My husband has been getting his haircut by James since they had the original location back many years ago, he has NEVER been disappointed. We now take our 2 boys there since the very first haircuts(now 4&2) and James and the rest of the guys are awesome with them. Little ones can be difficult to work with although mine seem happy if you give them a Lolly pop and are pretty used to it by now but when the kids(mine and others) haven’t always been so cooperative the staff has always been patient and understanding. All of the guys do a great job and couldn’t be nicer. My boys usually end up getting cuts by James just like their daddy but we have also had Jason and some of the other guys and they have all done a fantastic job. Definitely schedule an appointment because I have noticed most of the guys have a good following and even though they welcome walk-ins, depending on the day walk-ins will have a wait unless someone’s cancelled or it happens to be a slower time which seems rare for them. Be sure to try some of their products, my little ones look so cute all groomed and smell awesome, I can’t stop giving them hugs & kisses(daddy too!!!). Whether it by in pictures we’ve shared on social media with family and friends or strangers I meet in a store, I am always getting compliments on how great the boys cuts are.

I have been getting my hair cut here(and in the previous location across the street) for many years. The place is modern, clean and always busy(make sure you call ahead for a reservation) I couldn’t be happier with the haircuts and service, and always get compliments after I get a cut. I consider James, my barber, a friend who I look forward to seeing when I go in. My young sons go here here as well, and are always happy with their cuts.

I’ve been an avid supporter of Pete Falzone and Pete’s barber shop for many, many years. I like most people, have their barber that they’ve been going to, and kinda’ stick with that person. Loyalty is key in this type of business and service… However, fast forward to me one day finding out after going to Pete for 15 years, that kinda’ just skipped town and left? SO, I was left to find a new barber. I hang out at the Port Jeff starbucks often, and see James come in every morning to get his coffee. Almost all of the regulars at PJ Starbucks know him and speak very highly of him as well as his haircuts. So, I gave him a shot one morning and I gotta’ tell you, although he’s $ 5 – 7 more than what I was paying at Pete’s, James and the Mens Room is worth every additional penny, and then some. You know, you really don’t know what your missing until a forced change like this happens. You don’t know what you don’t know, right? What a difference in the haircut, the level of service, the consistency of every haircut, the products used, the friendly staff, the knowledge that James has, and the fantastic hairstyle he’s recommended/given me which all the women now seem to love. :) I can’t say anything more than I already have, he’s awesome as well as his guys at his shop. *PROTIP* James has quite the following and requires me to have to reserve a spot days in advance… so plan appropriately, and visit James! My husband goes here for his hair cuts. He gets a simple cut and hates when places try to spike it up or use a blow dryer. He just wants a cut and to get out. This place is located by Billies and is very masculine looking, which with a name like men’s room is what they were going for. Walking by I see mom’s with their sons waiting so its not somewhere that a woman would be made to feel uncomfortable. My husband likes it because they consistently give a great cut. Cuts are $ 17.

My usual barber shop was closed today and found myself in Port Jefferson spending an afternoon. Walked in here and was taken to a chair pretty quickly. The guy who was cutting my hair– an older gentleman who was friendly enough– but he didn’t seem to understand what it was I wanted. My hair is not difficult to cut. I’m balding and keep it very short. I always ask for a skin fade– ½ on top, down to skin on the sides. Most barber shops usually either use a straight razor on the sides and back, or a shaver. This guy couldn’t figure out what I wanted or take it short enough. I told him three times and it still wasn’t short enough. Then he pulls out the razor to shave my neck and sideburns. He didn’t put in a fresh blade that I saw. Gross. I gave up and let him finish. The cut cost $ 17– $ 4 more than I pay at other barber shops I have gone to. And as I said, a much worse cut. When I got home, I looked in the mirror, which again I was not given to closely examine the cut in the shop. There were hairs of varying lengths sticking up and he left the temples fairly uneven. One of the worst cuts I’ve ever had. I had to come home and use my trimmers to clean it up. Not worth the money at all, at any price. Wanna a great barber shop? Try Rami’s in Holbrook, Euro Barbershop in Kings Park, or anywhere but here.

Nice bunch of guys that started with a small location and moved across the street to a really nice shop in the village of Port Jeff. They give a good haircut!

I’ve been coming here since 95′-96′(old location). Good people here with the ability to carve your hair into art. You want a flat top? You got it! Mullet? No problem. Pubes? I’ve never asked…

Tried this barber a few times and tried all others in the area. This is the only barber shop in the area that has kept me satisfied. I was in a rush today and sat in the new guys chair. This is not as risky here. I met Joey who did great job on my hair. Will be asking for him going forward. Update: My favorite barber Joey no longer works there.

A prosperous busy tonsorial emporium owned by two go-getter young cousins, who also own a shop in Stony Brook. Reservations helpful, especially on busy days of the week. Despite the name of the place, no misogynist chit-chat – it’s female friendly. While kids hair is cut(one of my grandsons got his first haircut here by a patient young barber), no little chairs in the waiting area or children’s books. Bring your own reading material. My favorite staff barber is Phil(5*), the long-time owner(former) of the Stony Brook Village Barber Shop, who has come out of retirement and holds court in the back chair of The Mens Room on most Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Phil’s not only a virtuoso with a scissors and comb, but terrifically upbeat – a session with him not only leaves me looking top-notch, but glowing and with enough positive attitude to last almost until the next time I can drop in. He’s very restrained in expressing outrage about the national economy, wingnuts, or corrupt local or state politicians; on the other hand, if you are less temperate in your expressions of outrage, he responds in a calm voice. My Frederick Douglass style beard requires attention also, and he accomplishes the needed amendments and trim with élan. Because he’s semi-retired, Phil spends stretches in Seattle, Florida, and in his childhood hometown in Italy. If I’m looking unkempt it’s usually because he’s been out of town. Reasonably priced: Men’s Room $ 17 + Phil $ 10 tip. Competing barbers of this caliber: $ 30 – 45. Academically hip psychoanalysts of Phil’s seniority, in our neighborhood: minimum $ 475/per«hour».
