there were 7 of us we realized we would be more comfortable in the dining area– no biggie(or so you would think). When I went to the hostess stand to seat us, she was so adamant that our entire party had to be there before she could seat any of us and those are the«very strict rules her boss has her follow». I felt like I was being reprimanded. It would be one thing if the place was packed but the dining room was completely empty! One of our friends wasn’t going to be there for another 15 minutes or so and she said she couldn’t promise there would be room for her when she got there and that we would have to give up our extra chair– so bizarre. We probably would have taken our business elsewhere because of this but we had somewhere to be so we decided to stay. Our server was very nice and the food was good so our experience did get better once we were seated but I can see them losing business from their strict seating rules. Perhaps they should tell their hostesses to be a bit more welcoming.

The hostess who seats you by the dining area is rude as hell. I approached her to ask for a table and she blatantly ignored me while she chatted with a staff member. When I finally interrupted them to ask for a table she told me that I couldn’t be seated until my friend arrived and that that was the reason why she didn’t greet me. Again, rude as hell. With that said, our actual waiter was very nice. On to the food — I ordered the corned beef and cabbage. It looked like it was cooked to perfection but for some reason they use some sort of spice like allspice or nutmeg and it really killed the whole dish. I ordered a turkey club instead, which was very good.(They took the meal off of the bill). The fries are the thick coated super fried crispy kind and they were delicious. I’d come back again to try another dish. The atmosphere is nice too.

I have eaten here a couple times over the past few years when visiting family. And although, they love this place, I am never impressed, actually quite the opposite, I am usually disappointed. Come here knowing you are going to get heavy, greasy, fatty food. The last time I was here, I ordered the fish n’chips. I know, what did I expect, right? I was told the batter was light and they were well worth the Calories, so I decided to indulge. I was extremely disappointed once again. The batter was extremely soggy and it was no where near light. The fries were fries, although they looked triple fried. My cousin’s son ordered the steak meal and the poor 10 year old could barely chew it. I tried a piece and it had the consistency of rubber. The server was nice and replaced his meal with the filet mignon sliders which were a bit better. I ended up ordering a caesar salad as I could not eat the fish n’chips. The salad was decent. Next time my family suggests this restaurant, I’ll stick to the caesar only. Although server was nice, service was meh. I finished my iced tea about half way through the meal and never received a refill.
