I had really wanted to go, based on the pictures and reviews. Unfortunately, I think this venue is closed, for good. A couple of days ago, we drove to East Main in search of ‘that place that sells pottery,’ and found the building, but the downstairs part had no sign and the windows were blocked out. The business in the building’s upper level, a pet food ’boutique,’ was still open. If Gallery 301 has relocated, there was no sign indicating that.

Love this Pottery Shop, filled with cool stuff and a super nice owner Joy. This shop adds to the quaint character of beautiful east main st, they have very cool uncommon things you wont find at big box stores, and if you get a chance shop there on the weekends they have live musical performances in front of this cute shop.

Gallery 301, on Long Island’s north shore, is a little bit of whimsy and a lot of beautiful art pieces. Stocking mostly artistic and functional pottery, it also houses paintings, framed photographs, a few small sculptural items, fun photo greeting cards, and macramé-woven beaded jewelry. I met the owner, Joy, at an expo where I had my pottery pieces for sale. She admired the eclectic nature of my stoneware creations and asked if I’d like them to be part of her shop, so I went to check out the gallery. Parking on Main Street is a bit difficult, since Pt. Jefferson is a town with three ferry lines and lots of tourist-y things to do, but there is a municipal or town lot nearby. If you’re willing to walk short distances, there is street parking on the more residential streets that sprout off of Main. Back to the gallery: There is a big POTTERY sign that you see immediately, but the Gallery 301 sign in the front window is a bit too small to see easily. That being said, it’s a happy surprise to go past the unassuming exterior into a room that’s full of interesting objets de artes that you’re not sure where to look first. The gallery is charming and nicely-arranged. My first thought was, «Wow, there’s a lot of beautiful pottery»: jars, dishes, plates, mugs, bowls… and quirky pottery, too: beehive-shaped coin banks, bird pitchers, and funky chip-and-dip bowls. Then there are the framed photographs, paintings, and art/fun greeting cards. Last but not least is the macramé-woven bead jewelry that Joy makes. They are like small tapestries, patterned and quite intricate. Gallery 301 made such a good impression on me that I left some pieces with Joy, and am now recommending it to anyone who feels like they’d like an uplifting and personal experience with beautiful handcrafted artisanware and art pieces.
