We stopped by the Courtyard Café this Sunday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised to find live music playing. The place was full, but not packed — still enough seating for our small group. Part of our group is vegetarian, and we were not disappointed. There are a few vegetarian(and could be made vegan easily) items on the menu, and the staff seemed very willing to modify an order to our taste. The quality of the produce was very high(a big plus in my book), and the food delicious. The portion sizes were generous. We will definitely be back here. It was a beautiful little café, with delicious baked goods and fresh food.

This is now called The Courtyard Café. It’s a cute restaurant owned by a husband and wife team(and her sister, I believe). The sandwiches are piled high and delicious. The bread is made inhouse and sooo soft. We love coming here — the egg salad sandwich is to die for. All the desserts look lovely but my favorite are the cookies(don’t just buy 1). Friendly and helpful service, delicious food at affordable prices. What can anyone ask for?

For baked goods in Port Townsend, Bread & Roses is second only to the Tyler Street Coffee House. The raspberry scone I sampled was perfectly sweet and didn’t require a good dunk in my latte.(Crunchy scones aren’t my bag, baby) A member of our party tried the clam chowder and raved about it. All of our lattes were tasty(again, second to Tyler Street Coffee House) and the service was amiable. The location is great, and the building is nothing like Starbucks — it’s quaint and unique. I’ve been a big fan of Bread & Roses for a long time, my brother was a dishwasher here in the early 90’s and promises that nothing fishy ever happens behind the counter. That’s always nice to hear, eh? If you’re in PT, stop in — everything is tasty!

So charming! My sister took me here for breakfast and they had wonderful oatmeal and granola. A warning about the granola — I believe it’s homemade and it is certainly delicious. But I swear when we poured ½ a cup of milk on top, the granola sucked it up and the bowl was damn near dry. That is some serious granola! Good customer service and a cozy atmopshere.
