Ben & Jerry’s Uptown Center

Since when did an ice cream cone become $ 4.50? And that’s for a small! We went up here last night to get a cone, but upon realizing the prices and doing some quick math, we realized that we could get nearly 3 pints at Fred Meyer down the street for the price of two cones with a single scoop. Considering that a single pint could probably fill up to 4 cones, we could not bring ourselves to waste that kind of money. Luckily for us, we have a waffle cone maker, but if you didn’t, you could still just purchase a plain waffle cone (I didn’t check the price on plain waffle cones, but they’re probably 75 cents to a $ 1) and then walk to Freddy’s and buy yourself some pints, which will provide you with an ice cream treat for an additional 2 – 3 nights. Yeah — sometimes you have to pay a little for service, and that wonderful smell in ice cream shops is hard to pass up, but honestly it’s around a 300% markup, and that’s ridiculous.

Ben and Jerry’s has some of the best ice cream for a national chain, for this chocoholic anyhow. It is my go-​to choice at this moment, as I was not so impressed with the saltnstraw chocolate or the other ice cream shop on 21^st Ave (I think?). Of course, taste is a difficult thing to argue about.
The shop enjoys a great location, free parking, and has been surprisingly empty. On the other hand, buying fresh cones is a rather expensive habit when you know you can purchase the prepped quarts for half the price. On my list: to try a chocolate shake!
The staff, though I have yet to experience the same person behind the counter, is nice and helpful. When my grandson dropped his ice cream cone, she immediately offered him a new substitute: reAlly sweet!

I was excited for Free Cone Day and decided to go after dinner. I checked online to see what time they were open till and it said 9pm, it was 7:30pm so I had time. I walked over there a few blocks away and the line was pretty long. I got in line and waited for a couple minutes until the girls in front of us showed us a sign that said «end of the line» and said that the Ben & Jerry’s employees gave it to them. It was 7:45pm and apparently they don’t close at 9, but they close at 8. So we had to leave even though we had just missed the end and had read that they are open till 9pm. I was pretty mad considering I would have been willing to pay for ice cream. It wasn’t necessarily the free ice cream I cared about but I had been dying to try Jimmy Fallon’s flavor. They turned away paying customers and I will probably not be back there. I went to Salt & Straw after since I was craving ice cream and they had excellent customer service, so I will be choosing them over Ben & Jerry’s in the future.

I love free cone day. But I hadn’t been in years. And the the last time I tried, the line was so darn long, I just couldn’t do it! This time, I chose what I thought would be the least populated of the B & Js and I went even before they opened. A brilliant plan it was! We waited in line for about 15 minutes on a glorious sunny day, and once the line started going, it was only another 5. I got the salted caramel option which was wonderful. But that new flavor with potato chips has me thinking I need to go back!
I declare free cone day the new groundhog day. If it’s sunny on free cone day, then summer’s a-​coming!

For the price of a grocery store pint you can get a good sized cone, which is fun if you want to try some new flavors but if your going in for your favorite or a classic like Chunky Monkey, you might just want to stick to the store.
If your hell bent on getting a cone, this is by far my favorite location as they have an actual parking lot and you can easily walk over to the nearby shops to browse wow you enjoy your scoop.
Keep an eye out for the yearly free cone day and always tip your scooper :)

Free cone day! I love Ben and Jerry’s ice creams, values, and way of doing business. Really a classy company with a great product. I will continue I support this company for this reason. Plus… you can’t beat free ice cream.
While I think salt n straw may have this place beat in terms of tastiest ice cream ever, this is a close second and the best mass produced ice cream by far.

How can I not like somewhere that gives me a buy one, get one free coupon after my purchase?! Woo hoo!
LIKES: Staff here is friendly. They have my coconut 7 layer ice cream. Lots of flavors to choose from. More sherberts/​sorbets now!
DISLIKES: Not much in the ways of seating. Crazy loud cow bell on the door. Where is my Half baked or Irish flavors??? Kind of ‘spensive.

First of all, the Spumoni is the best spumoni I’ve ever had and I consider myself an expert on Spumoni! It was the perfect blend of cherries, nuts, and chocolate chunks, along with the ice cream flavors.
Now, the Cherry Garcia? Hmm, maybe it was a bad batch, but can they really make a bad batch after all these years? It was awful. Grainy, grainy, grainy, is the only way I can describe it.

What can be bad about Ben and Jerrys? If you order a sundae, you’d better like whipped cream A LOT!

The tweens that flock here after dance lessons got a shock last fall when a staff member walked over and said, «If you continue to make this much noise, I’m going to call the police!» Dear Ben and Jerry’s staff: Try asking nicely. These chatty 12 and 13-​year olds will be back this summer on walks with their friends and their dance classes start up again in the fall. They have cash in their pockets, or at least their moms and dads who are hovering in the background, do. Cash which they can easily take to a nearby frozen yogurt place.
Other than the panicky staff, the place is what you’d expect from a chain, serving pretty good premium ice cream products.

This place is as it should be for a national franchise — good service, fairly clean store, coolers kept at the appropriate temperature.
The ice cream, of course, is delicious, as it is wherever one buys it.
This review is intended to notify others that this particular branch of Ben and Jerry’s has no particular pitfalls or advantages. Enjoy a cone and the whimsical names of the tasty ice cream!

This place gets credit for each of my kids first ice cream cones. Right around their first birthdays (i like to start their sugar addictions early) we head over here and let them pick what they want. I think they all went with chocolate because I can remember them all being covered in some sticky brown sugary substance after about 5 minutes. I didn’t really pay attention because I was devouring a big double scoop of chocolate fudge brownie in a huge waffle cone and wasn’t about to stop to look around until I was done. I would eat here daily if my wife would let me! Best damn icecream around!

This place pisses me off. This location used to be a Baskin Robbins & in my opinion Baskin Robbins is one billion times better than any crappy garcia or monkey poo icecream. Any place that can put gummy worms on Daquri Ice ice cream is the shiznit… hands down… end of discussion!

This is a long, rambling review with anecdotes, but you can see a cliff notes-​type version at the end.
My husband and I sometimes come to this Ben & Jerry’s after work. We skipped free cone day here, though, because of the long line and we didn’t have time time wait. bummer.
We did get a shake here this week because I was also purchasing a pint lock (like a bike lock, but for your pint — so no one steals your ice cream) for my cousin for mother’s day. (She’s an awesome single mom with two great kids!) It took a long time to decide because my husband and I have different tastes. It just seemed too expensive to get two treats — shakes are $ 4.50 for a small or $ 4.95 — so we had to come up with something to share. Most of the sundaes are also in that price range.
I like the décor — bright colors, cows and cartoon-​y nostalgic tables. I also like the little accessories you can buy like t-​shirts, ice cream-​flavored lip gloss and the aforementioned pint lock.
We got a half-​baked shake which was lovely — with skim milk and whipped cream. (Weird, I know, but it made me feel better about the calories without sacrificing the feeling of indulgence in an afternoon treat.)
My only beef with the shakes here are the teeny-​tiny straws. They really need Jack-​in-​the-​Box-​sized straws so I’m not spearing pieces of cookies dough with the skinny straw at the end.
Sundaes are always good and usually also shared the two of us. But I think overall, I prefer Baskin-​Robbins. Best scoop ice cream place is Tillamook Creamery, but that’s all the way in Tillamook.

Think it is too pricey.

Ben and Jerry’s…Ben and Jerry’s…amazing, indescribable, perfect, memorizing, orgasmic, delightful…(See Laura N.‘s review below for additional adjectives people use to describe this over-​rated ice cream shop)
I’m not going to lie that Ben & Jerry’s is a pretty good ice cream. My best friend Heather and I dated them for awhile when we first turned 21. The relationship was good. 1:00 AM walks to 7 – 11 to pick up an over-​priced pint of that night’s sinful indulgence that we only allowed ourselves when our inhibitions were completely gone. That’s what Ben & Jerry are best for. They’re really there whenever you need them.
Yet, I’m not a huge fan of ice hard ice cream, and that’s what you get at the Ben & Jerry’s shop. The ice cream is hard as a rock, scoops are a little small, the prices are a little high, but the taste is never lacking. Great flavors, regardless of your craving and truly a delightful indulgence.
So meet in the middle I say, grab it from the store and keep a pint hidden in the freezer. You can let it soften up, eat as much as you want and put it away before you have to pull out the fat jeans from under the bed.

Both of these are merely false misconceptions — because either way, sometimes a girl’s gotta skip the healthy frozen yogurt options and indulge in the «hard stuff». Thank God for the store up the street so I can do it in image of style!

Is $ 4.75 too much to spend for a 2-​scoop sundae? Probably.
Is it STILL too much once you realize it’s more than enough for two people? Perhaps not.
Does Ben & Jerry’s straight from a Ben & Jerry’s store taste somehow one million times better than it does out of the pint you bought at Albertson’s? Definitely.
Can you explain why an ice cream shop would close at 9pm during the warmest months of the year? No.
So, a group of us decided to head here the other night after a birthday dinner followed by the presentation of a dessert menu from which nothing jumped out at any of us. Hence, ice cream.
The guy who took our order seemed to hate his job and clearly wanted to see our crew of 30-​somethings disappear. They could use some more outdoor seating besides the two benches. I feel for the dozen or so people who missed their window that night… walking all the way up to the lit glass doors at 9:02, only to realize, sadly, that there was no ice cream to be had at such an hour.
But let me tell you, I didn’t even know I wanted ice cream until I went with the flow of the group and got some. I ordered a turtle ice cream sundae and it was basically *amazing*.
$ 4.75 well spent, my friends. Well spent.
