I’m a huge fan of this place. I don’t speak Spanish and most of the staff don’t speak much English. With that said, I rarely know exactly what I’m ordering here. I am able to ascertain whether I am ordering chicken, beef, pork, etc., but the rest is typically a surprise. They offer three types of rice every day(a yellow rice, rice and beans, and white rice). Sides include red beans, plantains and yucca, and lots of other things I have yet to be able to accurately identify. I’ve never been disappointed and I’ve never been hungry after finishing the small sized serving. The small plate is typically a rice and a meat. Probably weighs over a pound after they stuff the Styrofoam container to its bursting point. Food tastes fresh. The employees are polite. And it’s super affordable. The small lunch runs $ 4…yes $ 4. Where can you eat a slow cooked, homemade lunch for $ 4? I’ve tried the tripe stew, roast pork, pork rinds, ribs, chicken wings, empanadas, pastelles, tostadas in addition to some other things and have enjoyed them all. It’s not much to look at from the outside — or inside for that matter, but don’t judge a book by its cover. ***The small lunch serving is now $ 5. Still a bargain!

Todays lunch was Yellow rice, white beans and roast pork. There was a little bit of a line today and I seemed to be the only one only getting a single plate. One of the guys in front of me had asked about the tamales and they even explained about which ones were made fresh in the store and which were not. I believe the answer was Chicken was not and the corn were. So anyway another good lunch and the endless debate about what to do for dinner. Still feeling stuffed…
