Abe’s Cleaners

Dropped a pair of pants to be patched and was told it would take a week. Ok… fair enough. I come back a week later to pick them up and they weren’t finished, but they had cleaned them. So… I’ve got an extra $ 5 tacked onto my $ 15 repair that won’t be done until Friday. Unimpressed… and won’t be coming back.

I prefer to visit a place at least 5 times before reviewing but I feel compelled to review this places after only 2 visits because the current reviews I believe are unfair. Also, both times I have been in here, the staff has been dealing with impatient and unabashedly racist customers.
This place is great! Don’t let the reviews fool you. These people are quick, cheap, and efficient. I have had two suits cleaned now and they have been returned to me in amazing shape despite the low price point.

I dropped off a Banana Republic jacket that need cleaned and the belt shortened. Then life got crazy and I totally forgot to go back. No reminder call. When I went back the daughter looked up my name and went to carousel but started talking to her mom. I could tell something wasn’t right. The Mom comes over to tell me that it has been donated already and that I had only 30 days to come and retrieve it. She insisted that it stated all of that on the back of the receipt which reads, «unclaimed garments will be handled in accordance with state regulations.» I don’t know what the state regulations are! She said they would look in the storage and call me but mostly acted like it was my fault and too bad. No call, of course. I guess I will have to leave my neighborhood to get my things cleaned from now on.

Wish we had more options in the area but sadly we don’t. Brought a shirt and pants in. Asked him to treat a stain. He kind of grunted at me and that was it. Not the best dry cleaning I have ever seen, but they got the job done

I go because there’s nothing else close. I’ll mimic another review and say that they have lost three dress shirts. I wouldn’t notice except that I get someone else’s. That wouldn’t be a problem if they were Brooks Brothers 16.5 X 35, but they aren’t. I asked about a «lost and found» and they go in the back to look (and I am never positive which shirt it is; I wear around 4 brands) but they won’t let me see… I am now making a list of what I drop off. That shouldn’t be necessary.

My brother is getting married this weekend and our daughters are going to be in the wedding. Their puffy little white dresses came in the mail and it took me until today to realize they are pretty wrinkled. Not possessing one of those cool steamers to get wrinkles out, I started calling around to dry cleaners to try and find someone who could dewrinkle the dresses today. Apparently that’s a tall and expensive order! One shop quoted me $ 15−25/dress and at least a three day turn around. Oy. Enter Abe’s. $ 10 per dress, it took them less than 15 minutes, and they fixed a jewel that was coming off that (no surprise here) I hadn’t noticed. I’m super impressed. I will definitely be back!

I moved from the Woodstock neighboorhood but am considering schlepping my dry-​cleanables all the way from downtown Portland over to Abe’s because I know they will do a beautiful job. I’ve brought them 2 cream-​colored coats (one wool, one down-​filled) in the past and they’ve gotten all the stains and soiling out WITHOUT turning the cream color to yellow or overworking the fabric. Some other cleaners I’ve used in the past leave a yellow cast on whitish clothes… maybe b/​c they are re-​using the solvent? Only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is b/​c their turnaround time is okay, but not particularly speedy and their prices are fair, but not any bargain.

I don’t understand the hate! When I lived in the neighborhood, I went here on an almost weekly basis for about 5 years or so. The couple who runs the dry cleaners is very sweet and appreciative of my business — every Christmas, they would give me a lint roller.
Per the other complaints, there was only one time in which they forgot to dry clean my clothes, and the owner made an exception to stay open late in order to clean my clothes. And as for the prices, PLEASE. Try getting your clothes dry cleaned on Hawthorne, Division, or the Pearl before you complain about these guys. I’m seriously considering just driving here every Saturday so that these guys can clean my clothes at a reasonable price.
Look, I don’t believe in star inflation and am often a negative nancy, but this place doesn’t merit any hate. Just a sweet, family owned business trying to make do. Support your local business! These guys deserve it.

Super friendly people and they always go out of their way to help. They have fixed buttons on shirts and cuffs on pants at no charge. Very good place to take clothes.

I’ve had almost exclusively terrible experiences here. To list a few offenses:
They ruined two of my comforters by not DRY cleaning them.
I’ve gotten back other peoples’ cleaning twice.
When I went to pick up my blouses, one of them was really wrinkled. When I asked why it was so wrinkled he pulled it out and realized, ‘oh yeah, we ripped the back so we didn’t clean it. you want us to repair it?‘
Plus, five dollars a blouse?
I’m done with this place. And I’d love to see a competent cleaners take it place.

These guys always do a wonderful job for me, so I’m surprised to see those bad reviews! I take things to them on a very regular basis, and have not been disappointed. The lady (I’m assuming she’s the owner) who works there will always put a little more time into cleaning a garment for me if necessary. And she never gives false hope. If she can’t do it, she’ll tell me. This is important, because I’ve had other dry cleaners say they could clean something, and then ruin it with an all-​out chemical assault (one 60s silk cocktail dress comes painfully to mind). As for prices, Abe’s is easy on the wallet, and their location is convenient as can be.

Worst dry cleaning service I’ve ever received. Used them a couple of times and will never go back. They lost two pairs of pants and 1 sweater. They kept saying they would look in the back and call me. They never called and after the third time I went in they told me I had already picked them up?! No apologies or even an attempt at a remedy. Blanket I dropped off was still dirty when I got it back. Save yourself a headache and go somewhere else.

We asked Abe’s to dry clean a comforter for us that has been previously dry cleaned at other cleaners. No major staining was involved in this job. The Monday after we noticed that the comforter wasn’t really clean at all. The cat hair was gone but it still had telltale signs that no normal dry cleaning had been performed. I brought the comforter back to see about a refund but she would not hear my complaint. She offered to try again but i declined the offer.

Good prices and quick turn around time! They do good work as far as cleaning. They are open on Saturdays which is good. Parking is good. As far as I know they take cash and credit cards. Convenient location in the Safeway parking lot.
