Good God! This is some excellent food. Unique, tasty. I need to get back there soon.

Having never tried Mauritian food before, this place immediately caught my eye. Final verdict? Absolutely amazing food with huge portions. The shyamosas are an absolute must. Be warned… they are HUGE, so order accordingly. The outer skin had the perfect texture and crispiness, while the inner filling was to-die for. Top it all off with mint-cilantro chutney and sweet and sour sauce, and you’ve got yourself a snack that will bring tears of joy to your eyes. My friend and I also ordered both the chicken pulao(rice) and the chicken mini frire(pan fried noodles). Both were delectable and incredibly flavorful. Order either one of these along with a shyamosa and you’ll be set. Chez Dodo is definitely one of my favorite food trucks. With unique(and good-tasting) food as well as super friendly service, what’s not to love? Yes, we ordered too much in case you didn’t notice… but hey, it ensured we’d have some leftovers. I’d recommend you all to do the same.

Shyamosas were unreal, and make sure to add the green chutney for a little bit of spice!

Best food truck food I’ve ever had in Portland. Amazing! Got the Veggie Mine Frier and giant samosas.

The portions are huge. It’s definitely an unique food truck. A few tips: 1. The food if not properly spiced will be bland. Just a heads up if you order no spicy. 2. The line gets mean, so go early

It’s always nice to find a place that lives up to the buzz. Prior to eating here, i had no idea what i was missing when it came to Mauritian food. After having Shyam’s Shyamosas, the Mee Foon(rice noodle/veggie curry with your choice of protein) or his Mine Frire(spelling?), I realize that i was living a lie. The food itself is a rather eclectic mix of Indian, Chinese, French, and various African cuisines… and they harmonize beautifully, in massive portions. Beyond that, Shyam and his crew go out of their way to make sure that their customers feel welcome. If you’re suffering from a curry/noodle jones, or if you just want to try something deliciously different, you need to go visit the Dodo’s.

So so good. I ordered the lamb curry with wheat noodles. The portion looks about half as big as it actually is. An explosion of flavors. My roomie ordered the chicken with rice noodles. Had myself a taste and I’d definitely order that next time. The shredded chicken is so perfectly tender and the very thin rice noodles aren’t usually my style but these were excellent.

Yum! Stopped here on our way to a brewery and grabbed lunch. Orders the Mine Frire with Lamb mild because I’m a wimp with spice. Added the chutney with slight hear on top it was perfect. Full of flavor. Also got the Tamarind Mint Lemonade which was delicious. Skip the 12oz and splurge that extra dollar for the 20oz :)

The only disappointment with this stop was the amount of food I had to leave uneaten in the hotel fridge once we departed for Seattle. I loved that we could get a little spice, a little veggie, and a little protein all packed into a little box. And while little, my husband and I wished we had split one order, as neither of us even came close to eating half the portion. We each tried a different pan fried noodle with different spice, but we both thought ours was the better choice. What we did agree on was that the pulled chicken knocked our socks off. And oh my goodness, that TAMARIND lemonade?! I wish we had gotten a spare for the road. All in all, a solid choice for a lunch on the go, with prices that belie the amount of food you’ll get.

I am going to go back and try their other stuff, but what I had today was salty and clumpy, and I didn’t quite like it. I ordered mine frire(pan fried noodles) with chicken curry, medium spicy with a ladle of their mint chutney. The mint chutney definitely broke down the clumpy saltiness a little bit, but the chutney itself was salty, too(and a little spicy). I am not quite sure what to think of it — was it just adding salt, or was it actually giving it a more refreshing taste? The chicken was shredded and mixed in with the noodles, I think that added to the sticky clumps. I want to come back and try their shyamosas. Their friendly staff definitely made the experience better than an average cart!

Delicious and so fun! Watched them roll dough for bread before freshly baking. Enough food for 2 meals. Had the rice noodles with eggplant, mushrooms and chickpea balls… to die for. Kids loved their meals too. Bought burger for homeless guy hanging out in the area. Tough spot on weekends.

Chez Dodo is nothing special; I had the curry which was fine. Like most people, this was my first experience with Mauritian food, which I understand has elements of Asian, African and Indian cuisines. However, it just ended up tasting like average Indian food to me. I did get the dholl puri flatbread, so maybe I’m missing something. I don’t feel compelled to go back, but I also don’t regret visiting this food truck. I do like the idea of the varying levels of hot sauce though!

I gave this cart another shot because as poor as my first experience was, I still wanted to try some more of the menu, and this time I’m happy to say I was not disappointed. The difference? I called in my order ahead of time, turning a 45 minute wait into a 5 minute one. I STRONGLY recommend calling in ahead, and the employees thanked me for doing so as well. This time I got the chicken mine frire, and it was delicious. Huge portion of noodles with a few vegetables and tons of tender, easy to pull apart, melt-in-your-mouth chicken. You know how sometimes you order a meat dish and find yourself eating around the few bites of meat, saving them for the end? No such problems here – every bite had plenty of meat and it was all delightfully flavorful. I ate it for lunch yesterday and today, and my only regret is not requesting more of their mint-cilantro chutney, a green sauce that rivals Wolf & Bear’s for its zest and addictiveness. They say 3rd time’s a charm, but for me, two was enough to be sold on Chez Dodo. I will certainly be returning soon.

Food cart in the heart of down town! I was looking forward to visit this place since ages! Glad I could finally make it. Food didn’t disappoint at all. I had super high expectations from the food due to Unilocal reviews. Good veggie food options! My veggie curry with tofu and eggplant had big portion. This can be finished if you have bigger appetite or you are starving. Curry had mashed potatoes as a base and flavors of spices. There were hardly any eggplant pieces though. For taste it was 4.5 star and portion 5 star. Veggie Samosas with a twist or ‘shyamosa’ were freshly prepared and served hot with mint cilantro chutney(5 star amazing taste) plus red chilli sauce(3 star taste — Very standard thai sweet chilli sauce taste). Samosa’s crust was perfect crisp. Overall, I loved samosas and mint chutney.(both are 5 star taste). I saw the picture of veggie lentil fritters by a fellow Unilocaler and this item is not in menu. Will ask for them next time. I will recommend this cart for samosas and curries and the amount of tasty food you get.

Came here during my first visit to Portland as I was excited to check out the food truck scene. I love samosas so this place looked right up my alley. We came here right around opening and the people working at the truck were super friendly. The food took a while to come out so I could see this place being a bit inefficient with crowds. You get TWOGIANTSAMOSAS for $ 7…repeat…GIANT. I recommend splitting with a friend as each samosa is more than enough for one person. As someone who likes both authentic and fusion/street Indian food I really enjoyed these. The samosas are perfectly fluffy and full of lots of traditional(potatoes, peas) and non-traditional(lima beans) samosa ingredients. They also put chutneys on top. This place also has a variety of curries where you can pick and choose your ingredients. I saw lentil fritters on the menu and ordered some, not realizing that these were not actually intended to be a stand alone dish… oops. Either way, Chez Dodo was happy to oblige and have me a giant plate of them :) This place is very vegan/vegetarian/allergy friendly(I didn’t notice a large presence of nuts and/or sesame.) Will definitely be back here if I ever make it back up to Portland!

Pan fried noodles with chicken. Very very tasty and very unique. I have had all types of noodles, but none that had so much Asian fusion in one dish! The owner/chef is also very nice and pleasant.

The sheer number of raving reviews is a testament to Chez Dodo’s exquisite fusion cuisine, which Chef Shyam pays tribute to his Mauritian heritage. And Chez Dodo is the only Mauritian themed cuisine you’ll find in Portland. Shyam is certainly a foodie at heart and very passionate about his craft, and with his permission, I’m sharing some of his mee foon magic: A) Potatoes that are boiled to a «creamy» state so when mixed with the boiled mee foon(rice noddle) it adds to overall thickness of the texture. B) A blend of veggie including Chinese chives(sourced from H-Mart or Chinese grocery store), cabbage, carrots, peas, corn, ginger, garlic are sauteed together — Then toss A into B with a mix of Shyam’s secret sauce and Thai Chili — Add the curry of choice to the mixture and voila! Im very fond of the the mee foon. However, If mee foon is not for you, then consider the other options like the giant samosa filled with potato and other veggie, fried noodle etc, but of curse the only way to know is try it out yourself. Consider that not only the food is delicious, the portion is HUGE and the price keeps you smiling! Shyam is too generous with his portions and I appreciate that very much. If you do drop by, be sure to say Hi for us. Cheerio!

Portland is known for their food pods and when in Portland, this is one of many must tries for food pods! The name, Chez Dodo, is so creatively named! I like the fused concept of integrating multiple cuisines together! I ordered up their Mine Frire(pan-fried) noodles with lamb meat and medium spicy sauce. It was so full of rich spices, gamey lamb meat flavor and ingredients! I was tempted to do the deadly hot sauce, but I didn’t want to kill my taste palate and have it overpower the spices for this entrée! There is a choice of whether having it with rice or noodles, meat or no meat and the range of spicy sauce! Enjoy!
