Time Out To Eat

Disappointment! Just ordered $ 30 worth of takeout for dinner and what a waste! I don’t get what all the hubbub is all about, there are other places around that are much better than this one.
I’ve been to their food truck many times for the chicken & rice and a few other bites so figured I’d try the restaurant out. Will never go back.
Veggie samosas: Cold!
Chicken korma: Cold!
Garlic naan: Cold!
Other dishes: Hot (and not just temperature-​wise despite asking for mild)
Yes I ordered takeout but I live 7 minutes away and dug into our food as soon as I brought it home so half of it shouldn’t have been cold. The problem was that I was told there’d be a 25-​minute wait for my order, no problem, but I waited another 20 minutes once I got there making it more like 45-​minutes, and everything was coming out of the kitchen piecemeal. They weren’t even busy, there was a table of 2 seated and one other takeout order besides mine.
Let’s talk about the two chicken dishes: They were both with bone-​in chicken, which I wasn’t expecting. Not only that, they were little odd pieces of chicken cut up so that in every mouthful you had to pick out small shards of bone and cartilage and you’d only get a tiny piece of actual chicken.
I will admit that I have a mild-​to-​medium palette so we asked for everything to be mild but all 3 dishes (chicken korma & tikka masala and the palak paneer) were all too spicy for us.

This is a cool place; a real «food truck» that doesn’t give one a fatal food-​borne illness! It’s amazing that the «dirty-​water» hot dog trucks are still around, but those terrorists continue to operate, slowing murdering people in full view. If there were more trucks like this, those guys would crawl back in their dirty little holes.
Ate here last week with two vegetarian friends. We got the falafel sandwiches, along with their version of Netherlands fries.
The food was made by a young lady who changed gloves at least three (3!) times while making our food. Inside the truck was very clean. Took a while to make, but was very good. Nowhere to wait but in the car, sitting in cheesy (construction…NOT food-​covered) plastic chairs or standing on 347, but at least you’ll burn more calories waiting on a cold day!
The falafel was served on a really nice, warm bread-​wrap. Insides were stuffed with veggies and an interesting take on Tzatziki sauce. Very mild for a place that specializes in spicy food. Crisp falafel, yet moist inside. No nasty overused oil flavor.
The fries (Hey! It’s a food truck. Want to try truck-​style stuff!) were served with a slightly spicy but not-​too-​salty paprika blend and a «white sauce» that seemed like a healthier version of mayo.
Wish they would offer some more vegetarian options, as they do at their restaurant, but the food was good, very reasonably priced, and hygienically-​prepared. Looking forward to seeing some menu changes.

Yummy and cheap! Get the garlic naan so good!

I used to go here when I went to Stony Brook. Their food is always fresh and made well, and they always have a variety of food to offer. I love their lamb and rice, or their couscous with chicken when available. They keep up with whatever trends are going on among Manhattan street vendors, like kati rolls for example– and they make those well too. If you’re in the area and looking for a good, cheap bite, definitely give these guys a try– you’ll be glad you did.

Time out to eat is a great halal food truck and its so very cheap! The masala fries were out of this world delicious! I had falafel, which was really good and the sauces were yummy too. My boyfriend had the gyro. Let me put it to you this way, the fries were gone before we got half way home and we didn’t speak to each other while we were eating.

This place was more than your average gyro truck, it had philly cheesesteaks, burgers, wings, and masala fries! All for less than $ 6 each too! The truck accepts all major credit cards too! Its located infront of a Dr’s office I believe.
I had this back in September I believe so this review was a little overdue. It’s quite up there on 347 have to go at least 10 – 15 minutes past Smithaven Mall.

This review is long overdue. I’ve tried the chicken Kati roll, falafel platter, lamb over rice and chicken over rice. My fave is the kati roll and then the falafels. Five bucks for two generously sized and perfectly seasoned Kati rolls– what more could I ask for. Lamb over rice is ok not as good as the city’s but still pretty good. I don’t think I’ve gone through a week without gettin me some Kati rolls and to top it off the owners are super nice. They’ve given us a bowl of soup while waiting for our food. I hope this place says longisland needs more places like this.

I absolutely love this food truck. It’s not an ordinary food truck. Sure they have the usual gyros and chicken & rice (which by the way are amazing) found similar to Manhattan food carts, but they also have amazing daily specials which is far from the usual. Some of the specials I have had were an Eggplant dish with rice pilaf, a roasted lemon chicken with Couscous, and a dehi bara chaat, among other delicious dishes.
The meals are very large and always satisfying, and the prices are so cheap. The owner is also really nice. Ask her what she recommends for the day. She always has something cooking in the back that is AMAZING.
Can’t go wrong visiting this truck.

I returned here yesterday and the food was even better than last time. I got one of the specials which consisted of ground lamb cooked with an abundance of spices (spicy too which I loved) that was served with pickled red onions, salad, and a large pita. Really, for $ 5, the quantity and quality of the food cannot be beat. I love being able to satisfy my craving for Indian/​Halal food without paying outrageous prices.

NEVER have I been disappointed in the food here! I work in the building in back of Time Out To Eat so I get lunch from them quite often, and I have to say not only are the meals delicious and affordable, but they are plentiful as well!
I’m a VERY germ phobic and a diabetic so I have to really limit myself to very clean establishments with very fresh food and I have to say the owner keeps this truck immaculate and the food is same day fresh!
I wish I could suggest a specific meal but honestly EVERYTHING is AMAZING, and for $ 5.00 you CANNOT GO WRONG!

Holy Crap!!! $ 5 meals!!! Also equals 5 STARS!!!
I have been driving by this place for so long. Finally I was able to stop and order something. I got the Chicken special, Chicken and rice, and lamb and rice.
While I was standing patiently waiting for my food to come. I noticed this awesome smell coming from the food truck. I knew I was in for a treat when I got home.
THE FREAKING LAMB AND RICE WAS OFF THE HOOK!!!
Gryo meat on top of rice and some yogurt sauce. The perfect flavor of sweet, savory, heat, and salty lamb.
This place is situated next to a barber shop. I think most of the traffic in the lot is for the food truck and nothing else in the lot.
FYI, I went back 2 days in a row and it is still great grub.

Stopped at this sparkling-​clean food truck for lunch on a Thursday. The owners are helpful and friendly. Ordered the chicken roti wrap (two for $ 5) with cilantro salsa and the masala fries ($ 2). This is totally unique food for the area. The roti wrap had a ton of sauteed onions, a bit spicy and it appeared like there was a fried egg in there as well as the seasoned chicken in a delicious tastes-​like-​homemade wrap. The masala fries were also pretty decent (check out the pic), typical americanized fries but drizzled with a yogurt sauce and a dusting of chili powder (my guess). For the price you get huge servings of food! My only minor gripe is the usage of styrofoam containers. For a single meal I ended up with two of these containers. Hey TOTE, think about switching to biodegradables and you’ve got my loyalty.

EDIT Apr 2013 This place has not been open for months now. Supposedly they are going to reopen it when it is warm out but I am not so sure. They recently opened a restaurant and I think their resources are all being used there.
My brother is a guy that eats pizza 5 days a week, and he stumbled upon my reviews. He said to me «How come all the places you like are closed?!». He is right, sadly a lot of the places that are unique to this area but common in the city close! This will not be another one! I would like to think it is due to the fact that while there will be a line out the door for Cheesecake Factory, people do not like quality ethnic places! Or maybe I just like places that suck :(
Located in the middle of nowhere on 347 in a small pool place’s parking lot, I drove by one day and saw what looked to be an authentic NYC halal food truck. I kept driving because I presumed it was a mirage, there would never be such a place there. I returned yesterday and yes indeed this is an authentic NYC style halal food truck serving classic chicken and rice, kati rolls, and other more American faire with nothing costing more than $ 5!
I ordered the chicken Kati rolls 2/​$ 5. Normally these are small things similar to a say soft taco but these things were tremendous! My only complaint was that they are so large thus making them hard to eat. The container with the 2 of these seriously weighed more than 1.5lbs. What a value and they were good! She saw that I was some white dude there and was like this has spicy green sauce on it. I said great! Then she warned me there is egg in it. Yes of course bring it on. I guess it is hard being a trail-​blazing pioneer in this land of franchises.
People, please go down and feed your whole family from this truck (cheaply). The owners must be saluted for bringing such a business out here to the sticks it takes balls! You will realize why Halal food has taken the crown of street food in NYC as only tourists there really eat hot dogs. Next time you are waiting outside of some garbage formulaic casual dining place waiting for an hour for gut busting, salty reheated packaged food, LEAVE and support locally owned and interesting restaurants!

How convenient and yummy! The truck is parked right on 347 and you can park in a lot (you don’t have to park in the shoulder of the road).
The cooks here are super friendly and cook a great gyro and kati roll! My only complaint is that there are sometimes little variations in their food from week to week, depending on who is there cooking. They take credit cards now too… score!
