The Ice Cream Palace

It’s a cute place for the students from Ridgewood or even PHSC to come to between classes or whatever, but it’s no Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. (I hate Starbucks). There were a lot of teens in there when I stopped in. I noticed that maybe one was eating something (a shake maybe?) and then, there were like, four glasses of water. The girl behind the counter wasn’t really helpful. Actually, she looked exceedingly bored, like she’d rather be anywhere else in the world but there. It’s definitely a cute little place I can see local businesses wandering into for some coffee that is not RaceTrac or Sev Lev where they can sit down and just chill. However, when I went in for some coffee, I got a cup and they pointed me over to the decanters. Okaaaaay. I thought this was more like a coffee bar, given the name. But, it’s really more an ice cream store that serves coffee. When I went to pay for my coffee, it was kind of on the costly side for such a small cup. The girl took my money, no hello, no thank you, no have a crappy day you rotten loser who is distracting me from my Twitter feed. Or Snapchat. Or whatever it is the kids are doing nowadays. Whatevs.
I really only stopped in there because my son was next door at the vape shop and I was dying for a cup of coffee, so he told me to go in there to get some. Last time I listen to a 20 year old about what good coffee is. It was super hot, that’s for sure, but there weren’t very many choices of flavored coffees or creamers, which is a little disturbing, given the name again. I thought there would be more selection, but there wasn’t.
This review is making me sound like a crotchety old woman, but I swear I’m not! I’m hip! I’m cool! I dare say even trendy! I work in social media now, since retiring from nursing. I just wanted a decent cup of Joe. This was more like a steaming cup of… Bob. Not that there is anything wrong with Bob… there isn’t. It’s just… he’s…Bob. Have you ever met a Bob that is so incredibly stimulating, you never forget him? No. Because most Bob’s are forgettable… just like this place was.
PS…don’t start sending me nasty comments about Bobs. I like Bobs. I like Bob Hope.

First time I went to this coffee shop, today is Wednesday and they had a free coffee! The owner is very polite. I also liked a custom made ice cream cakes. I definitely will be back.

I miss the fun colored hair girl. She was so sweet and helpful, and always made me feel welcome. The really skinny girl, I think her name is Morgan, could be less of a bummer to see there. She’s always sitting on the couch and on her phone. Could be cleaning or doing maintenance work instead. Doesn’t matter if you’re manager or not, you probably shouldn’t be sitting around.
Their cookie dough ice cream was the only reason I kept coming back, but they were almost always out of it. I used to come in once in a while for my lunch break and get an iced coffee or a milkshake, but I stopped going because my card would never work with their machine. I’m always worried about being double charged when a machine doesn’t go through the first time.

Nice place to come relax, drink coffee, and study. Coffee was good. It’s nothing too fancy but it has both tables and a few comfy chairs/​couch. Open till 10pm. Like I said good local place for students to come to instead of supporting corporation monsters like that Starsucks.
