We ate here last night, and I have mixed feelings about it. The atmosphere is cool, and it definitely is a unique place. However, I have a few issues that kept me from giving them a better review. Food: I ordered the Big Bacon burger, and I was not impressed. Anything that has bacon in the name should come with more than one slice of bacon(which is a dollar more than the normal big burger, so I paid a dollar for one slice of bacon). Add to that, we got my son the kids sliders, and his burgers were nearly the same size as my «Big» burger. That being said, it was a well seasoned and cooked burger but definitely wasn’t anything special. Service: the waitress was very polite, however she seemed a bit overloaded being the only waitress serving all the tables, do drinks ran empty several times. Overall, the food was decent but it’s hard to justify paying a slightly higj price for something that isn’t much better than anywhere else.

Worst service in the area. With the prices they charge the service should be great. Long wait while dining in, waited an hour at lunchtime and had to leave before my food was ready. 2nd visit –Rude kitchen and wait staff when asked to use gloves instead of bare hands while picking out food from a dish they prepared incorrectly. Never got credit on my card for the refund on this same horrible meal.

Tried their humbo. Grew up in Mobile. Basically it sucks your roux is all wrong tastes burnt. There is nothing but a few great tasting shrimp you through in after the fact. On a scale of 1 – 10 you get a two. Learn how to cook

Really enjoy their food, I do tend to get the same items though, boiled shrimp, shrimp tacos, shrimp salad. I enjoy the food I get, however the service is horrible. I suggest ordering to go and make sure you check your food before you leave. They tend to get overwhelmed at times and switch orders around. I would go more often if they were a little bit more worried about time. Update: As of March 2015, they are trying full service. I haven’t decided if I like it yet. I enjoy paying when I order and leaving when I’m through. You now have to wait for the staff to come take your payment after you eat, and it’s taken awhile. Food is still as good as ever, wish they were a bit cheaper though. I think they would get more customers. However, I don’t mind paying for good food!

This was our first visit to Bayou Café, and it will not be our last. Just looking at the Facebook pictures of their food was enough to make my husband and I hungry. We were greeted by a very happy and enthusiastic counter girl. She told us how great the food was, and how the entries were served. She also told us they didn’t have and boudin balls. Darn. I wanted to try those. She gave us a menu and said we could sit anywhere. Looking at the menu, I picked several things, and settled on the Ibiza Shrimp Tacos and a banana pudding. Hubby picked a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo and the grilled shrimp, served over rice. We ordered at the counter. And the girl at the register suggested she being the pudding our after the meal, so it wouldn’t melt. Good idea. We got our glasses, and got our self-service drinks. Our food came in about 5 minutes. Hubby’s gumbo was a generous, full cup. The chicken was shredded, but not so finely it was threads. The sausage was in small chunks. Rice in the bottom of the bowl, but not too much. The rioux was a nice bark color, and the gumbo was not too thick or too spicy, but it did have a good kick on the back end. His 8 grilled jumbo shrimp were extremely fresh and well spiced. He added some of the rice to his gumbo. He as very happy and full at the end of the meal. My tacos were sublime. Five spicy, crisp, perfectly grilled jumbo shrimp in each taco, with fresh cabbage, tomatoes, cheese, and spicy mayo, wrapped in the best, fresh, buttery, flaky, flour tortilla. I haven’t had a tortilla like that since I lived in Austin. So good. We were too stuffed to eat the banana pudding, so we took it to go. I put it in the refrigerator overnight, and ate it for breakfast today. OMG! Good bananas, nice whipped cream, but the pudding! Thick, rich, vanilla, almost caramel, flavored. It was fluffy, without being incredibly airy, almost like it was a mousse, instead of a pudding. It was a meal in itself. I wish I knew the secret to making this pudding. The only draw back was I was wishing I had a whole box of crisp Vanilla Wafers to dip in this amazing, sweet, vanilla goodness. It’s a meal in itself. We will definitely be back. I have a new favorite place to eat.

I have eaten here a dozen times or so and when they are good they are very good. However, they seem to have mediocre nights. Not really bad but not up to their usual standard. Love the fried shrimp and the sandwiches are pretty darn good. It’s a fairly nice place but it’s not fancy so if you are looking for a «date night out» spot or trying to impress your new flame, keep looking. Good wait staff and pleasant folks. I recommend it for the food. Have not found anything on the menu that was not a decent meal. I ate their crawfish a few months back and they were good without being blazing hot.

This place was recommended by a neighbor… best fish tacos and shrimp poboys. I’ve been disappointed by so many poboys that I’m a lil hesitant. So when my Momster decided to try the café I said why not. We got the grilled fish parchatrain and mardi gras shrimp poboys. I asked for everything in the poboys with tartar sauce on the side. Must say its quite delicious!!! Unfortunately we had the grilled fish parchatrain first and its actually good for 2 people. By the time the shrimp po boys came out we were quite full already. I couldn’t help try the shrimp before I packed it to go. The shrimp was deliciously grilled. The seasoned fries is oh-so-good! Three hours later my poboys are still delicious as ever! Grilled shrimp on a bed of lettuce onion pickles snuggled by buttery toasted sweet bread. Had the tartar on the side but next time I will have my poboys slathered with it. Good food!!!

Came in on a Saturday evening. Not too crowded. Didn’t wait long at all to order or get our food. Cole slaw wasn’t very good. However, the hush puppies are very good. Fried shrimp was very good size and tasted delicious. Fried exactly right. Hubby said the fried catfish was best around. We’ll be back.
