Good food but the manager seating people is unpleasant. He tries to be nice but seems to have some anger issues. We overheard him chastising his employees when we walked in on a busy night. We thought we’d try the place again and yet again he was rude to and asked us to move tables despite the place not even being remotely packed. I’d go here again but stay clear of the manager as he seems to have some issues. Besides that the food is good, scenery is spectacular and the waitstaff is on top of it.

I used to love this place but hadn’t been in about a year. Went last night and the service was awful, food was ok. Don’t think I’ll be back.

Wow! Small and unpretentious but the food is outstanding! The crab cakes are amazing and the meatloaf tastes like mom made it. Fresh veggies. Soft rolls. Wonderful!

Place is a whole in the wall. Has not been remodeled in 25 years. The food has declined in quality. My crab cake was burnt, the green beans tasted like swamp water and there was a bug in my ice tea. The ice machine is kept outdoors and they bring ice inside by the 5 gallon bucket. On departure we peeked into the kitchen it was filthy and stunk like garbage. Will not eat here ever again.

Wow, was so disappointed! The view is great, and fun for kids to see boats go by. But food was much worse than I remember. The vegetables cooked or casserole were nothing special. I had the squash casserole and it terrible. Safe with green beans or slaw. I had crab cakes. If you are going to charge high prices the cakes should be perfect, as good as you get in Maryland. These were just okay, I remember years ago when they were great. Best thing at this restaurant is the bread basket. Seems to have lost its luster.

Shrimp & grits were delicious. Nice relaxing place with a view. The staff was very friendly. It was our first time there & walked us through the entire menu. If your on roscoe rd. You won’t miss it!

Just a great find in Ponte Vedra. The Jack’s sampler meal is worth it and the sides are all on point. Did I mention the relaxing patio. The chocolate stuff is just off the chain. Darn, I almost forgot to tell you about the pumpkin bread. Shrimp, salmon, she crab soup all were on point!

Great place away from the craziness of life! Back along the intercostal is this lovely little eatery. Don’t let the gravel parking lot fool you, this place is top notch. Good quality is great and service is spot on. You start with a basket of breads. Pumpkin, Jalapeño cornbread and wheat yeast rolls. I love bread and this combo was bombdiggity. I ordered the three fish combo(crab cake, choice of shrimp(batter fried or coconut) and fried fish filet. It comes with two«veggies» and the bread above. I ordered macaroni(veggie of the day) and coleslaw. Everything was AWESOME! They have top rated crab cakes according to a sign on the way in and they aren’t kidding. The fish portion was very generous and good quality — batter not too heavy and fish was light and flakey. The coconut shrimp were perfect, too. A great tropical sauce matched the flavor and hit the spot well. Really a generous portion of food all around. We asked for more pumpkin bread instead of ordering dessert — good decision as we were full! We sat on the outdoor patio even though it was raining — there was enough overhang to keep us dry. It was so peaceful listening to the rain and watching boats go in and out of the waterway. I highly recommend this gem!

Great little gem! Nice combo of southern style cuisine with solid seafood options. Starter bread basket was impressive… Something for everyone! Try the chocolate stuff for desert:)

We had dinner here Monday evening. It was actually quite crowded for a Monday, but the service was still good. I had the shrimp and grits, which was delicious. This is one of my favorite dishes, so I am a bit picky about the grits to shrimp and garnish ratio, and it was one of the better dishes I’ve had. My kids ordered the chicken finger plate, and those were the biggest chicken fingers I have ever seen! They said the seasoning was very good and not too spicy or salty. Two tweens could have easily split one meal. My friends had the buffalo shrimp and meatloaf dinners. The meatloaf was with a tomato sauce, which I snuck a bite of, and it was good. One of the best things about this place is that it is on the water. The kids really enjoyed feeding their leftover bread to the fish. Not that there was much leftover bread, because even that was yummy. I do love seeing corn bread in a bread basket! The staff here is very friendly, and overall the food is good. It’s a good down home type place, where you can also order a bottle of wine if you like. We would definitely return!

Unbelievable she crab soup! My husband and I did not have time for more than a cup, but we still were brought a full basket of homemade pumpkin and jalapeño cornbread and a delicious roll. The waitress was courteous, prompt, and friendly. Looking out from the outside deck was a joy in itself as a manatee and mullet were spotted in this lovely setting.

Yum. Had great food – buttermilk fried shrimp and a crab cake with red beans and rice and the white cheddar grits. All was good but I especially liked the sides. I’m not a local so I really appreciated the southern flair of Barbara Jeans. We sat outside, literally on the water, looked over the edge at the fish and have them bites of the complimentary bread basket –jalapeño corn bread, pumpkin bread, dinner rolls. Service was only a 2.5-‘slow and a few of our plates were mixed up.

The crab cakes here are amazing, along with the shrimp fritters and she crab soup! We have been going to Barbara Jean’s for more than 5 years and are never disappointed with the food or service. This is also an excellent place to go with our friends who dislike seafood because their homemade dishes, like meatloaf and pot roast, are also delicious! When the weather is nice, we love sitting outside and enjoying the view of the intracoastal while we eat :0)

Good ahi tuna(seared) on house salad. That’s my usual order. Large salad is huge but hey it’s just mostly lettuce so it’s low calorie. Big cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cheddar cheese also. I always get no croutons. Complimentary Bread basket is a dieter’s nightmare, with pumpkin bread, cornbread(my weakness) and big soft rolls. If I feel in an unhealthy mood, I get their chicken caeser salad. It’s delicious, but grilled chicken is greasy(in a tasty way) and well caeser dressing is the most unhealthy salad dressing but delicious. I always ask for the dressing on the side(which they sometimes forget) to make it healthier. Didn’t like the basil vinegrette(it was very watery tasting). Love their green beans, and buttery corn. Spinach had a weird taste I couldn’t quite pinpoint. I noticed the waitress didn’t share with us the specials after hearing her tell another table.

WOW, Simply Impressed. Wife and I headed over for a late lunch on Valentines Day after hearing about a few items they have on their menu and Yes, It was Good! Drink choice was Ice Tea and it was top notch. Bread basket was served with Rolls, Pumpkin Bread and Corn Bread and simply put it was very tasteful. Main course was Meat Loaf with Squash Casserole and Broccoli and Rice Casserole and I chose the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Kernal Corn, Not disappointed at all. It was GOOD! We also ordered the Crab Cake and The Key Lime pie which was out of this world good. We arrived around 1:45 and was immediately seated on the deck as we requested. Service was Good and it was a Perfect Afternoon with Good Food and a To Go box as well. Will definitely return again as this was a Super positive experience. Great Job Barbara Jean’s. Pretty good seafood. Not the best I’ve ever had, but pretty good. Pumpkin bread and jalapeño cornbread were positively scrumptious. Coconut shrimp + marmalade was a surprisingly delicious combination. Fried cod was spot on and piping hot. Crab cake was not the best I’ve ever had(could have been more flavorful and moist), but certainly acceptable. Generous portions. Reasonable price for the location. GREAT view of the intracoastal. Patio seems like an amazing place to eat when it’s not raining. Overall, a solid option. We’ll definitely be back.

Was looking for any kind of seafood on the ICW, and my friend suggested this place. What I didn’t know was that this place specializes in «real» crab cakes, which happen to be my favorite food! Immediately upon walking in, you get the impression that this is a «local» place and not too touristy. Sat out in the rear deck which was still sunny and blazing at 6:45 this July evening. The only upside us that you can keep an eye on the kids who delight in feeding the catfish from the deck. A couple of FL craft brews on tap in the $ 4 range. Started with some shrimp fritters, which were as good as any conch fritters I’ve ever had. Being a native Marylander, I am always suspicious of restaurants outside of DelMarVa who tout their crab cakes. Fortunately, my fears were not justified. Had the large crab cake on a green salad which was perfect and just how we make them in our family… almost zero bread or filler… yum!

I wasn’t impressed by the food. I ordered an Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer is a beverage consisting of iced tea and lemonade, named after American golfer Arnold Palmer: he was in the habit of drinking iced tea with lemonade at home, and in 1960 at the U.S. Open at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, he ordered the non-alcoholic drink at the bar. The waitress asked if I wanted sweet tea & I said yes. She brought me an unsweet Arnold Palmer & I had to add Splenda. If I have to add a sweetener to tea, your preparer cannot make sweet tea. Period. I ordered the $ 25 Coastal Platter * Crab Cake, coconut or buttermilk battered fried shrimp, and fried fish fillet. I love seafood, especially fish. The fish is fried in a batter that produces a very crispy crust(reminded me of a box of Gorton’s). It comes w/2 sides. I wanted fries & a side salad. The waitress told me the salad counts as two sides. When she brought it to the table I realized why, it’s 2 servings. The salad was the bag stuff, which I don’t mind as long as you give me a fresh bag. My salad was OK/average. Thumbs up for the fresh pumpkin bread it was tasty, the view of boats passing by, as this place sits on the Intercostal, & the very friendly & pleasant waitress. But I will not return I really did not enjoy my food. I ate it because it cost my Father $ 25.
