I recently moved to Portland and had no idea where to get my hair done. By a complete stroke of luck I met Anna randomly while exploring my new NW neighborhood. I made an appointment with her not knowing anything about the salon– let me tell you I’m SO happy I did! She listened to exactly what I wanted and also gave me great professional advice. She turned my brassy blonde highlights into cooler icy blonde– and when I asked for a tiny trim (I’m used to saying that and then having more chopped off than what I wanted) she did a dry cut to ensure she was just taking off the dead ends and keeping my length! While my color was processing she gave me a glass of wine! I couldn’t be happier with the whole experience, and am so happy I found this gem! Anna is a rockstar!

Anna is an artiste! She was able to create a chic style for my coarse, wild and curly hair that is flattering! I’ve received so many great compliments — thank you Anna!

If you get the privilege to have Kristen touch your hair you will be singing and dancing on the way out the door. She is amazing. I can not even find enough words to describe how much of a genius she is. Her smile just makes you want to smile the whole time. I got my first balayage today from Claudette. She did an amazing job educating me, and she talked me through everything. I also received a trim, which I’m totally in love with! She earned a client for life today!

Not only is this salon professional, but everyone there makes you feel so welcome and when you walk out you feel beautiful. I have been going to Kirsten for years now and would recommend her salon to everyone that cares about having healthy, luxurious, perfectly colored hair. Love that they call me a couple days in advance to remind me of my appointment and I’ve never had a cancellation. Claudette also does the most amazing makeovers and will tailor a makeup regimen to your skin tone. What a treat! You can’t go wrong with these ladies!

Well I would have liked to schedule an appointment since I just moved to the area, but I got attitude the two times I called. The first time I called, I asked if there was anything available on Monday (which was my only day off) and was sharply told that they are closed Mondays. Okay, that’s fine. Then when I simply told them I would call back when I knew my schedule for next week, the woman on the other end snootily was like «well just to let you know most salons aren’t open on Mondays so…» (Which is not true). Uh okay… thanks?
Then when I did call back later and they did not have anything available in the times I was free, they actually hung up on me after the woman said something like «sorry!»
Guess they are not looking for new clients!

Meghan is a LIFESAVER! When another salon lost my appointment for hair and makeup for my engagement pictures, I called Appel Nouveau and Meghan said she’d come in early to take care of me. She did an AMAZING job on such short notice! I’m absolutely thrilled with the results and she was so nice. This is a fantastic salon and I will definitely be returning.

I’ve been to see Claudette Four or five times now. I’m always happy with my results. Appointments are easy to schedule, but parking is occasionally difficult to find in this trendy neighborhood. They don’t accept my AMEX card which is a bummer.

Oh my gosh I love it at Appel! Such wonderful nice people and great little salon! Anna seriously works miracles on my hair! I trust her completely and feel so lucky to have her as my hair dresser!

Claudette was amazing! I am visiting from Vermont for the first time and was in dire need of a great cut due I the lack of trust I have with VT stylists. This salon had great reviews specifically for Claudette. I have straight thin hair to just above the shoulder. I wanted a short bob with minimal styling needed and a side bang. Now three days later it looks just as good as it did when I walked out of the salon! Easy and perfect! She did a wet and dry cut noticing that my hair is unforgiving; as it shows everything. The cut is truly amazing! As a tourist/​possibly moving here the stylists collectively made me a list of must-​sees. The whole experience was top notch and I am so happy! Thank you!

Meghan is the best :) finding a stylist is always an investment in time and unfortunately can be at the expense of your hair’s health. So take my word: look no further!
Meghan is a great colorist and a fantastic stylist. She really listens to what you want and provides her recommendations and advice for what’s best with your skin tone and complexion. She’s also a pro at layers.
I’m a brunette who waivers between going light or dark with highlights or low lights and I usually opt for overall color. She’s fab and I recommend x 10!
Added bonus: she’s also fun to chat with so it makes the time in the chair fly

Claudette Markovic is great for cut and color. I have been going to claudette for years religiously every 6 – 7 weeks. I trust her completely and love our time together. She has a background in Design and know color! If you want a pro go to Claudette and the salon is really warm and friendly too!!!

First of all, I have severe hair anxiety, and I am VERY particular about my hair. Anna has restored my faith in this industry. I see her every week for a deep condition and a blowout, Going on 8 weeks now. I have an appt for a haircut next week, and am confident that I will leave feeling sexy, satisfied, and confident that I have selected the PERFECT stylist to make me look amazing. Since Anna has been styling my hair, men have come out of the woodwork asking for my number! Seriously, it is amazing. My blowout lasts 7 – 10 days. What a great spot! Friendly and helpful staff, great new look and a lot of fun chatting. The location is perfect and I really love the art they have on the walls. its just a great feel.

Appel Nouveau is, quite simply, hair heaven! Kirsten and Anna are positive and professional, creative and current. I have been a client of Kirsten’s for almost 6 years and I, too, have followed her through a number of different salons… I am so thrilled with Appel Nouveau, as it is a perfect reflection of Kirsten’s clean, chic, and beautiful view of the world.
Great location, easy parking, fun and relaxed atmosphere, AND perfect hair. I don’t actually look like Mila Kunis, but every time I leave Appel Nouveau I am told that at least once that day! Kirsten must cast a magic beauty spell over my whole head.
If you’re in the market for an incredible stylist who takes great pride in doing GREAT work each and every time, I HIGHLY recommend Appel Nouveau. If I could give them a 6^th or 7^th star, I would.

Appel is a beautiful new salon in Northwest, super modern, cozy and clean! I have been seeing Anna for years and have loved her so much that I have followed her every time she has moved. I have curly difficult hair and she is the only stylist I have ever found who knows how to properly cut, color and style it. She is always really open to my suggestions and always has good ideas of her own. She works magic with color and we are always trying new tweaks on my color and I’ve loved it every time. She is also a whiz with the blow dryer and my hair looks so fabulous when she blows it out!
I love love love Anna and I recommend her to everyone I meet!

Appel Nouveau Salon is a beautiful NEW salon. It’s everything you want in a hair salon… The atmosphere is very friendly, professional and positive. The stylists seem so happy to be there and seem to work so well together, unlike other places I’ve been. Also, it doesn’t hurt that you will leave looking stunning!
The location is in a very cool spot in Northwest Portland with great shops and trendy restaurants surrounding. They also have special parking available, so make sure you ask when you make an appointment.
I found Kirsten about a year ago and have been driving in from Bend every six weeks for color, highlights and haircut. Kirsten’s expertise in color is outstanding. I want my hair to look great without spending too much time on it. Kirsten was definitely a great help making that happen. I let her do whatever she thinks might look good, and it always turns out so great. I trust her implicitly… she is great at listening to her clients and making sure you leave happy! She is an amazing stylist and I love going to see her… not only do I leave with beautiful hair, but I have also had the chance to catch up. Did I mention I drive in from Bend every six weeks? It is well worth it!
The salon is super clean, has refreshments and plays cool music. The stylists are well-​trained and keep up-​to-​date and current, so everyone leaving always looks super. I highly recommend making an appointment at Appel Nouveau — I know you will be as pleased as I am!

This salon is beautiful! First, its modern, stylish interior is sleek and uncluttered. The beautiful bamboo flooring is reason enough to stop by for a look. Not to mention the clean design, great music, and friendly vibe which make you feel relaxed and welcome. Now for the substance: Kirsten Appel is the best colorist I’ve found and she’s extremely efficient. She has over ten years’ experience and is FAST. I usually get color plus highlights & a blow out, and I’m on my way in less than 90 minutes. I can’t say enough good things about Kirsten and this salon! Oh – and prices are extremely reasonable. What more could you want?
