came back for lunch… had a pilsner, and my partner had a cocktail… i had the grilled veggie sandwich on whole wheat, with a salad… she had the rice, bean, veggie bowl… excellent for both… the staff is always nice… it’s relaxing and laid back… thx!

HEEDTHEWARNINGS… My wife and I were starving, and were on our way to Pine State Biscuits near this«restaurant.» Pine State had a mile long line — probably for good reason. This place looked great though, there were people there eating, and no line. We were greeted by a friendly woman and seated right away. Our waitress was nice, brought coffee and menus right over. We looked at the menus for a few minutes and ordered. On the menu was a «Florentine Benedict» and a Ham Benedict(basic eggs Benedict). My wife asked if she could get half and half — one florentine, and one ham. Our cheery server said«sure no problem.» Great. I ordered two eggs over medium, bacon, and a biscuit, menu says it comes with home fries. Oh, and a side of hollandaise. No problem. And, since we’re starving, we order one side pancake to split. We wait, and wait… and wait, and wait, and wait. Our cheery server comes over and says it’s coming soon«I promise.» Finally, FI-NA-LEY, our server shows up with: eggs for me, one broken yolk cooked to petrification, one sort of over medium, and on the same plate, bacon that had clearly been cooked some time ago and held in an oven. I’m not thrilled about the broken yolk, but usually not one to complain, I forge ahead. My wife gets one(single half) of an english muffin — not so toasted, kind of squishy, with spinach, tomato slice, a poached egg that I’m pretty sure the«cook» cooked for the entire 45 minutes it took to get our«food.» It was like a yellow golf ball encased in white vinyl. Also on her plate, some potato… fragments… zero flavor, like none. Also arriving in this first wave of culinary horror, my side of hollandaise — a thimble sized urn of cold, yellow, flavorless, semi-coagulated liquid. So cold, I’m wondering how it’s still in a liquid state. Sort of liquid… hard to describe really. Waitress comes back with a pancake. I’m not even sure how they did it, but the pancake also had zero flavor — none, zippo. Pancake texture was kind of OK, but not great. A few more minutes go by and our server wanders back over, I inquire about my biscuit and home fries that were supposed to come with my breakfast — a while back. She says«oh, yeah, it’s coming.» No indication as to when. Several minutes later, biscuit and home fries. Which remind me of the old saying, «be careful what you ask for.» Home fries… same completely flavorless, semi-lukewarm potato fragments my wife got on her incomplete order. Biscuit: brown hockey puck with a weight that defies its apparent mass… science project? I asked my server to remove the«hollandaise» and told her it was probably the worst on planet Earth. She obliged. We picked at the mess for a few minutes, laughed a bit, sort of, and our server was back with our check. Rather than invest another hour in the payment process, I took the check to the front counter. Server says«other than your hollandaise, how was everything?» I told her it was kind of like when our kids were about seven or eight and tried to cook us breakfast. Server says: «oh, were your kids good at making breakfast?» I told her no, not at all. I paid for the garbage we were served and tipped our server five bucks. She was young, blue hair, cute, what did she know. I also paid the 25 bucks for the cold, incomplete, tasteless mess we were served. I used to eat my kids funky breakfasts because I didn’t want them to feel bad, because they had tried so hard. Whoever is attempting to cook at this hellhole wasn’t trying at all — unless they were maybe 4 or 5, but I’m pretty sure there are laws against that. I’d eat one of my kids breakfasts again, particularly now that they can all cook much(much) better than whoever is trying to cook at this place. But as far as eating breakfast at Cup and Saucer again… maybe if there’s a nuclear war, and all other food on earth is contaminated with radioactive fallout, but probably not. Blech… super disappointing. And it’s not like they were having a bad day and somehow it’s normally OK. The kitchen staff has NO idea how to cook. Never go there! Really!

Glad we found Cup & Saucer on Unilocal… Absolutely no disappointments. Wide menu selection and generous portions. Great value!

Stellar breakfast, killer staff and great atmosphere. I’m not picky but I like what I like and that’s well made food in a place, in a interesting place with real people. This is it. The staff are humans that talk to you like humans and want to get you what you want. They’re engaging and genuine, funny as hell and make you want to stay around and hang out at a diner. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys eating food.

The food is fine; and it’s breakfast food so you know what you’re getting. But I will never come here again, unless it’s the only place around that’s open(and I NEED bacon, which, is a very real possibility). It has the slowest/worst service of any café I’ve been to. The staff seem nice enough, but will avert your gaze if you’re trying to flag them down for a refill, or to take your order, or to sit down(after standing for 5 – 10 minutes with everyone ignoring you), or to ask for the check, or to get your card back. The kicker is the place is not even that busy when it’s happening! Sure, there are some customers, but it’s definitely not packed, and the staff seem to function with such slowness/malaise that it makes me assume 90% of the patrons are either new customers, or returning customers with too much time on their hands. When we waited for 30 minutes for our food to come out(after waiting 15 for someone to acknowledge us or take our order), we asked them to put it into a takeout box so we could just eat at home. Apparently that meant another 20 minutes for boxing. So over an hour for takeout in late afternoon(so not at 11 am at the height of breakfast fever). It’s no wonder so many other reviews here talk about the slow service. They’re not kidding. Next time, go to new seasons, buy your own ingredients, go home, and cook it yourself. It would take less time.

We walked here from the Kennedy School and this place hit the spot for breakfast. It seemed to fit the vibe of a local Portland spot. In Chicago or New York, this place would be classified as a greasy spoon and you’d know the owners were putting the health inspector’s kids through school in order to stay open, but here it fits in. The menu had a several items to future. I had the vegetarian scramble and my wife had the pork sausage scramble. The prep. took longer than you might expect, but on the plus side the food was delivered hot, well presented, and had lots of added touches of arrangement and ingredients and clearly wasn’t mass produced. Very friendly staff.

Loved the quaint setting and delicious food at The Cup and Saucer. I personally loved that this place had vegan options, while my friends could eat what they wanted too. I had the garden scramble with tofu and vegan cheese. It was so yummy. The veggies in it were fresh and perfectly cooked. A friend had the huevos rancheros. The salsa on it was fresh and delicious. Overall flavor just wonderful. Side of bacon, «the bacon was that bomb!» I also had a vanilla latte with almond milk. Really good espresso. The service was pretty good. The hostess not so much, but it waiter was very attentive but not overly so. Overall a really good experience.

Our waitress was great! But she seemed to be the only one there and working way too hard. She had to seat people, answer the phone, take orders, make rounds, clean, deliver food, etc! I felt bad to even ask her to unclog the toilet that someone else plugged up! The food was great too! I should’ve ordered the Irish coffee

I’ve been to Cup n Saucer four times. Two of those visits were decent — good food, good service, and good prices. However, I can’t remember those two times as well as the two visits I’ve had that were awful. I feel, at this point, that Cup n Saucer should pay me for the time I’ve spent waiting — waiting to be seated, waited to be served(re: being forgotten about), and waiting for my food(re: cold food). The first time I figured it was a bad day, but the second time I’ve come to believe it is bad management. There’s too many good breakfast spots in Portland to waste any more time at this one.

Well this morning was the worst breakfast of 2016. I don’t know whats going on usually this place is ok? The eggs were kind of rubbery my toast on my breakfast sandwich had one side soggy one side crispy. So i just took the two toasted half slices to make a 11 dollar half sandwich. The potatoes weren’t how i remembered them at all. So i split that half sandwich with my wife because she just simply sent her food back. Oh we were celebrating my wife b-day this weekend so that didn’t help the disappointment.

We USED to LOVE this place. I really don’t know what has happened. I think the owners have just given up. Our first experience with Cup and Saucer(~2010) was the Hawthorn café. The food and service was AMAZING, but we couldn’t handle the very loud music(so loud you can’t hear yourself think). So we decided to try the Killingsworth café. The Killingsworth Cup and Saucer became one of our go-to places for breakfast on the weekends. As I said, I don’t know what has happened to this restaurant. The past couple years it has gone so far down hill that we will most likely not be returning. Service Staff — very friendly(have never had any problem with friendliness) Wait time for food — horribly long(even when they aren’t busy) Order accuracy — Maybe I just have bad luck, but the last three times we have gone there we have received something wrong. They are always ready to fix things, but wow this last visit was the worst. I got a new item, but it was wrong too. And there was only one other customer, so they can’t say it was because they were busy. We are sooooooooo sad to give them up, but we have given them so many chances and are just unhappy with every visit. R.I.P. Killingsworth Cup and Saucer

Delicious breakfast. The poached eggs were a great consistency & texture. The bacon was like jerky. Jaz is a great cook and the staff are friendly.

After reading the reviews I went into the Cup and Saucer expecting very little. I got even less than that. Having eaten here long ago I knew that it was a little divey, but wanted some comfort food that wasn’t the usual Portland fare(please, no more southern breakfast joints!) If I were to sum it up in a sentence, I would say that the management here just simply doesn’t even try. I am genuinely confused that this place is still open Service– Friendly, but slow and unorganized. Food– cheap ingredients and it shows. Uninspired menu. Cleanliness– the place is falling apart and needs attention. Cleaning is definitely NOT a priority Value– low quality at trendy restaurant prices. $ 2.50 for a cup of coffee that Denny’s wouldn’t even serve. Plain and simple, DON’T GO.

One thing I like about the Cup & Saucer: you can almost always get a table right away, even at 11:00 on a weekend morning. The basil-pesto scramble is delicious, & I usually order the nifty little vanilla scones along with it. Suggested improvements: get the espresso machine working, and get a juicer for grapefruit & orange juice.

The food is consistently alright. I’m not a fan of the coffee — Happy Cup I think — not bold enough for my taste. There seemed to be ample staff and they were not super busy, but the service was still on the slow side. We were offered beverages right away, and the coffee came right up, but my husband ordered a Chai latte and it took some about 10 minutes. We still did not get a chance to order. After about 20 minutes — our order is taken. Another ½ hour hour then the food comes. We saw it sitting in the widow for about 5 minutes while the staff seemed to bustle around looking busy, but not really doing anything. The food was good and more than enough. Overall, this location is on the grungy side. So if you don’t mind your table being a little tacky and the flat wear looking on the sketchy side — no worries. Don’t go super hungry or in a hurry and look past the grime(building immunities right?). The food is good, not fantastic, and the servers are nice — if not speedy or efficient.

Waited an hour for food to come out in a half full restaurant. Would be one thing if the food was spectacular. It wasn’t. Got the Benedict. They used cheap, deli-sliced ham, they overlooked my egg to hard boiled and never toasted the English muffin. Hash browns had also seen better hours. Good selection of beers on tap.

This local chain has been a tasty, unpretentious breakfast destination since the last century(Ok, since the mid 90s, at least.) It serves café food– eggs in various forms, potatoes, baked goodies, lots of vegan options, special quiches– tasty, not fancy, not looking for coverage from a foodie magazine. The portion sizes are a bit smaller than they were fifteen years ago, but I never leave hungry. And I always leave happy. Over the years we have come in with crabby toddlers, six different dietary restrictions, late arriving tablemates, barely coherent hungover college age kids… and always been served as quickly as possible, with a great deal of friendliness and patience. That always makes food taste better.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but good grief… Came in again for brunch on a Tuesday, sat for more than 15 minutes without even being offered coffee. We were greeted when we walked in, but completely forgotten about. Finally we decided to leave and go elsewhere. I really think this establishment needs to figure it out. I don’t think I’ll be coming back, which sucks, since it’s so close to my house and the one in SE was always awesome.

Music was so loud, it was impossible to have a conversation indoors. It was pretty cheesy reggae too, which can be abrasive all on its own. We were sitting right next to a kitchen bussing area and the clanging of plates dropping into the bucket was super loud. The place seems to have some really crazy-bad acoustics going on, in addition to ridiculously loud music playing. Service was decent, except that when we asked the server to turn down the volume on the music, as far as we could tell he didn’t do so, after saying he would. We moved our seats outside, and then it was fine. The food was ok– good quesadilla but overly salty turkey soup. Probably won’t go back, the atmosphere was too unpleasant.

I’ve been twice now a month apart with my girlfriend, each time we had different servers and had a very similar great experience. The building is cute and has great seating. Our food was really good, plenty of it and they were accommodating to special requests. Highly recommend this little spot. After breakfast swing by Red Fox Vintage and go on a treasure hunt! Great little neighborhood!
