I don’t understand the good reviews for this place. I live just down the street from the quick stop and have been here plenty of times. Today however, the woman who often works there went from nice to nasty. I was trying to buy a beer which I have done before with no problems. I showed her my perfectly valid id and got asked for a rent receipt. Who carries a rent receipt with them? Next they’ll be asking to see my tax returns. She said if I ever wanted to buy there I had to come back with proof I pay rent. I told her there was no way I was ever coming back. There’s other stores that will treat me better. I’m confused as to why stores in Portland don’t seem to want your business, I’ve never had this type of problem anywhere else.

Cute little convenience store on the corner of 21st Ave and Hoyt. Thank goodness they were open while everything else was closed. I was able to get some snacks, water and beer in a late night emergency. The only thing missing were magazines though. I’ve bought things in the store 3 times now and all 3 times it was the same lady. She seems nice. Greeted me and asked how I was. I hope she’s not the only person working though, that’s a lot of over time! When does she sleep?

I’m not sure if this place is open 24 hours, but they are open right before the bars close, which makes it the perfect stop before heading home to pass out. I always make sure to grab something when leaving the bars to prevent the hangover. Or because I have the late night munchies and I feel like my walk home deserves some food.

Overall, the makeover is wonderful. The much welcome expanded micro-brew selection has brought me in more in the last month than I have been in for a while. The owner(I think) has been very nice each time. I think they now take plastic instead of being cash-only. I miss the pinball, though. Maybe there were too many uncouth types hanging out there, exchanging God knows what for money. What was the game room is now a coffee and drink alcove, and it seems a bit odd – for some reason I cannot place, probably aesthetically. The aisle perpendicular to the relocated register is a bit strange, too, but then, it is a «quick stop» mart, and one is not meant to linger. Unless I missed it, no more Baklava at the counter. Still, I’m glad it’s here, and I’m very happy about the changes, pinball or not, Baklava or not. A much better option than the dumpy Plaid Pantry on 23rd/Glisan. Now if they would get rid of the crack-call phone outside, all would be well on the corner.

Great place; they’re always friendly, and I’m pretty sure it’s family owned. there’s a good selection of cigarettes and drinks. It might be a little pricey, but it’s worth it.

Apparently, there is a new owner. They did a slick little makeover, and it’s much improved. They have a decent selection of wine at a good price point, and the video game nook is now a coffee nook. Perfect to grab and go. I’m thinking I will be dropping by for refreshments before my next pedi at C T Nails =)
