One word: FINALLY. I recently moved to Portland and tried a variety of Portland’s «acclaimed» ice cream/gelato places and was honestly disappointed. They’re weren’t bad by any means, but they were not impressive. I can FINALLY say that I’ve found an establishment that has *WOWED* me. The service is excellent. The young woman let me try a couple of different flavors until I finally settled on a split between lemon sorbet and cream flavor(her excellent recommendation!). It was perfect. I mean just perfect. The flavors were so perfectly balanced; delicate, creamy, absolutely delicious. Cannot wait until I’m in NE Portland again!

Our family visits Bassotto Gelateria whenever we are in Portland. I have not personally tried the gelato, but my family members absolutely love it. I usually order a hot mocha and I can compare it to the better mochas that are made in the espresso capital of the USA. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and the prices are unbelievably affordable. This is a small shop next to a Mexican restaurant in the middle of a suburban area. It is worth the drive, although there is only street parking-which is free.

Excellent coffee and breakfasts. I literally crave their egg and prosciutto bagels on a Sunday morning. Staff are awesome and friendly and they’re militant about customers not bussing their own tables, which makes me feel like I’m at my grandma’s house — never a bad thing :)

Wish they had more parking, the location is to blame. Super tasty gelato. Cherry and the chocolate hazelnut were awesome!!!

What I consumed — chocolate and cream gelato! Food Quality — hands-down the best gelato I’ve ever had! I highly recommend this place! Environment — Great environment, there’s even some seating outside. This would be a great place to go on a nice day! Service — The service was great! I sampled a few flavors and didn’t have any problems. Appearance — everything seemed clean and orderly! Overall — I give this place five stars! It has everything you would want in a neighborhood gelato Spot!

Yummo. They have moved me to the other side… no more ice cream when gelato is an option! Every visit to Portland you’ll see us!

What do you do when you’re a dachshund devotee and gelato aficionado? Apparently, you open one of Portland’s best gelato shops and call it Bassotto Gelateria because dachshund in Italian is Bassotto and Gelateria sounds way creamier and cooler than ice cream shoppe. Sure the guys behind the counter are smooth and their endless temptations of samples are sweet, but there are three dreamier reasons I really love Bassotto Gelateria. Uno. Portland Fog Gelato The name is inescapable, The flavor is irresistible. It’s a velvety blend of Lavender and Earl Grey Tea from Portland’s own Jasmine Pearl Tea Company. Since flavors change daily, you’ll soon realize that the best days are Portland Fog days. Due. Black Sesame Gelato Once you go with Black Sesame there is no going back to other flavors. Finding a flavor like this distinctive dark toasty and nutty gelato is the reason you choose a small local shop that makes their own dream creams. Tre. Peanut Butter Stracciatella Gelato Two great tastes that taste great together! It’s the creamiest combination of peanut butter and chocolate you’ll find … and love. Bassotto Gelateria is more than just an ice cream dessert shop founded by dachshund dog lovers. It’s Portland’s best premium quality gelato café combining yummy Italian methods with quality local ingredients.

I work not far away & love this place! The place is owned by a couple, and all the gelatos are freshly made by the owner himself. The flavors change based on the season. They also have a great assortment of sandwiches and soups, & I love having lunch here. The coffee is also great, as is the service!

I’ve now had a chance to try to their lattes and bagels, and I am SO happy I stopped here for something other than gelato(which is delicious). Perfect soy hazelnut latte, and I may be addicted to their sea salt/herb bagels. Such an incredible combination, I haven’t really tasted a bagel like this before. Such great friendly service and I couldn’t be happier that my neighborhood has such a wonderful spot to stop for coffee and go back later for gelato, or maybe do both in the morning, who knows? I know there are other good gelato places in Portland, but if you love gelato, you should seriously stop here. The owner let me try«Portland Fog» the other day because I asked about it, and it was truly delicious. He described is as a creamy Earl Gray, and I have to say, it had such a great smooth, subtle flavor. I love how I always think I want one thing when I go in, but I end of loving another random flavor(hello Black Sesame). You should seriously give this place a try.

Umm hello delicious. I realize Portland is obsessed with its innumerable ice cream shops(which I agree are excellent), but I highly recommend expanding your sweet tooth and waist line at this Gelateria. Its really fantastic! Located on this little corner slice of food heaven on Dekum(right next to Tamale Boy) the gelato here is reminiscent of that which I devoured in Italy(yes its that good). Haven’t tried any of the food offerings, but its a cute sit down café with a few outdoor tables to boot as well. Really just go here…

Been here twice now and I want to come back. Freshly made gelato. So good. All their flavors are simple and awesome. They don’t have random things like baked potato and poop ice cream like salt n straw but it’s still good.

Really good gelato in NE. The prices are fantastic and they have coffee and breakfast foods if you’re in the mood for something else. My favorite is the lemon gelato next to the strawberry. The flavor are on point and the people working the counter are super nice and never make you feel rushed or bad for trying more than one flavor. Will definitely be back.

Great café with excellent bagels. I had the marionberry chèvre and it was very good. Like a creamy jam spread. The coffee hit the spot. Didn’t have the gelato or panini. That’ll be for the next visit. :) Oh yeah– it’s walking distance from our Airbnb, so that’s an added bonus!

We were stumbling out of tamale boy craving some dessert when we realized dessert was next door! Hands on owners are making a great quality fresh product, what’s not to love? Environment is very clean on both sides of the counter which my wife and I appreciate a lot. Outdoor seating is nice now that the weather is heating up. The panini sandwich was also excellent. I hope Basotto will stick around because they are a wonderful complement to the neighborhood. Great gelato! Cheers!

The creamiest treat ever! Nom, nom, nooom! The gelato is outstanding, but I think the star of the show is their sorbets. They taste so incredibly fresh and they are so creamy, just like ice cream. The mango has been my favorite so far. They feature new flavors and I can’t wait to see what yummy ones they come up with for summer.

Today at the annual Kenton street fair, in warm weather(too warm for me), there were many types of foods and desserts to choose from. Since it was warm though, we were looking for cold drinks and snacks. Tucked away by the churro truck and the other American cuisines was the cart selling gelato. Lucky to have spotted him, he just politely stood and waited. Many other vendors were a bit more in-your-face about their food and wares. I had the chocolate hazelnut gelato. It was delicious! For funzies I asked if there’s anything he’d like to tell my friends and I about gelato. He told us about how they attain the texture, flavor(s) and how/why it stacks up so well against ice cream. He also explained that his gelato is always fresh, including what we were enjoying from the cart. There where three types of gelato according to the sign. They each came with a tasty cookie to be dipped. Another thing is, according to the lovely gentleman that took the time to put up with my touristy questions, the gelateria location shares a patio with a winery and a Mexican restaurant Allow me to reiterate, Mexican food and wine then gelato. Hello date night.

We live in San Diego, and I only wish they were local to us! In our brief week we went three times, including once for coffee/brunch(bagel sandwiches). They make some of the best gelato I’ve ever had. They are rich and dense without being heavy(if that contradiction makes sense). The flavors are amazingly pure and true, which is so often NOT the case. The lemon sorbet in particular is amazing(and I’m not much of a sorbet person). And the Portland Fog(Earl Grey tea and lavender) was very nice as an outside-the-box flavor(and it turned us on to Jasmine Pearl tea, from where we brought some teas back to San Diego). Despite my personal aversion to chocolate/orange combinations, the stracciatella laced with hints of orange was a new twist on an old flavor that worked really, really well. We also enjoyed the sgroppino one evening – fun drink that is amazing lightweight and airy in terms of mouthfeel, and has a great balance of flavors. Their neighborhood is lucky to have them, but there gelato is so good I would say that they are worth a trip no matter where you live in Portland.

A slice of italy on Dekum street. Its far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but definitely worth the drive. I chatted with the friendly owner Don, and he definitely knows how to make some authentic gelato. I tried all the flavors, and went with the hazelnut chocolate and eggnog in the end. They were two scoops of creamy deliciousness. They make many more flavors in summer obviously so I will go and check them out again. They have started an Italian café along with the gelato shop and the menu looks very interesting, might stop by sooner than summer to try out one of their bagels or paninis.
