I visited Azul Tequila today for the first time. They are one of only two remaining food carts in the pod at SE50th and Division. I had read in the news that an apartment building was going to be built on the site, so the other carts were already gone, and I wanted to try Azul Tequila before they were gone too. I ordered three tacos with my three favorite meats: pastor, carne asada, and pollo. The pastor was tasty.. .grilled real well and had pieces of pineapple in it. Carne asada consisted of narrow strips of beef.. .lean and was also nicely grilled. The pollo was supposed to be grilled too, according to the menu description, but it was not. It was kind of a soupy stew with chunks of chicken meat, so I figured the man got my order wrong. I didn’t really mind though, since it tasted good anyway. My tacos were $ 1.50 each, so I have no complaint about the price. Overall, these tacos were about average compared to other food cart tacos.

I’d like to preface this by saying I have spent most of my life in Texas, so I’ve had good tex-mex and mexican food. REALLY good. Azul Tequila definitely satiates that desire for some slightly-greasy & incredibly filling Mexican food warmth. Granted, it was my first day & first meal in Portland, but I was just really pleasantly surprised. The guacamole was really good & fresh, so I highly recommend that. I’m vegetarian and they had a handful of creative vegetarian options! I would’ve gone for the soy chorizo because that stuff is my jam, but instead I tried the Chipotle Soy Burrito and wasn’t disappointed! It was huge(and I don’t eat small portions, trust me) so I saved half of it for later. Super reasonable prices as well – a burrito I could eat for two meals for under $ 7? Unheard of. We didn’t have trouble finding parking on Division St. but that might’ve been because it was a weekday. They also have a tented, heated seating area for patrons of the food trucks in that little lot, so we were pretty comfortable even on an overcast winter’s day.

Glacially slow, and mediocre. We left hungry. The guy was out of our original choices(no chimichanga, and no bacon for a breakfast burrito — who doesn’t have bacon on a Saturday morning in Portland??), so we came up with alternatives. Then we waited half an hour for a burrito(that I couldn’t eat because it contained guacamole, which I had specifically asked him to leave off). We weren’t going to risk waiting any longer, so we went to Mi Mero Mole down the street, and split an enormous and tasty burrito. The guy running the truck doesn’t seem capable of handling several orders at once. Pity –I really would have like to have tried one of the highly rated breakfast burritos, but I value my time a little too much.

Yea, bring on the breakfast burritos. Maybe not quite the same as when I was living in ATX, but these are pretty good. Hot salsa = especially tasty.

Years ago when I attended Franklin High School, I was just about prisoner to terrible, cheap food. However, the days where I was able to break out the big bucks and escape the Taco Bell dollar menu, I would make a trip for some ACTUAL Mexican cuisine at Azul Tequila Mexican Taqueria! Now here comes the kicker, I have probably been here over 80 times or so, and have only had 4 or 5 items off the menu. Why? Because Azul Tequila offers the best breakfast burritos that I have ever had in my life! The two men who frequently work the cart are as friendly as they come, and good god do they know how to cook! Since then I have moved further away, but I still make the journey from Hillsboro to Portland whenever possible in order to get one of the heavenly breakfast burritos that are served up here daily. You might not get the big fancy restaurant experience because it is a food cart, but you definitely will get an authentic product that is top-notch, and for a much cheaper price than what you’d find elsewhere. Azul Tequila Mexican Taqueria has certainly cemented themselves as not only one of my favorite food carts, but one of my favorite places to get food in general!

I got a burrito from here recently. It was pretty cheap and tasted decent, but there are just so many good Mexican food carts around Portland, and I don’t feel like this one stands up to the best of them.

Decent taco food cart in one of my favorite pods in Portland. Great atmosphere! I got the 2 spicy tinga and one chicken fajitas. Unfortunately the salsa on the spicy tingas had a lot of liquid, which made the tacos completely soggy — never a good thing. The chicken fajitas taco was very flavorful and they give a good portion of meat. The corn tortillas are just out of a bag — not made fresh :(The corn tortilla is a very important element of a taco and if it’s not made by hand, it just AIN’T RIGHT.

I tried the steak tacos here, they were very good and reasonably priced. The meat was very flavorful, and there was no chewy gross meat mixed it, it was all prime ingredients. Salsa is spicy and tacos were made fresh to order. I want to try some more items from this food cart, very good food!

Love this place! Consistently good, decently priced, and great flavor! Pretty sure this was started by folks who were associated with Cha Cha Cha on Hawthorne before that place went downhill!

Good food and friendly service. We had two mission style burritos and a plate of beans and rice for our daughter for just under 15 dollars. That’s rare in this town for such good food and service with a smile. We will definitely dine again.

I always get the Burrito Mojado, a sauced burrito topped with a Mexican flag of pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole(especially good and comes with a lot of the menu choices gratis). Quick service and open at 11 am every day. Hot sauce not so hot, so if you like it spicy, be forewarned. Perhaps the jar of chile in oil outside the cart is hotter.

My burrito was half the size of your typical cart or taqueria burrito. The flavor was just okay. Service was inexplicably slow and weird. Seemed like the guy taking orders was on something. Just a straight up nope from me.

The pastor taco was perfect sweet and tangy. They use whole wheat tortillas for their burritos, a plus. They serve you on real plates, gotta love that. The spicy tinga chicken is tender and moist with a nice kick. The fish taco is a generous piece of grilled fish, NOTBREADED! Yay! Love that this is close to home. All super cheap with friendly people. Go!

Standard Mexican food cart — decent food but nothing extraordinary. I got the chicken burrito($ 5.25) and a steak taco($ 1.50) — both meats were underseasoned but okay. Burrito wasn’t very flavorful, somewhat bland. If they kicked the spice up a notch, or flavored their meats more it would be an easy 4 stars, good quick service. You can find $ 1 tacos that are more satisfying elsewhere, don’t waste your time on those here. A worthy spot for a quick, filling lunch for cheap, though. Cash only, ATM fee was $ 4, eek!

Wow, even open Sunday morning when I had a breakfast burrito craving. Had the Machaca Burrito that hit the spot. I had the Al Pastor Burrito the other day and while it was good, I had to snitch some Nachos from my buddys’ plate, they were awesome. Friendly folks in a friendly pod, I’ll be back again.

Let’s get down to it This place is pretty good. Make sure to read the menu fully. Not your average mexi fare, there is lots of variety and some surprises. The chorizo isn’t spicy for all the white folks. My half mex makes me spicy baby! I wouldn’t recommend the relleno burro, but the tacos were good, and the bite of burro I had of my uncles was tasty. Will be back.

Great prices. Only take cash(I think most of the carts here only do, except a maybe 1 or 2) Pollo tacos still don’t beat the ones I got at La Jarochita, but the taste was great. Wish the chicken was a little crisper, rather than soft.

Consistently excellent tacos, especially the fish which may be some of the best in town. Delicious pickled cabbage! And not deep fried… very good. Beware some of the taco have cheese(chile verde), but some people love that. We had the Pozole the other night and it was fantastic, and came with a couple extra tortillas with cheese and radishes and half a lime. The side of guacamole you get with chips and salsa is generous and really good. Only complaint — the salsas are nothing to write home about. Everything else is great.

The address here on Unilocal for Azul Tequila indicates it is on Division, but to clarify, Azul is in the A La Carts food pod at 50th and Ivon. Speaking of which, when did this pod spring up? It must have happened pretty quickly. I ordered from Azul because when I came here at noon today, it was one of the few carts open(though within a few minutes several other carts opened). I asked about the beverages they had posted on their menu — Jamaica, horchata and the tamarindo. Apologetically, the gal told me none of them were available. She said that, as a matter of fact, this was Azul’s first day in business. Perhaps true, because their food cart was shiny and new-looking(was this the replacement cart for the one that recently got stolen?). I started with three chorizo tacos. The cook had a little trouble following directions. I had asked for my chorizo tacos to-go. Instead, he handed them to me on a coral ceramic plate and asked me if I wanted them for here or to-go. It didn’t matter though, because I scarfed them down as I waited for my Torta Mexicana Clasica(Classic Mexican Sandwich) that I also ordered. I had wanted a Torta Cubana but they weren’t available. The chorizo tacos were very good, with both cooked white onion and fresh white onion. The chorizo was mild and balanced in its seasonings. I did not like the Mexican Torta. I had said no lettuce, and the gal repeated no lettuce to the cook, but he put lettuce on it anyway. It could have been worse though — a lot worse — if he had put cilantro on it. Besides the lettuce, the torta was a crazy mishmash of ham, bacon, chorizo, avocado, beef and beans. But what really turned me off was the odd cinnamon/clove/spice flavor. WTF was that?
