After a bad experience at a club down the street we decided to throw caution to the wind and try this place. Lucky us as the food was amazing! We had the rib eye and salmon both cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. What was especially good was the seasonings and sauces that went with both dishes, they really took the meal to the next level. Service was good, the only challenge we had was with only a few people in the restaurant our food took about 45 mins. With such a long wait we would have really appreciated our server letting us know and offering bread or something while we waited. Definitely would return… great food, good location and a solid wine list!

Delicious dinner last week before the play. Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff and really flavorful plates. Four of us ordered different plates and ate family style to sample it all. We’ll be back here for sure!

My husband and I stumbled upon this place when seeking a restaurant for date night. We didn’t plan ahead, but thought we’d give this place a shot since we were craving some good Italian food. When we walked in, we were greeted promptly and alerted that they were booked for the evening, however, the bar was open seating — SCORE! The ambiance was very nice even though it wasn’t very large and the kitchen seemed tiny compared to other restaurants I’ve been to. My husband ordered the Agnolotti and I ordered the Tajarin and holy cow. they were both to die for! We got full portions of both and were very happy that we did. The flavors were very earthy and savory but you didn’t feel gut bombed by the end. The prices were reasonable, staff was great, and the wine was nicely paired. I would rate this place highly for any occasion, especially date nights.

Great creative food. Would go again. Service a little slow, but food made up for it. Small and quiet. Worth checking out.

Came here for PDM(Portland Dining Month) I really enjoys myself and the food was mighty fine. Came with a pretty large group and I was able to taste lots of dishes. I didn’t hate anything I tasted but at the same time, I wasn’t «blown away» by anything as well. Pappardelle~ A hand cut wide pasta, wild boar ragu, parmesan, gremolata Easily the best dish of the night. $ 24 but can be shared. Risotto~ C+ fennel sausage, savoy cabbage, roasted fennel, leeks, fontina A Solid Risotto, plated perfectly. Gnocchi~ B This is not an easy dish to cook. It shouldn’t be heavy and this one not. It was light, fluffy and the sauce was fresh and not overpowering the gnocchi. Panna Cotta ~ B sweet cream, arbequina olive oil, fresh raspberries, sherry Service ~ A Attentive, fully staffed, relaxed, helpful. BONUS~ water was filled AFTER the check was paid. The Restaurant is aesthetically classy and the seats are cushy and inviting. This is a solid Italian choice. Thinking out loud; The restaurant wasn’t filled to capacity the whole night and with empty tables we were seated by the restrooms. (we made reservations 3 weeks in advance) not the best seats in the house, in fact the worst seats. All and All, Not my top Italian choice, but a solid restaurant experience and a return is not out of the question.

This is my first review that I am writing about my food experience in Portland and I must say the housemade pasta at Coppia is to DIE for! With each bite you can taste the love put in by the kitchen staff. Highly suggest their Gnocchi and Ox tail angolatti, Lots of local wines and the handcrafted cocktails made by our bartender Matt were awesome! 5 stars!

First the atmosphere — loved it. Very comfortable and stylish. Was easy to have a nice conversation as they do not pack the tables in too tightly like some places. We started of with the Bagna Caoda paired with the suggested wine. It was delicious. I am usually a bread lover but the vegies were the best for dipping. Next we moved on to pasta. We had the Agnolotti and the Pappardelle also with the suggested wines. Both my husband and i agreed that the Agnolotti was our favorite but both dishes were very tasty and the wine pairings were perfect. To finish we ordered the pork loin which they kindly split for us. Also with the paired wine. This was my favorite course. So juicy and flavorful. Service was great and ambiance was perfect for the Valentine’s weekend. We will be adding this to our list of places to visit again.

Good, but we were in on a prix fixe night so weren’t able to order off the regular menu.

Based on the other reviews, I was surprised to get a table at the last minute. I’m so glad we did! The service was excellent, warm, knowledgable, and attentive without being intrusive. We started with a fantastic fresh salmon cruda, the marinated mushrooms, and agnolotti(ox tail stuffed pasta). All were light but with rich deep flavors, perfectly done. Between the four of us we had the duck, pork tenderloin, wild boar pappardelle, and risotto. Personally(having sampled everyone’s dish) I think the wild boar pappardelle was the best dish, but all four were very tasty. The ambiance was cozy, not too loud for conversation. We will be back!

Wonderful handmade pasta prepared perfectly with true Piemontese authenticity. Half size pastas are available to allow for multiple dishes and tasting between even two people. Delightfully informed and polite service with a cool selection of Italian rarities. A gem among Portland restaurants; truly the best pasta I’ve ever had.

Tried the pinot noir wine flight and found some new favorites, including a deliciously floral Black Thorn vintage. The cheese board was absolutely scrumptious, with an expertly nuanced pear and mustard seed preserve on the side. I wish I could buy this and take it home and eat it every day. We had half portions of pasta(what a wonderful idea, coppia!) and were blown away by the wild boar ragu and the oxtail agnolotti. Richly flavored savory sauces, melt-in-your-mouth meats, and toothsome pasta. Some of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had. Tip– the seats in the front room are more lively and good for people watching, while the back is more dimly lit and romantic.

I had a superb tune with a lovely sauce and excellent fennel. The wine(recommended by the waiter) was very good, the service was attentive, and the décor was pleasant and relaxing.

Ciao Unilocalers! Wine pairings and cuisine based on the Piedmont region of Italy was scrumptious in the 3 dishes we indulged over happy hour(4PM to 5:30PM). House marinated mushrooms and onions, cured meats, wide pasta noodles /wild board ragu with parmesan was delicious. Each dish surprised my pallet nerve endings pleasantly with bite-popping, lip-smacking fresh flavors. Pack my bags, I’m flying the friendly Italian skies to Piedmont for more! Happy hour for our first time was just a delectable taste teaser! There is much more filling out the full-up dinner menu to experience. The dining inside is exquisite and there are tables along the 10th avenue sidewalk. We have to go Italy at Coppia in the Pearl District again. Chow!

Enjoyed an excellent dinner here. As you would expect from a wine bar, they had an extensive wine list. Some of the entrees can be ordered in a half portion, which is nice as it allowed me try more than one, but I would not recommend if you are only having a one — get the full portion as the food is phenomenal and will leave you wanting more. I highly recommend the risotto and the pappardelle, both were excellent.

I never write a Unilocal.Ever. Everyone is either ticked off or thinks they are a burgeoning food critic. But I wanted to give a shout out to the waitress at Coppia last night. The food was a little pretentious, but it was fun. The wine pairings were nice. My friend wanted to treat me to something special. And this was way out of his budget so I was nervous that he would spend all that money and it wouldn’t turn out well. He had picked this place out himself because he knows I like wine. We weren’t grubby, but we definitely didn’t fit the profile of the Portland metro professionals that are obviously this places bread and butter. «Oh we loove Amalfi’s. but its definitely«American Italian».(yawn…) The waiter who sat us was a annoyed because we politely asked if we could be seated at the open window table.(I think that happens a lot. I get it) But the young woman who waited on us was as warm and friendly and made us feel comfortable. Zero attitude. I worked as a waitress in Beverly Hills for more than a decade. There is nothing more annoying than a waiter that roles their eyes at the bridge and tunnel folk that wander accidently into their lair. I worked with them for years. Not nice people and really not very good servers. But we got none of that here and we had an excellent time. Thanks Sis.

Sona innamorato! After perusing the posted Portland Dining Month 3-course menus, I decided to give Coppia a whirl. That whirl quickly turned into a whirl-wind romance. Let me take you through the stages of love: Course 1: Love at first bite Artichoke flan paired with Island Girls of Corsica Chardonnay. Holy wowzers, at first taste my eyes were closed in pure elation. The decadent chunks of artichoke came paired with shaved fennel and a lemony-smoky sauce. The sauce was so good that I was actually tempted to lick the bowl clean. Our server anticipated that, and brought us out a bread basket so we could sop up every last bit. While the dish stood tall on its own, the wine pairing took it to new heights. The Chardonnay acted as a beautiful continuation of the gorgeous multitude of flavors of the course. I’ve actually never experienced a wine and dish so perfectly paired. By far my favorite course of the night, this one was pure perfection. And let’s just talk about the bread basket real quick. The bread was what bread should be– soft, moist interior with a toothy flavorful crust. It was paired with salted olive oil, or as I now call it, the elixir of the gods. I’m pretty sure there is a pair of ginormous thumbs squeezing olives in the back; you could practically taste the individual olives in the olive oil. It was special, real special. Course 2: Adoration Gnocchi with Pistachio-arugula pesto paired with a Piedmont white blend of cortese, chardonnay, and sauvignon blanc. First things first, I’m a floozy for pasta, so it isn’t THAT hard to make me happy if pasta is on the menu. That said, this was a very well executed bowl of gnocchi. Now I’ll admit, I’m sometimes bored by basil pesto; this pistachio-arugula pesto did anything but bore. Perhaps my favorite element of this dish was the garlic chips on top– the combination of cruchy garlic, soft pillowy gnocchi, and the herby fresh pesto was a slam dunk. The wine pairing was bright and lively, complementing the course wonderfully(these guys GET wine pairings). Course 3: Sweet everafter A dessert in two parts:(1) Blood orange tart paired with cardamaro amaro, and(2) Panna cotta with olive oil and raspberry paired with Moscato Part 1: The dish, taken as a whole with the cardamaro amaro(a liqueur made with cardoon, artichoke thistle, and almond) was really decadent and lovely. However, nix the cardamaro amaro and the dessert would have been a little bit too dry. While the flavors were super great, and the texture of the tart was mmm-worthy, the crust of the tart had a tendency to overwhelm the rest of the flavors. Instead of slices of blood orange on top, I would recommend a blood orange glaze of sorts to tie it all together. That said, the dessert was still good, just not as great as the other knock-outs on the menu. Part 2: The panna cotta sealed the deal for me– true love. The smooth, silky panna cotta was executed perfectly, and was drizzled with the divine olive oil and sprinkled with fresh raspberry. I could have eaten five plates of this dessert and still have not gotten enough. And here’s the truly impressive thing, I HATE moscato. Hate, hate, hate, hate, double hate, loathe entirely! And yet, I loved the moscato and panna cotta pairing. I think for the first time in my life, I understood moscato, and I never thought I could. That’s just how good Coppia is at its pairings. At meal’s end, I was perfectly satiated. Thank you, Coppia, for a wonderful, blissful, love-inducing experience.

When this was Vino Paradiso and they only had a hot plate for service to customers, I was there learning about Proseccos(and taking bottles home) and experiencing the pairings of small plates, wine flights and buying artwork off the walls during First Thursdays. Fast forward to 2014… married now, my husband and I devoured 3 courses with wine pairings. They hit every note on the wine pairing so if you are a fan of wine + food pairings I highly recommend Coppia. This review is based on another visit in January 2015 when our friend Kathleen(she was the first person to buy her & I Prosecco circa 2000 for my birthday) took me out again for a pre-birthday dinner. Particular standouts on the current menu are Pancetta al forno(melt in your mouth with balanced creamy and tartness) and this is a MUST pair with the suggested wine. Agnolotti is rich and a dish my husband ordered, I tasted. My friend ate Parpadelle made with wild boar which she raved about all night, along with suggested wine pairing. My highlight was the Panna Cotta made with buttermilk cream, olive oil and raspberry. Outstanding! I’m not particularly fond of desserts but always a fan of the classic Panna Cotta or Flans with«unusual» flavor profiles. I’m hooked on the Panna Cotta, next time it’s just going to me and Panna Cotta!

I really like this restaurant. It has ambiance, a nice wine selection and a terrific menu. I also love that the pasta menu items are available in two serving sizes. Try the wide noodles with wild boar ragu — you won’t be disappointed. Also the beet salad is very good.

I really enjoyed our meal at Coppia the other night! I found this place on OpenTable and decided to give it a shot. The menu is designed to have up to 6 coarses, but you can order most plates in a large or small size. I really appreciated that option because we were able to try everything we wanted to. First of all, the pork belly appetizer was amazing! Wonderful flavor and great preparation which made for a very tender and melt in your mouth pork belly. We also had the wild boar ragu, duck breast(which was my least favorite thing. Mainly because it had a ton of lentils, which I’m not a fan of). Lastly we had a fantastic filled pasta with braised oxtail! All the pasta was hand made and each dish was beautifully presented. The prices were awesome too– for a glass of wine and 4 menu items, the bill was $ 94! Not bad for a gourmet Italian restaurant.

I stopped in here briefly for drinks before dinner and thought it was absolutely delightful. The servers were welcoming without being pushy and knowledgable but still humble and sweet. The happy hour red blend for $ 5 was great, and the Willamette Valley Pinot flight for $ 14 was a great choice. Would love to go back and try the food but the bread sticks were a nice palette cleanser for my purposes. Cozy and warm in atmosphere too.

Coppia is wonderful. Classy décor, delicious food, incredible wine, and completely unpretentious attitude! I love a place that I feel comfortable asking questions, dressing casually, but still able to enjoy top notch cuisine – and Coppia meets all of those expectations. I HIGHLY recommend the sformato– flan-soufflé with bell pepper, chard, carrot, parmesan served on roasted beets for your main course, and the Panna Cotta for dessert. The Sformato was savory with the perfect density of texture, and incredibly filling. And the Panna Cotta tasted like a delicious version of adult pudding with the right combination of olive oil and sweet cream. We will definitely return to Coppia – hopefully very soon!

Coppia is the sort of place you’d dream of creating, if you were so inclined to own a restaurant. Cool without being hipster, welcoming without being annoying and delicious while not pretentious. We’ve enjoyed all sorts of meals here, each one nuanced and made with pride. I’d say to look over the day’s choices and pick the one that jumps out to you. And the staff is there to happily share what they know and make recommendations. One additional note: Trust their wine pairings. They really take the time to match the course with the wine.

We go here every year with my parents, it’s their favorite place when they come to Portland. The food is incredible, the service is always impeccable. I would strongly recommend to stick to their wine pairings. They always hit the spot. We’ve had everything across the menu and we’ve never had anything we did not like.

Number 1 favorite restaurant in Portland. Why? Love the owners, love the chef, love the champagne, love the vibe, love the location and most of all I LOVE the food!!! It’s fresh, cooked to order and sooooo flavorful. The beef short ribs are to die for. You can’t go wrong here, really, try anything! You won’t be sorry.

What a lovely place! The décor is modern and unpretentious. The staff working behind the bar are pleasant and share their vast knowledge of wine. We enjoyed a wonderful Dolcetto from the amazing wine cellar. The pasta with brown butter and sage is quite addictive!

I would like to give Coppia more stars… let’s say 3.5 for now. Atmosphere: LOVE. Indoor and outdoor seating. Small but quaint restaurant with dim dinner lighting. Candles, modern décor, open kitchen concept, nice bar seating, large wine rack display. Service: Excellent. Nothing bad to say, service was definitely on par. Pricing: Lunch prices seemed reasonable. Dinner was a tad expensive in my opinion. Wine list was great and my flight of delicious reds was only $ 12. Not bad if you ask me. Wine pricing depends on the wines of course but all 3 I tried were delicious. Food: Here’s where my issue lies. The food was good, but not great. Certainly not worth the $ 19 I paid for a plate of pasta. The portion was plentiful but the overall taste was only so-so. I ordered the Parpardelle that came with wild boar ragu. The pasta was overcooked a bit and not drained properly or enough as there was water in the bottom of my dish. The boar itself was good but the sauce seemed bland and missing some flavor. The cheese helped salt it up a bit but wasn’t overly thrilled with the dish. Wasn’t horrible by any means, just not great. Notes: I would recommend coming here especially if you are interested in some tasty wines or cocktails. Be weary of ordering food. Apps are decently priced.

Great food and wine bar. Service was good but in the latter part of the evening had to ask to change out glasses instead of being done automatically as when we first started the evening. On the last wine we had that I had sitting in a decanter they never offered to pour for us despite just bringing out fresh glasses. Weird. Overall we had a good time and the food was good and the service friendly. We will be back again. Corkage fee was a little high at $ 20 a bottle as we brought 3 bottles so our corkage fee was $ 60. Ouch! Understandable as I am sure they rather have customers buy the wines there opposed to bringing it to the restaurant. Cheers!
