This is our usual Chinese food fix. The general chicken, happy family, orange chicken, three flavor shrimp, chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein are in our usual rotation for take out. The food is consistently good and their service is warm and friendly.

Stopped in for lunch after a run to Navy Fed. Hot tea and crispy noodles with dipping sauce were served as soon as we sat down. Large menu but with fewer dumpling choices than we had anticipated — and they had run out of steamed boa. We settled on chicken shu mei, pork pot stickers, egg rolls, and chicken lo mein. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Will definitely stop in again.

Really wanted to like this place since it is the only Chinese restaurant close to our house. Ordered the egg drop soup for my husband to pick up since I have the flu. He ordered wontons. Long story short — I should have checked Unilocal first. Indeed, as another reviewer stated, the soup is like«snot and flavorless». It was as though it was put in a blender, so frothy when I opened the container. No corn, no seasonings, nothing but snot sludge. So gross! I called and asked why there was no chicken, corn etc… in the soup and the woman that answered the phone said, and I swear«the corn is on the freeway». LOL! At least I was laughing as I poured it down the sink. The wontons were overcooked, and they went in the trash, too. Will I eat here again? No way, Jose!

My husband and two small kids dined here on the Monday after Christmas 2015 with my Mother and two young cousins(party was 6 w/a high chair). We arrived just after 4 pm and the dining room was mostly empty. We were promptly seated and given menus. The waitstaff came around after 13 minutes to take our drink and food order. Just prior to this my 4 year old was trying to shake a bug off of her sleeve which turned out to be a young cockroach. I knocked it off the table and, despite my misgivings, proceeded to order dumplings. Unfortunately they were completely sold out and they explained they had been for the last two days due to the recent past holiday rush. We proceeded to order orange beef, orange shrimp, war wonton soup, sizzling rice soup, vegetable egg foo young, house lo mien and curry fried rice. The two soups came out first and, while they were choke full of veggies and meat, both broths were weak in flavor. The rest of the dishes came out later, after the table was cleared of the soups, and most were tasty. We all agreed the orange beef had a nice tang and good orange-y flavor. Same goes for the Orange shrimp which we all fought over. My favorite was the fried rice which had a delicate curry flavor. The veggies in the egg foo young were crisp tender. The house lo mien for me was the weakest dish as there was little meat and the noodles were just this side of underdone. I do not fault them for their lack of dumplings and, of the 7 dishes we shared, 4 of them had good flavor & texture. While this is not my first time finding a live bug in a restaurant it did worry me that one appeared at a table well before any food was laid on it. Cleanliness at this place was a big question mark for me as the soy sauce dispenser was dark and caked on with old sauce as well. Bottom line: My Mother explained she has been coming here for 10 years and, because I trust her judgment, I would try this place again. However I would call ahead to confirm dumplings are available.

My first time here. Food was really good. Just sad because they don’t serve dessert. But lady was really nice and brought me a almond cookie.

This is a family owned Chinese restaurant serving authentic Americanized Chinese food. It has the small town feel and I can tell that the customers there are all locals and were familiar with the small staff. These type of restaurants cannot be compared to fast food franchises like Panda Express that I have seen people mistakenly do on Unilocal.Private restaurants such as these have the right to express creative freedom with their entrees. So if you come here expecting orange chicken to taste similar to Panda, then go to Panda because you’ll be disappointed because you have been programmed to desire a certain taste. So now for the review: I ordered the shu-mai, chicken pan-fried noodles, beef egg foo young and wonton soup and it did not disappoint. The portion sizes were rather large and it was all served with a hefty serving of steamed rice. Everything was cooked fresh and it was very tasty. My kids liked the savoriness of the cooked napa cabbage served on top of the crunchy pan-fried noodles. There wasn’t a big selection of «dumplings», but what they do have is quite delicious and served how a real dumpling place would have it, served in a dumpling steamer. The egg foo young was okay, it kind of resembled tasty fried dough with a bunch of vegetables, mushrooms and savory brown sauce. My kids loved it. When we sat down, we sipped hot tea and ate crunchy noodles with duck sauce. Service is okay. I can tell that English is the waitress’s second language but I am comfortable with that. Other reviews that I have seen on Unilocal say that the servers are rude, but that is far from the truth. Chinese people that immigrated from China have grown up with different mannerisms which may seem offensive to sensitive folks around here. Once you get that, you’ll be fine. I found that the servers here were friendly and kept food on my table. It is worth a revisit to try out other dishes. Overall, I was pleased with the service, quantity of food and big selection.

My bf and I go about once a month order about 6 dishes and take the rest home the portions are large so good for big groups we just want to try everything ! Some of our favorites are the orange chicken its a bit different thinner then the reg. beef and brocoli so juicy and tasteful chow mein is always good and of course the pork dumplings are to die for! Only thing I would change is the rice they use other than that it’s great. Love it here Love the workers Love the food Love the price

I love good Chinese food. Unfortunately, much of what you get out there isn’t that great. But if you’re looking for delicious Chinese dishes served with love, then look no further than the Dumpling House. It’s family owned and run, and it shows. There’s no corporate blandness here. Everything is prepared fresh, and your taste buds will thank you. The thing about chains is that they’re consistent — for good or bad. The thing about family owned places is that they’re not always consistent. Quality can vary. But not here. I’ve eaten at the Dumpling House many times over the last five years or so, and I’ve never had a bad experience. The quality of the food is always high. Sometimes, service is a bit slower than I would like, but I’ll put up with that when the food is this good. The Dumpling House is located near Ralphs, off of Channel Islands. It’s in a typical strip mall, so there’s nothing too exciting there. The inside of the restaurant is nice and sets the tone without going overboard. But it’s the food that keeps me coming back. And I think I’m not alone in this, because nearly every time I go in there, it’s either somewhat busy or very busy. I can’t say I’ve eaten at every Chinese place in the Port Hueneme/Oxnard area. But I can say that I’ve eaten at many Chinese restaurants all over Southern California. And if I didn’t live nearby, I’d actually make a special trip to eat at the Dumpling House. That’s how good it is.

Everytime I want Chinese food I go here. Every meal starts off with complimentary crispy noodles and hot tea. Their sesame shrimp is one of a kind and my favorite dish. What makes it so special is the shrimp is lightly breaded which gives it good texture and flavored with a sweet/sour/tangy slightly spicy sauce. So delicious!!! Other dishes are good as well such as the walnut shrimp, fish with black bean sauce, house chao fen and sizzling rice soup. Those are typical dishes I get depending on my mood. All their soups are good and available for take out, especially for those days when your sick and want to take the soup home. Overall you can’t go wrong here everything is good and reasonably priced.

The restaurant has been there since the 70’s. That should tell you something. I grew up with the owner’s son Jack and always heard about the restaurant but never really bothered to go there until a few months ago. and its reputation holds up! The dumplings were very tasty a were the egg rolls and egg drop soup! The service can seem a bit spotty when it comes to refills and attentiveness. Since the whole place is ran by about 3 people they are always busy doing something like preparing a vegetable or tending to other customers. It can be annoying but it’s never been a deal breaker to me. I would take a friend here to show them good chinese food. The atmosphere is quiet too, which I love.

Wow I so wanted to like this place. It’s in my neighborhood and the people are so nice. But the food was so bad. Panda Express is so much better with their packaged taste. We ordered bbq pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, hot and sour soup, and shu mai. The bbq pork fried rice looked and tasted burnt. It wasn’t that salty, unctuous taste that one looks for. The chow mein was decent. The hot and sour soup was decent. But omg the dumplings? Honestly, what were those? Frozen? They had no taste of what was inside. The wrapper was soggy. Not good at all. I’m so disappointed. Wanted a good place for Chinese food that was close to me. Peking inn in camarillo far far surpasses this place!

I really wanted something light, but filling so when I saw there was a «dumpling house» where I lived, I was super excited! I love dumplings and dim sum and I knew I was going to get what I was looking for. I ordered take out, so I can’t say how the service is. The lady who took my order was nice though. The first thing that kind of threw me off was they didn’t have a variety of dumplings. Only like 6 :/. The rest were entrees and such. But I really wanted a variety of dumplings so that kind of sucked. I ordered 4 of the 6. I ordered: –fried cheese wontons –potstickers –chicken shu Mai — steamed beef dumplings I was going to order the tiny bao, but they didn’t have it. The other things I ordered were: — wor wonton soup — orange chicken I thought the shu Mai and cheese wontons were great! They really hit the spot, the potstickers and the beef ones… Not so much. My husband liked them though. The wor wonton soup was awful, I had a taste and that was enough to not make myself eat it. I was hoping for a light, golden chicken broth with maybe a few vegetables and wontons. This one had a dark broth, vegetables that were added last minute, and chicken, beef, shrimp, and wontons. That may sound good to some, but for me, I just couldn’t stomach it. The orange chicken was good, they give you a lot(and it comes with rice). I enjoyed that. I can’t say I don’t like this place, but I can’t say I like it either. If I came back it would only be for the cheese wontons and shu Mai. I feel maybe if they had more dumplings and variety I would have been happier(because originally I did want just dumplings). But this is just a regular Chinese resturaunt, not really a «dumpling house»

Came on a Saturday afternoon by accident. I saw dumplings on the sign and had to check it out. There’s 6 types of dumplings on the menu but this included cream cheese wontons. We ordered the steamed tiny bao(xiao long bao) and also ordered a lunch special chicken chow mein dish just in case the bao’s didn’t come out right. I was disappointed with the steamed tiny baos. After having Din Tai Fung, it’s hard to eat at other places. I had to try. I will give them a plus as they are homemade and filling… larger than most tiny baos! I must say their lunch specials are good deals. It included a choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup, steamed or fried rice and an egg roll or a green salad. The chicken were in large chunks and chow mein was okay. Their hot and sour soup was the highlight. Friendly staff and spacious.
