I’ve been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and the service, quality and price are still fabulous! I love this family owned venue and the family! Go soon and often!

Wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good. Food was mostly bland and the salsa was just ok. Nothing stands out as a reason to come back. Much better mexican food can be found around here.

Great portions. Love their lunch specials. Friendly and attentive service. Kind of dark atmosphere. Could updated lighting. But otherwise a great food, with clean booths and surroundings.

Seating is readily available. Service is quick. Families welcome. Drinks are large and there’s a special daily. Meals are affordable. Chips and salsa is always free. Catch any soccer game here! Actual Hispanic family cooking tatsy mexican food. It’s a yummy staple in Port Orchard. Been coming here for 20 years and food is consistently great.

This place has GREAT food and awesome drinks and service. We go into this place a lot and love Joni there — she is one of the servers /bartenders. She is always very attentive friendly and takes super good care of us. Half the time she sees us coming ahead of time and has our drinks on the bar before we even get to the bar. She is really good LOL… She also knows exactly what we usually order food wise and asks us if we are ordering the same as always … This place rocks it’s just like home :)))

Not bad, not excellent either. It is the usual American«Mexican» food. Service has been good every time we have been here, and we have never had any negative experiences.

It’s okay, I eat there when my friends really want to. It’s good, simple fare and I enjoy myself enough. I don’t expect any fancy dishes, and I don’t get any. I recommend it for a place to bring the family where half wants Mexican and the other half is super picky about strong flavors.

Ok. For the skeptics out there wondering if El Sombrero compares to Cali’s Mexican food I can attest to its authenticity. As a native Californian, new to Washington, and Port Orchard, I assure you that not only is it just as good as many of the Mexican restaurants it is as like«home/mama’s» cooking for my full-blooded Mexican boyfriend. We are ecstatic that we found a little piece of home this far away! If you haven’t tried this place… GO! If you have… GOAGAIN! It is the best we have found thus far… we have tried all of the options around!

My wife and I split the arroz con pollo and it was delicious! The salsa and chip were some of the best we’ve had and the bean dip was a nice cheap add on. Been a favorite place to come for years and we will keep returning for years toncome.

Great Mexican food. Pretty quick service. Normal priced and large portioned entrees($ 10 – 13). The place is nice and clean, very casual. Everything you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. One of my favorites along with Puerto Vallarta.

El Sombrero used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant in town, but sadly since the move and«upgrade» it is not anymore. It has lost the authentic, comfortable feel. And the dishes have gone down hill as well. Tonight had a plate with a chicken taco, chicken enchilada and shredded beef tamales. The taco was just alright and the tamale was very dry. The enchilada will be my lunch tomorrow, we’ll see how it is. Will probably be back someday, although it won’t be my first or even second choice.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Chips and salsa is always fresh and the cazuela Margaritas are a great way to start your night off.

We come here during happy hour for the cheap ice cold beer. Its the coldest beer in town. Food is average. Just the normal american type mexican food. Like I said, we go for the beer :-)

I have no idea about authenticity — I’ve never been to Mexico or eaten in AZ/TX or southern CA. But I can tell you that I really enjoy the food here! The staff is all very friendly, the food is good, and it’s reasonably priced. It’s a dream boat of cheese, meat and rice goodness. They’ve done a recent remodel and it looks nice! I walk in hungry and leave happy. The place is clean and I’m not hearing screaming children from other customers. That’s a win in my book for Port Orchard!

Average at best. Considering that Puerto Vallarta is only about 10 blocks away. El Sombrero really needs to step up their game.

Only been here a couple times. but was presently surprised tonight. when we decided to drop in here for some quick Mexican food. Service was average. Nothing amazing. Food was pretty good for a white American Mexican restaurant. We had the chicken bacon club tacos. Don’t normally add bacon to tacos but it was actually really good. Quesadillas rocked my world. Will be back!

I don’t usually crave Mexican food; which is to say, when I do, I make it myself. But lately, something about chips and salsa has been making me drool. Since I avoid Mexican chains like the plague(no thank you), I’ve been looking for a nice little local«hole in the wall», authentic or TexMex. Thanks to the reviewers here on Unilocal,we decided El Sombrero was the place to try and we were not disappointed! My other half says you can judge a Mexican place by their tortilla soup. He was very impressed and full by the time we left. I didn’t want something way over the top that night, so a tostada salad with shredded beef was on the bill for me – definitely a good choice. Flan and deep fried ice cream was more than we could handle after dinner, but we triumphed nonetheless(and paid for it later!) The waiter was extra attentive without hovering, the ambiance was mostly tolerable(screaming children behind us and a group of foul-mouthed teenagers nearby wasn’t great — but not the restaurant’s fault, really), and the cost was comparable to a place like Azteca, but for way better quality. I actually felt like there was care taken with the meals and it wasn’t slopped onto the plate to get it out of the kitchen ASAP. Definitely a place we’ll return to in the future when I’m not up to the task to make my own Mexican food.
