I do not have any relevant food allergies, real or imagagined, like what I like to blanket label as faux-celia, for those people who don’t know the difference between throwing a location into a tizzy checking labels because they actually can’t ingest a specific item compared to giving something up as a fad. I also do not have any outlandish culinary quirks, either of which would make visiting Bam Bam Bakery important in relation to any of the aforementioned instances. That being said, it’s convenient that this place is around for some of my friends and acquaintances who do have more specific dietary needs and preferences when we go out for a morning cuppa or somesuch afternoon meet up. Bam Bam has a great selection of beverages, snacks, desserts and light lunch items, without overwhelming your decision making skills. The staff are consistently personable, the pricing reasonable, atmosphere pleasantly cheery, regardless of what the weather outside may be. They make an all-too tempting tiramisu that is my downfall… every. time. It’s a great little spot, and if you haven’t yet, you should check it out.

Wow!!! Their cinnamon coffee cake is the best ever. This is a gluten free bakery, but you would NEVER guess that because they have mastered the art of baking so much that it is absolutely delicious, whether gluten free or not. Go there. Try it. You will not be disappointed!

I live in a small NH town with not one single dedicate gluten-free restaurant or bakery. It is such a relief to go to a place like Bam Bam Bakery. I am also vegan and have been able to get desserts which is rare for me. I do recommend going early in the day as the vegan items tend to sell out.

What a great find! This place is just adorable! It’s gluten free but don’t that that scare you away. I got the Macaron & it’s the best macaron I’ve ever had, drizzled w chocolate, it was decadent! The atmosphere is very inviting with tables overlooking the cobblestone streets for plenty of opportunity to people watch. It’s the perfect spot to have a sweet and a coffee & take in the sights of the OP!

We saw the add on TV and had to go check it out. My husband and son are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy lecithin-free. We have tried many«gluten-free» places, with little luck. We are EXTREMELYEXCITED that Bam Bam Bakery is the real deal! Mike and Seamus had the tamale pie for lunch and loved it. They were so overwhelmed with the amount of dessert goods to choose from that they just said«surprise me». So, I selected a traditional whoopie pie, a peanut butter sugar cookie, and a peanut butter/chocolate piece of fudge for them to sample. I haven’t seen smiles like that where food is involved in many years. Thank you, Bam Bam Bakery! Needless to say, we left with a box full of goodies. I don’t anticipate them lasting beyond the weekend. A huge shoutout to the friendly, helpful staff members as well. They are awesome! We live 45 mins away — but it’s worth the trip. We’ll be back!

Nice ambiance with delicious macchiato and coffee. Also had a cheesecake which was delicious and so filling and big that we had to take half of it to go.

Great service, very pleasant personality, had the Chicken chili and the vegetarian pizza that was available. The cappuccino was perfect creamy froth with the right amount of flavor. Sat on the couch facing Commercial Street. Offered Maine Root Sarsaparilla Beer as well. Perfect spot for a quick lunch and drink! Lots of sweet treats. Will try next time.

Couldn’t believe the entire store was gluten free! Delicious! Cool interior and probably the best Pumpkin Spice Latte I’ve ever had! Wish we had one in Pittsburgh!

It is impressive that when you walk up to the door, there is a warning sign out of respect for the gluten-free community: no outside food. Cool. Second point of coolness: they serve real beverages! Not just some coffee brewed and sitting in a carafe or huge vessel… Espresso drinks, yes! These drinks are legit keep you moving or jumpstart your day espresso beverages — not just some watery sugary coffee-flavored concoction. That in and of itself tells you this bakery is for real on several levels. They have savory food and loaves of bread, but this sweets fanatic doesn’t go to a bakery just because of that. Life is too short to save dessert and sweets for later! Gimme the goods, now– and boy do they give it to you. The displays at the counter behind the glass are so tempting. It’s amazing how they take care to label every item in terms of egg, soy, dairy and vegan. I tried all the vegan options, since there were only 4 that day. It’s a respectable showing. Really though, the amazing item was not the delicious favorite chocolate crinkle with the rich chocolate flavor hidden beneath a snowy layer of confectioners’ sugar… It was the funky monkey with the chocolate and vanilla drizzle that wowed me. If you have peanut allergies, sorry! This cookie had some coconut, too. The funky monkey has the best texture for a hearty cookie– vegan or not, gluten– free or not. If you didn’t know it, you wouldn’t care to know. If you did know it was vegan and gluten– free you’d bow down and pay homage to the baking skills needed to create that beautiful sweet piece of bliss. The vegan breakfast bomb and ginger molasses vegan cookie are also pretty respectable, but the flavor profiles are not likely to sway those not already predisposed to those ingredients and spices– still delish! Anyhow… Plenty of space to sit down and partake. Great space too– not crowded, nice feeling of relaxing with your tasty choices. The prices are fair, very fair. Eat one, and get a box for later… Or you’ll be sad!

Love the signs that specify special diet options. It’s why I came here! Great food and location. Service is a bit lackluster, but it is mid tourist season, so unsurprising. As an earthy type person in an earthy type café, I’d love to see a conscious decrease in their use of single-use plastics. Just asking customers consistently if they’re ‘here’ or ‘to go’ would make a big difference in the café’s use of plastic cups, lids, and straws.

When Bam Bam Bakery first opened, I had a horrible experience there. This was in 2011. The staff was rude and all over the place, the baked goods were dry like sand and flavorless, and the atmosphere didn’t seem all that welcoming. With such a bad first impression I saw no reason in ever going back. Until recently… and now I can’t seem to stop coming here! It just goes to show you… while you«never get a second chance to make a first impression»(or however that quote goes), sometimes your first impression — especially of a restaurant during their opening week — might just be entirely wrong. So suck it up, and go back at a more appropriate time. Lesson learned. Bam Bam Bakery offers gluten-free goodies for everyone. It’s on a great corner on Commercial Street in downtown Old Port, just outside the hubhub of the usual craziness. The bakery is rustic feeling with their wooden tables and has big, sunny windows. The ordering/paying process can be a bit confusing, the staff — I feel — is used to this and tries to make your experience as effortless as possible. Upon my re-introduction to the place I had an iced coffee and a chocolate-cherry scone(which was pretty good, but I thought could have used more cherry icing) that was literally the size of a birthday cake. Not a piece. The whole thing. All for about $ 5. On my most recent trip I had one of their Thai Iced Tea with soy and a artichoke, spinach, ricotta savory roll/strata type thing. All for about $ 7. WHAT?! Where are these amazing prices even coming from?! ESPECIALLY at a gluten-free bakery. ESPECIALLY in Portland, ME. Insane. I love it. Anyway, both things I ordered were pretty good, though I thought the Thai Iced Tea needed sugar and the strata type thing needed salt. Regardless of these insanely small, super personal-to-me misses… I’m a fan. I want to go back. As in right now. There’s SOMUCH on the menu I want to try. Every time I’m in there, I regret not getting more — which sounds so gluttonous, I know, but it’s true. I’m so blown away at the exceptional job they do about offering vegan and vegetarian selections, too. Thanks for that! And thanks for always updating your social media with today’s selection of soups, pizzas, and more. You stay current, you’re relevant, and you make some darn good stuff!

Best priced coffee in town! I haven’t eaten there yet, so I can’t give them 5 stars yet. ;) After spending $ 3.50 for a very small iced regular old coffee at Tandem yesterday, I just had to sing the praises of fairly priced coffee. Here, here Bam Bam!

I’m not a gluten-free person, but while in Portland we passed by Bam Bam and it looked so good, we knew we had to stop in for a bit! And you know what, we couldn’t tell that our food was gluten-free at all! We got some bread, a whoopie pie(when in Maine…), and coffee. Thumbs up for all of the above! Friendly service, and reasonably fast. They have comfy seating areas as well as a nice little kid’s nook with toys and an easel in the back by the bathrooms. Just wish it stayed open later — we could have stayed here for much longer!

This little earthy place is very good considering what you are getting for the price. The food and drink is all natural and gluten free, don’t come here if u are looking for high fructose corn syrup and saccharin. It is not a touristy spot but it’s definitely worth a visit if u are in portland.

My hubby and I stopped into this place for a sweet treat. I had a chocolate cupcake that was the most moist cake I have ever eaten. My husband had a fig bar that he said was really good as well. We are not gluten-free but we will be visiting this place again!

Thinking about going to Bam Bam? Say yes yes! This is my go to coffee shop given how close in proximity it is to my office. They even serve my hometown brew, Rock City Coffee! Their treats are delicious and they even have lunch! The soups are good and come with a gluten free roll. I’ve also heard great things about their quiche. They also serve gluten free pizza and it usually gets swiped up before 2 so make sure to get it early! Their desserts always look so amazing and their scones are HUGE! I’ve had hit or miss service but the last couple of times have been stellar! I definitely recommend this place, good vibe, good coffee and good atmosphere.

Tastes great and gluten free, YESPLEASE! Look, I have real life allergies. While I understand that some people avoid gluten or other ingredients for a personal lifestyle choice, I will actually break out in hives if I eat the wrong thing(or if you rub avocado on me, but that’s a different story!). I am willing to sacrifice to the benedryl gods on occasion for a fancy meal(infrequent but yes), I try to maintain a firm hold on what I eat so that I am not awkwardly itching for the rest of the day. After that awkward paragraph… Bam Bam Bakery makes wheat free delicious baked goods. So delicious that when I brought some home to save for later, my father and my brother(not allergy sufferers) helped themselves and didn’t even realize that it was gluten free(they thought it was delicious as well). It doesn’t taste like cardboard or have that weird aftertaste that a lot of modified recipes are left with, but rather tastes like well crafted goodness. I really appreciated that their food is clearly labelled and staff understands allergies, so they were able to answer any questions without the eyeroll that you get at some places when you ask about ingredients. It is clear that there is great customer service! Overall, I will definitely be back for more and I know my non-allergy family will be too!

I’d been getting their vegan, gluten-free ginger cookies at Local Sprouts for ages but somehow never actually went into the real location until this week. The entire bakery is gluten-free and they’re good about other allergens. What this means in practical terms is that there’s vegan stuff, there’s dairy-free stuff, there’s soy-free stuff, there’s stuff that’s vegan and soy-free, there’s lots of options. If you have questions, they will pull out a book of ingredients and answer them. They have all kinds of sweet treats, some savory treats, and loaves of fresh bread, with a schedule posted for what kinds of bread they have on what days of the week. There are teas and cider and other beverages. The tea is Republic of Tea brand. The space is pleasant, with good natural light and a nice display for the baked goods. Yay!

I can say I knew Bevin when… She was working out of her house. I remember walking up the stairs to get my first birthday cake made by her. At a time when dairy free wasn’t popular she had us covered… And it was in delicious frosting. The addition of the store front has really allowed her to spread her wings. Pizza, soups, pot pie, shepherd’s pie, sweet and savory bread and rolls that are fresh and soft and moist. Then there are the sweet treats. Hello peanut butter bar, whoopie pie, cookies, cupcakes and more! The topper for me… Thai iced tea with soy. Not to be missed. The King’s Head has her rolls for their burgers! Please be aware that since many of her customers have gluten allergies she asks that you do not bring those sort if items in to the store. You are welcome to sit and enjoy a game, chat with friends and enjoy the lovely space. Bam Bam also separates their trash and has convenient sections for you to differentiate from trash, recycle and compost. And on a special note: Bevin and her crew were nice enough to donate treats to the Tour de Cure event-a fundraiser for Diabetes. Her donation meant that after we burned through calories cycling, those of us who are GF and DF had options for dessert.
