No. No, no no no no don’t do it. Dive bar to me means a neighborhood place, run down but usually full of locals, a simple drink selection running toward well drinks and beer, and no-frills food. Straight-forward and unpretentious. I like dive bars. I’ve been in many. But what dive bars don’t do is take my money and lie to me. If I’m paying for a Captain and Coke, and I did, what comes pouring out of the Captain Morgan bottle had best be Captain Morgan. Not some kind of bottom shelf rum with something vaguely cinnamon-y added to it. My husband’s Budweiser, which we didn’t see poured, didn’t taste like Budweiser either. There were pitchers of beer by the beer taps, maybe it came from one of those. But believe me, we’ve both been around awhile, we both know our usual drinks, and these weren’t it. Congratulations on being the nastiest bar experience of my life. Still shuddering a week later.

This is not a dive bar, it’s disgusting hole. Had a beer and left. Some women came in to ask about food. Bartender explains the don’t have much in the way of food so they leave. As they do, the bartender old men at the bar comment that they have something for them to eat. Stay away.

Don’t expect a lot from this place. But if you want the straight-forward beer, pool, old jukebox then go for it! We enjoyed ourselves here and everyone was friendly and talkative. Despite the dark and dingy interior I felt a lot more comfortable here than I did at Bar N9NE because of the lack of pretension and b.s. This is definitely a dive bar and it was awesome.

Zak’s is a dark & dingy old dive bar near the waterfront in downtown Port Angeles– awesome! I haven’t tried the food here, yet, but the drinks are strong & cheap. Great place!
