Best Western Inn at the Meadows

Should be called the Worst Western. Just a heads up to anybody considering staying here this place is located in a VERY HIGH CRIME RATE AREA. we had expensive and heavy equipment stolen out of our work truck within minutes of checking in. This happened in broad daylight around 3:30 in the afternoon with a security camera pointed directly at our truck. Called the cops who were more helpful than the hotel staff, but unfortunately nothing could be done as their video system is very low quality and antiquated and couldn’t make anything out on it. I would recommend this hotel if you like having stuff stolen out of your vehicle, if you like staying next door to homeless camps or I assume it might be a good place to score drugs from any number of the shady looking characters sitting on the sidewalks nearby.

This does not seem like a three and a half star restaurant to me. Staff is very helpful and friendly, always greeted us when we were coming and going. The room was in tip top condition and extremely clean. The pillows were heavenly, sooo soft (if you like that which I do). Comfortable mattress and perfect thickness linens as well. Our bedside table light wasn’t working, when I phoned the front desk they sent someone up right away. It was unplugged, hahaha. :-) No funky smells either, I feel like that’s common at hotels).
The drive into the city was only 10 – 15 minutes so it was worth it for the money we saved. It wasn’t cheap but compared to the accommodations in the city it was a good deal. The room came with a mini fridge, coffee maker and microwave, we didn’t discover the microwave till we were leaving and doing a sweep through to make sure we had all of our possessions. The microwave is in a cabinet in the dresser! I would stay here again.

This hotel was beautiful inside and out. We got a great rate or I’d have stayed elsewhere. Its near a busy freeway so it can be a bit loud.
I’ll agree that the walls are paper thin, the room next to us was banging on the wall due to my son being a busy 5 year old and a bit loud for them. It seemed OK volume to us.
Free breakfast, but we did not partake. I loved the feel and vibe of the room. The furniture was nice and I LOVE the bathroom!
Cons: Seedy area of town, people trying to sell you jewelry in the parking lot.
Pros: Close to food (drive thru and sit down), right off the freeway, recently updated

The location is near the freeway and it is loud. There was no fence around the property and it was a bit on the scary side at night because I saw numerous people walking behind and around the hotel that were obviously NOT guests. There was a litter filled empty lot in front of the hotel that made it difficult to walk freely around in a safe manner.
The hotel must have been updated recently, but not 100% so. The lobby and front area has new furniture, paint, and fixtures. Our room was down the long dingy hallway with stained carpet. Our room was updated and the bathroom was very spacious. The hardwood floors made walking around extra noisy and slippery. Speaking of noise– I heard the neighbor next door talking loudly and the upstairs neighbor walking around. The heated pool was outside and it was covered. When we needed to use it, we had to ask a staff member to take the tarp off.
Breakfast was hot and tasty with many options.
I would not stay here again or recommend it to others. There has to be safer options out there.

Purchased a 2 night stay off Groupon. The day before my trip I decided to look up their Unilocal page. I seen all the negative reviews and I instantly became nervous so I gave them a call immediately to make sure they had my reservation down. The gentleman who answered the phone was very nice and assured me that everything was good to go.
Located very close to the airport (and every where else we wanted to go; loved it!) check in process was so quick and easy. Pleasant staff. Only complaint would be the smell of our room. Had a funky musky smell. Aside from that, I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Portland.

I got a groupon deal for 3 nights for our weekend get away to Portland. A month or so prior I inquired about their airport shuttle and set up to be picked up Friday night. We were picked up with no issues and checked in around 9:45pm. The room was nice; comfy bed, directv, fridge and microwave. This hotel is in walking distance to the max stop which was great since we used this to get around the duration of our trip. There are a couple restaurants in the same lot and also a Walmart and dicks sporting goods in a 5 min walking distance. The walk to the max station is about 10 minutes and although it might seem a little sketch we felt safe walking back even after midnight. We checked out the breakfast one morning and there was a huge selection (better than I’ve seen at other best westerns). I would stay here if I come back to Portland since it’s definitely a cheaper option compared to prices downtown. Shuttle hours run from 5am to 10pm and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. If you have an early flight (6:40am like we did) I suggest maybe calling a cab since the lines at the airport were insanely long and we were on the verge of missing our flight!

I stayed here for a few days on business for a convention at the local expo center. On the outside the place doesn’t look too inviting but once you walk in that changes quick. The hotel is modern as it can be and more then accommodating. Once I got to my room I was even more impressed with the space and cleanliness of it all. One shining part is that red leather chair and ottoman, nice touch of flare. All in all this room was great with great amenities around it. The light rail is within walking distance and it’s close enough to everything else. The staff is on point with the service as well.

Parking: Free parking out front — tons of it.
Lobby: Looks like it was furnished by IKEA.
Room: It’s been renovated — but you can still see the datedness through the new coat of paint, especially in the bathroom. Bed was clean.
Location: fairly convenient, not far from downtown
Outside stinks — it’s next to some recycling plant and I had to hold my breath running back and forth from the car to the hotel.
Food: Breakfast is probably on the lower end of the Best Westerns that I’ve been to.
Recommendation: I’d stay elsewhere next time.

They are renovating the hotel so there were boxes in the hall way, which was a bit of an eye sore, but the workers weren’t noisy during the day or anything so it didn’t bother us.
I got a great deal on Groupon but it looks like they have good deals aside from Groupon as well.

Also, complete bait-​and-​switch regarding their groupon offer. (read below). So be aware.
We were planning a 4 day trip to Portland to check out the city and see what all the hype was about; we planned on driving in from SF and make a road trip out of it. A trip that would’ve normally taken +/​-​9 hours turned into a 13 hour trip due to traffic and rain at night. If you know this route, it wasn’t fun at all. We were stoked to finally get to our hotel at 4:30 am to check in, crawl into a warm bed and get on with our lives.
Best Western had other plans for us.
See, we purchased a groupon deal 2 weeks prior for two nights for $ 150 … we read all of the fine prints inside and out and bought it right away. We had secured room for two nights with said deal yet when we get to the check in, the front desk clerk seemed clueless as to who we were, had no idea about a groupon deal and was just overall rude. We had confirmation numbers, we had names… everything. She then stated that our order was never processed because groupon sent in the request too late (two weeks!?) and their hotel was booked up (BS) so we were shit out of luck. She gave us a number to another hotel and sent us on our way… homeless in Portland at 5am after being awake almost 24 hours.
We called groupon and raised hell. Groupon pulled strings on their end to remedy the situation… Which took hours of our time that we were supposed to be enjoying on vacation. Again, we were promised two nights (wed-​thurs) and they assured us they had communicated this ordeal with the hotel. Although frustrated, we were just glad it was all behind us so we could handle the situation.
Wrong.
We checked in and the clerk was well aware of our situation and upgraded us to an executive suite for two nights for our troubles. This was a nice gesture and we went up to get situated. Well, so we thought. About 20 minutes into relaxing and unwinding, we get a phone call from the manager stating that we only get one night as we checked in past the cut off time on our first night (4:30am) causing us to be a «no show» in their system. Now, bear in mind, we have combed the fine print with groupon prior to the booking and even more so after this fiasco and it says NOTHING about cut-​off times. Nothing. Again, frustrated beyond belief we escalate this situation to groupon and management to just honor the coupon and let us sleep in peace. If we were told we were past the check in time by the original clerk, this could’ve all been avoided… But instead, we weren’t. in fact, she blamed everything on groupon. Arthur Lee was in communication with us and did nothing to remedy the situation except «offer» us a «discounted» rate on the room for another night. Yeah, I bet you will. We are already out of pocket double that we budgeted due to this crap and could not even enjoy the first 2 days of our trip because we were stressing about where we were going to sleep. Had we known about this «check in cut off time», we would’ve planned our departure accordingly.
The end result is that its «standard hotel timing» yet was not listed on the groupon. I do know that groupons and all third party deals are put together with the hotel, so they should be held accountable for not putting anything in the fine print regarding check in/​out times, not just assume all potential guests know «standard hotel procedure»; neither of us have worked in hotels! All we asked for was to give us the nights that we paid for, not some tacky executive suite. Hell, we weren’t even trying to scam the hotel… we had paper trail of receipts, emails from groupon and an email chain from Albert where he is laughably unhelpful and condescending. There is zero accountability from the desk clerks to Albert Lee, where they would rather make a buck and put the guests out on to the street. Once we checked into our room, we signed a contract securing two nights in our room… only to have Albert breach the contract within 20 minutes.
The groupon deal is to draw people in, only to be pushed off of the list completely when non-​groupon guests book rooms allowing them to point the finger at groupon and not take ownership of their own internal problems. Classic bait and switch.
At the end of the day, groupon gave us half a credit back for our voucher and we found an amazing AirBNB downtown WAY cheaper and nicer than this dump. Hell, even the executive suite was crap, the whole floor was under construction and the breakfast tasted like bland jail food. What a disgrace to the Best Western brand; we vow to never stay with the brand again and we travel very often.

, etc)… so be aware. their contract should be suspended for unethical business practices.

I am giving it a 3 because it is kind of a mess due to remodeling going on. There is boxes sitting all over in the hallways and a ton of stuff all over the path to the outdoor hot tub. Our room was clean and modern but could use some new carpet. TV was great and the bed was to firm for me. But a nice room over all. Love the free WiFi and their breakfast is awesome ! Had a pancake machine, eggs, sausage, potatoes, fruits, cereal and other stuff. Staff was very nice. I would stay here again. Just not until the remodel is over. Oh and the shower head sucked. No pressure at all. Rooms were pretty quiet unless the train went by honking. Close to the max train line which is a plus.

Room is beautiful.
Front desk receptionist has zero personality… unless pretentious is a personality.
Stay here only if you have no intention of sleeping, but enjoy listening to other guests’ televisions and every word being said in the room next door because the only thing the walls are good for is holding up the ceilings.
Walk quickly to and from your car; the area is sketchy. I hope my car will still be there tomorrow morning.
SO happy that we’re spending the rest of our time here at a different hotel!

Actually 1.5 stars, half a star more given for the rooms. Stayed here for 3 nights.
Staff: UNFRIENDLY… Not a single smile or greeting! (* See Below)
Rooms: Decent, housekeeping does a good job. We stayed on the second floor where you can hear people walking above you all day and night.
Breakfast: Nasty… Pancakes like rubber, fruit is old, scrambled eggs (meh), sausage links (old and dried out). Dining room tables were overcrowded and room had more boxes lining the walls, crowding the rooms even more.

When we first entered the hotel all I got from the front desk clerk (Mike) was «You have a reservation?» and «You with a group?». No hello or Hi… I basically stood there waiting for him to finish shuffling his papers until he finally acknowledged me. This was around 12:15 at night night might I add…
Then Mike looks into the system and tells me that I don’t have a reservation and that I had cancelled earlier. I had to then explain that I had made 2 reservations for different dates but that 1 of them was still confirmed. I had booked through
and showed him my confirmation. «This is like the worst day this could happen! I’m all booked, I have no rooms available!» This was said under his breath many times after that, including MANY exasperated sighs.
Long story short: I called
and my rep Vicky handled everything after that. Thank goodness! Apology given to Vicky from Mike that my reservation was non-​existent. No apology was ever given to me until the very end when Mike was able to magically find us a room in the «fully booked» hotel, and we had signed the contract for our stay. Seeming that he wasn’t very good at handling this type of situation, I didn’t want to point out how rude and unwelcome he had made myself and my family feel. I kind of almost felt sorry for him. But that is still no excuse for the way it was handled. Management needs to definitely have a talk with staff about their customer service skills…

This place is clean and updated. Everything went well during my stay at this Best Western, except for the fact that they do not have room service. That was a huge deal for someone who likes to be lazy on vacations and just want to be catered to me. However, I would recommend this place for people who do not mind walking to the next door diner.
In addition to this, my boyfriend and I had a difficult time finding the entrance to the hotel lot! We pulled into 3 driveways before we got it right! The lots were all separated for each establishment and you have to find the small sign for the hotel before it makes it apparent that you are going into the right driveway.

After looking through reviews here and on Expedia, we booked this hotel. I read that it was close to the tri-​met (public transport system), and it was reasonably priced compared to hotels in downtown.
The good:
Rooms are clean and updated. The lobby is modern. The beds are very comfortable. They have free breakfast with eggs, sausage, pancakes, potatoes, quesadillas, oatmeal, bananas, cereal, toast, yogurt, coffee, tea, oj, and apple juice. The breakfast wasn’t my style, but it looked good enough and my kids seemed to enjoy it the times they ate there. There is a free airport shuttle. There is free parking. There is a hot tub.
The bad:
The other areas, like the hallways, and stairs, have older, ugly carpet. The location stinks. Yes, it’s pretty close to the tri-​met, but when you’re walking back late at night, you’re walking under freeways, and there is no one around unless you count random creepy men. One evening, when we came back to our room, there was a homeless man getting ice from the ice machine. It takes about 20 – 30 min to get to downtown Portland.
If you have a car everyday, the location isn’t a huge issue, and I would recommend this place. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean and comfy. If you plan on taking public transport (with children), as we did most of the time, I might suggest staying in the downtown area. This hotel was just a bit too far away from all the cool things in downtown Portland. I didn’t feel super safe walking late at night with my kids from the tri-​met to the hotel. I’m a bit of a fraidy-​cat though, so take that how you will.

this is the worst service I received at a best western and I will never stay at a best western in my life.
The hotel wrongfully accused my room of smoking and charged my room a 500 fee. They inspected my room twice and found no signs of smoke in the room.

I am VERY disappointed in the Best Western INN at the Meadows! The complimentary breakfast was greasy, the bed was uncomfortable, the room was uninviting & noisy, the hotel was going through a remodel and slabs of granite counter tops were piled up outside, pieces of granite and wood in walking areas, the parking lot was dark at night, and the hot tub was broken.
Checked out early because we could not deal with the accommodations. We had gone through
and they checked with the hotel and they denied our request for a refund for the 3 days will NOT be there!
Spreading the word to anyone who will listen to me about this hotel!

My partner and I have been wanting to venture down to Portland for quite some time. After moving to its’ northern sister city of Seattle, we decided that Portland would be a fun weekend trip. I purchased a Groupon Getaway for king bed room for two costing $ 74.43. While reminiscing on our stay, this price was a bit steep yet reasonable. Nonetheless, it is a short 10-​minute drive to downtown Portland which has plenty of reasonably priced parking garages. For those who prefer public transportation, the Delta Park/​Vanport Yellow MAX Lightrail Line Station is nearby with a Park N Ride lot ($ 5 for an unlimited ride day pass). Around the hotel are limited attractions other than the Delta Park Sports Complex and Portland Meadows Horse Race Track. There is also a Walmart, Lowe’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Guitar Center, Burger King, Elmer’s Restaurant and Burrito House.
Check-​in was friendly and brief. We received a code for the free wireless internet which was adequate in speed. The parking lot was plentiful, even after arriving in the evening. The complimentary breakfast was crowded but had a large array of choices: Flour quesadillas, diced potatoes, eggs, sausage, cereals, pastries, fruit, yogurts, pancake station. It did the trick to keep me full during a morning of Rose City exploration.
The room was a decent size. Similar to the lobby, it had been updated with modern Ikea-​like furniture (bed frame, desk, entertainment center, dresser, chair:
), while the bathroom, kitchenette and hallways were forgotten about and remained stuck in the 1970’s (
). The water pressure was excellent, so much that water would splash out onto the bathroom floor. The sink had old nail polish on the table top, which I could have done without. Otherwise, the room was very clean without finding any stray hairs or other nastiness.
We would stay here in the future with a good deal.

PORTLAND, OREGON REVIEW #15…Where to stay!?!
How do you book a hotel if you don’t know the city? That’s one of the hardest tasks when traveling. We tried going on TripAdvisor, Expedia and even on Unilocal.When we saw some of the photos of the outside we were hesitant but the deal was so good and we figured «would we stay in the hotel all day?» Why not try it out. I’m glad we did. This place was great. Don’t judge the book by its cover. The rooms have been renovated with a new modern décor. The bed was super comfy. We stayed on the 1^st floor, close to the lobby and eating area and it was not loud at all. Not a lot of foot traffic.
Our room had a microwave, refrigerator, flat screen TV, bath necessities (shampoo, conditioner & soap), blow dryer, iron and ironing board. hey came to our room mid-​day to change our sheets, make our bed and give us new towels.
The room rate comes with breakfast in the morning, unfortunately; they didn’t provide «non-​meat» items. Which I’m surprise since its Portland.
This location is not in downtown Portland, but a short driving distance. From the hotel traffic happens northbound around 4−6pm and southbound in the morning. They have Walmart, Home Depot, Dollar Store and nearby restaurants which are all walking distance.
If you’re planning to visit Portland, I would definitely recommend this place if you don’t mind driving to your destinations.
