Pro: sweet man in the cart. Toasted pita wrap was fresh but chewy. Con: long wait considering there were no other customers. The hummus wrap was all wrap, no hummus. For $ 5, I got $ 1 worth of pita. Only a scraping of humus was detectable within the wrap, with some greasy fried lettuce added. Blech. Extra con: baklava filo was soggy, chewy and tasteless. The sweet filling tasted like dish soap. No kidding, dish soap. It was a hot day. The inside of the cart was sweltering and not clean. Apparently from the taste, things were decomposing in the afternoon heat. The oven that is visible from the cart service window is filthy looking, and the translucent air-vent exiting from the cart(above its roof) is loaded with grease and mold. Just stand on the street and look up. He complained about the heat; was sweating and perhaps disoriented. No doubt the cart is this older man’s livelihood and I wish him well. But clearly there is a hygiene and refrigeration issue. This cart deserves a visit from the Health Department.

The portions were a touch small, the prices were a touch high, and the wait was a tad longer than I expected, but the sandwich was fantastic. I had the falafel, it was my first taste of Portland and it did not disappoint. More times than not the falafel sandwiches I have had are wrapped in pita, this was more of a flat bread, similar to lavash but a little softer(maybe just fresher). Crispy, hot falafel seasoned well, we opted for spicy and were not left hanging, a nice red chile paste that left a lingering burn on my tongue. I took a gander at some others plates, it all looked good, fresh and you can tell this guy takes pride in his craft.

Freshly made shawarma, falafels and pitas. This place has good food served by a sweet man in the cart. The wait is a bit longer than other carts, but it’s easy to see why when you watch him put everything together and toast the pitas. This place isn’t located in the main food cart lot, but across the street at the 76 gas station. I’ve had the falafels here before, but today I got the really tasty Shich Tawook — lemon and garlic marinated chicken wrapped up with cabbage and some spicy sauce(by request). Expect to pay around $ 6. For a bit more you can get some larger plates. I’m used to humongous portions from other carts, so this didn’t seem as filling, but was probably the size I should be eating rather than what I have been eating. I have to say, I love the charm of the misspelled menu.
