Tara Inn

This is a little dive bar that no one would even think has good food but they do. They serve everything on paper plates. It is very casual. Burgers and sandwiches use to be $ 1 but prices have gone up a bit. Still worth the trip for lunch or dinner.

You just can’t beat Tara’s! Reasonably priced drinks, excellent food at bargain prices. Friendly, welcoming vibe inside. While I don’t make it here often enough, every visit is always memorable.

This USED to be a great place before families started showing up. The place is so small as it is and now there are little kids allowed in a BAR? I would like to go to an ADULT establishment and not have to deal with kids. I am a father myself who loves his child very much, but would like a break now and then. The families can go down the road to Applebees. Tara’s was always a BAR and no children should be allowed in.

I absolutely love this place. I bring my friends every chance i get. Everyone i bring loves it too!

An all time classic. Been going there since I was a kid. Still remains an awesome place. Cheap food. Great people.

Kids are definitely welcome to eat there and it is encouraged by the owner. We have taken our kids there for lunch several times and love it. My sister and I go to sit at the bar, enjoy a nice drink, and eat their fabulous food. Great staff there.

This place is awesome. The epitome of dive bar. An older local crowd And some weathered bartenders with great sense of humor. Came here last night for a few before stonybrook basketball whooped Albany. Our group ordered a bunch of bar food and it looked amazing and didn’t cost any of us more than $ 20 to get a good drunk and full belly. They had a pool table, seats and tables and lots of sports on TV. It was just what I needed at the end of a long week. A laid back heavy pour kinda place everyone would enjoy.

The best happy hour around. Really cheap, really yummy food. Love the burger. Good drinks. A local landmark.

Very economical go ! One of the best Long Island ice tea. The place is very lively. Paper plates look cheap but that’s what to expect from a local dive bar. Loud noise and pool table makes it more interesting. You won’t be disappointed unless you go in a suit !

Best of the best, But what happened to KJ the bar tender?

To me, this a full package! While the food prices remained very cheap, the food is certainly NOT cheap quality! I think I can eat about 50 of their delecious mini tacos: I am not exxagerating. Also, their burgers are amazing! Never under or over cooked: and come with great toppings like potato chips, bacon, and pickles.
The owners, and Tara herself, are very nice! I love this place!

As a college student, we come here to drink for CHEAP! Always a fun time to get $ 6 pitchers and play quarters.
Right next to the Port Jeff Station LIRR stop making it perfect for SBU students to hop on the train!

This place is disgusting. Do yourself a favor and drive any other direction and go to a bar with good food and good service. So many better bars just down the hill. Going here is like going dumpster diving with a 6 pack of crap beer.

Okay HOW does this place make money?!
This is by far the cheapest bar food I’ve ever had. Ever. And it’s good! Their happy hour is amazing.
I got mozzarella sticks (an order came with 9! unlike the usual 6) and a bacon cheese burger. In total, it was $ 6.25 because it was happy hour so everything was half off — WHAT?! How is that even possible. I have a thing for mozzarella sticks and these were amazing! Burger was pretty good as well. Also, service is friendly and quick. You’re not waiting too long for your food.
Only thing I really don’t like about Tara’s is that they definitely don’t consider the environment. They refuse to give you tap water — you have to by a bottle of Poland Spring. It’s only $ 1 but it’s still surprising considering how cheap everything is. Furthermore, everything is served on paper plates.
Regardless, if you’re looking for somewhere low key with cheap drinks and solid, greasy, unhealthy, but delicious bar food, this is a good spot.

I think it just might be. Cheapest food around and you could do much worse on quality. Great bar specials, good crowd, nothing beats it.
It’s a bit of a dive, but a family friendly dive?.. Sure, they have great wings, boos burgers, great and friendly staff. You can’t go wrong!
Don’t expect a craft beer bar, expect the best food for the price and a pitcher of Miller for as little as FREE! You heard me.
I almost don’t want to tell ya, but happy hour brings a special treat, order your pitcher Matt and pints and you will then be greeted with a little pull-​tab card numbered 1 – 5. Pick a number and let the fun begin. You options are free, full price, half price, and 5or10 cents. Two slots have full price on them so good luck!

Cheap cheap cheap bar food! and the best part about it. It ACTUALLY taste really good! Its a great place to socialize with a group of friends. Grab a few beers and some food and just enjoy

Love this place. Great local bar and restaurant. The food is so cheap and always delicious. The menu is on the wall and for the most part will be under 5 bucks. Come early!

Went on the Port Jefferson ferry the other day… and found this restaurant on here ( Unilocal)…and it seemed like it had alot of good reviews. I went with a group of people but they didn’t want to walk the mile to get there… so I ventured out. I’m soooooooooooo GLAD I did. This restaurant is a nice quaint little place nestled inland from the ferry harbor. I’m not a walker… but I made it… cause of all the positive reviews. Walking into this restaurant one is reminded easily of an Irish or English pub. Everyone was quite nice and friendly. There’s no menu’s. You look at the prices on a board or specials that are written on paper plates (which I thought was an interesting idea). What I went for… was the $ 10 lobster with soup and salad (I seen this in a posting in February)…but I guess their prices change in the summer… it was $ 16. So I opted for the Fried fish & Scallops. This came with a soup, salad, french fries and cole slaw. It was only $ 9.00…what!!! Yep $ 9.00 I’m serious. I also said I wanted the fried shrimp. I thought I ordered a side but it came with all the sides the first platter came with… so I had a table full of food. YAY!!! All the fried fish was fried to perfection. Whoever was working the fryolator knew their business. The waitress (I didn’t get her name)…had long blonde hair and was nice as can be. All I can say about the Tara Inn… is…WOW, SUPER, AMAZING, CORDIAL, YUMMY… I’d definitely go back.
Go to the Tara Inn… you’ll be glad you did!!!

This is just such a classic true blue Irish family style pub. You can go during the day with the whole family, including the tots to get an awesome lunch or head there in the night for some drinks and dinner.
They have a small pool table and there’s always people to play with! The bartenders are super friendly and will always offer a buy back. The happy hour they have is amazing and it’s fun too! You pull a number and get anywhere from full price drinks down to 10cents a drink! How could you go wrong?!
They have $ 1 beers and cheap pitchers also!
The food is just a solid home run. It’s so crazy cheap but it so so good! The chili is by far the best I’ve ever had anywhere. $ 10 lobster with a small salad, soup and fries… what?!
Games in the Tara inn are classic also. They had a beer skew ball game, score 400 and win a free beer! They now have a single player beer pong game! They have also have the classic battle star alien invasion game and a claw machine which is great when your drunk, lol!

This place is a legend for late night and cheap eats — as well as a fun bar area.
I am always amazed at the low costs for food in here — and the fact that it goes late is awesome for when you want .10 cent wings and you want them now!
Pool table is an added bonus.,
Seriously, what more could you ask for in a local dive beside solid, cheap food and drinks?
