I wish I had better things to say about my meal here. It’s a cute café, very cozy with friendly staff and clientele. I ordered a ginger beer and was served a bottle of a local brew, complete with a frosty mug to pour it into. Unfortunately, lunch wasn’t spectacular. I ordered the caprese sandwich, which arrive with a flaccid pickle(an insult to pickles everywhere) and a scrap of something green as a garnish. The sandwich was on a «sourdough» that had the flavour and weak crumb of white bread. A more robust bread, perhaps toasted, would have been a better choice. The pesto was from a jar, characterised by its bright green colour and weak flavour. I don’t know if that’s to be expected from a café that focuses on baked goods(which looked gorgeous, I’ll admit), but I was irked. The greatest issue was the mozzarella. In a caprese, be it a salad or a sandwich, one expects to be treated to tender rounds of fresh, moist mozzarella. Instead I got two thick slabs of white cheese that came off of a block. I’m tempted to describe them as rubbery, but that would imply some flexible in the cheese. If I go there again, I’ll try a cinnamon roll or some other baked good, as that seems to be their forte.

Cute, cozy place with friendly staff and great food. I love the enamel plates and soup cups. I had a cup of clam chowder and ½ chicken pesto sandwich and it was fantastic and MORE than enough food. Guy got the triple decker club and could’ve ordered half it was SOLARGE. the Blanche de chambly white Belgian beer is fab and they serve in s chilled mason jar.

Good sandwiches even if the prices are a bit steep. Sandwich and a soda shouldn’t be $ 15(with tip).

Best lunch in Port Townsend on our trip. The cherry pie I got was excellent and my daughter claims that her chocolate cake was«the best ever». Excellent salad and chowder. The service was quite adequate as well, including the cashier bringing me my coffee when it was ready rather than making me wait for it at the register. FWIW, I find it odd that some other reviewers complain about having to refill their water themselves. This café has 2 self-serve water fountains — that should be a big hint that, yes, you will have to look after that yourself. Now, if that doesn’t suit you, then that is entirely understandable, but it shouldn’t surprise you either — this is, after all, a café, not a full-service restaurant. In that case, I prefer self-serve, because I don’t need to ask the staff for water.

Absolutely fantastic Twisted Cristo. This sandwich will change your life, if that were possible.

All about the twisted cristo. Absolutely amazing. Love beer cheese soup but not this one. Ive tried it a few times. Either too cheesy or to thin. They have the best pie and pastries. They make all the bread from scratch and roast meats in house.

Excellent food, superior service, great prices, and homey atmosphere! My wife and I just moved to Port Townsend, and we are grateful to our intuition for leading us to this place for breakfast. I ordered one of the specials — a bacon and cheddar scone, split in two, and topped with the housemate sausage gravy. It was spectacular! My only criticism is that the over medium egg I ordered to top the dish was over hard. That said, the egg was still delicious, so I didn’t really mind. My wife had a beautifully made(see pic), delicious cappuccino and the cinnamon roll French toast. Both were fantastic. We picked up some day old pastries on sale for only $ 2 each on the way out. This place will definitely be a home away from home for us here in Port Townsend! Highly recommend this place!

Why can’t I live closer! This place was an awesome find on my trip. Super cute, great live music, and most importantly… the food! Amazing. I had to come back an hour after eating just to try some dessert here. Definitely would recommend.

Hands down the BEST gluten free sandwich I have ever had. The gluten free carrot cake was fantastic as well. The only drawback to this place was the noise level. There was a group seated next to us that were so loud we could barely carry on a conversation at our table. The food was fantastic though!

LOVETHISSPOT. Stumbled upon it as we walked around downtown Port Townsend and was so glad that we decided to stop in. The food was delicious – I had a ham sandwich with a bowl of clam chowder – and the atmosphere exactly what I was looking for. We sat outside on their huge wrap-around porch and listened to the live music that plays all Sunday. They have a great outdoor seating area in the back in additional to the wrap around porch. I didn’t get a chance to try the pies, homemade marshmallows, or other pastries but will definitely be going back. If you are looking for a cute, quiet, tasty place to enjoy a meal then this is your spot!

Update on menu offerings: The beer cheese soup is decadent but delicious. The pot roast sandwich is superb. The Twisted Cristo sandwich is too good to share. The cinnamon rolls are addictive. The Cobb salad is amazingly bountiful, fresh and delicious every bite. The staff is warm and friendly and I love love love this place.

Fresh, whole, delicious foods. Perfect lunch spot with homemade bread and delicious ingredients. We were looking for a place with hearty sandwiches and homemade bread… The Courtyard Café delivered! The selection offered just the amount of tantalizing choices. The place was clean and well taken care of while still maintaining a homey feel. The service staff was amazing. We sat near the front counter and I couldn’t believe how much hustle and bustle the staff had. It seemed like they really cared about their work and the quality of the experience they were providing. I had the spinach salad and my husband had the 3-napkin-Reuben. Spinach salad was fresh and yummy with a great pair of ingredients. The homemade raspberry vinaigrette brought the flavors together. My husband enjoyed the Rueben. It was piled high with three bread slices. Although he liked it, he did say he preferred the Reubens I make at home better. I ha a taste of it and think mine have a creamier texture with more sauce and cheese. I think it might be a matter of preference. He also had a hot cocoa with their specialty: homemade marshmallow. The mallow was yum but the cocoa was a bit bland – could have been richer in flavor(especially with such a delectable mallow on top!). Great location downtown. Within walking distance of all PT has to offer. Pros: fresh food, friendly service Cons: Cocoa could have been richer; the place is so popular might be hard to find a table!

Great food, quaint surroundings and it was especially nice to sit outside and listen to music. I mean great food — I had pies, salads and sandwiches. The portions are huge and everything seemed homemade and especially fresh. This is my favorite place in PT. The only negative is it’s expensive. I spent $ 20 on lunch for myself. But that’s Port Townsend.

We went here for a post-wedding gathering. It appeared many locals dine here, always a good sign. We weren’t disappointed! Our menu included a ham-and-cheese and a veggie quiche along with homemade pastries and cinnamon rolls. As my astute sister-in-law would state, the meal was truly«calorie worthy.» Everything was tasty, I was especially impressed with the cherry danish. In general, we really enjoyed our visit to Port Townsend, when we return a visit to the Courtyard Café is definitely on our list.

Food was amazing. Pastry case you’ll just drool over! Make sure you order at the counter, then go sit down. We just went in and sat down and then were told«well we don’t take orders at the table but since you’re already seated we will this time». They were all super friendly, never had just one waitress, we had about 4 of them. The place was steadily busy upon arrival and then packed when we left. Definitely not stingy on food, so order what you like to eat. It was all fresh and full of flavor, might want a pastry while you wait, if busy; there’s only one chef but he doesn’t slack off. He is just hoppin the whole time back there, we sat where we could watch the kitchen area. We will definitely be coming back over for lunch soon!

I ate lunch here twice and had the BLT. The bacon was thick and had a generous portion. The avocado made it even yummier.

This place is adorable, full of cute kitschy homey signs. The woman running the register and tables was super sweet and very nice. I had their biscuits and gravy which was over a cheddar cheese scone and it was the best I’ve had in a long time. My boyfriend had the egg skillet scramble with bacon and it was delicious. Highly recommend this place.

Brunch and entertainment? Sign me up! First of all, Port Townsend is adorable… and this café just encapsulates all that is warm and cozy about this sleepy and misty town. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by the smell of homemade goods, soups, and grilled sandwiches baking. The pies look absolutely amazing. The food is very fresh and tastes amazing. The staff is super nice. I highly recommend the Twisted Monte Cristo. I was a little skeptical about the addition of pineapple to this breakfast favorite, but it was actually amazing. Just the right amount of sweet to salty. And, it’s a big portion! Get a spot quickly, because this place is popular, especially when there’s music going on! When I visited, we were serenaded with a gaggle of musicians that took turns singing and playing the guitar, harmonica, bass, violin, and accordion! But keep the kitchen aware if you’re waiting too long — we waited over 30 minutes before being served and had to remind them of our coffee orders. However, the food was definitely worth the wait!
