Hats off to Finales for making the best cheesecake, carrot cake, and German chocolate cake I’ve ever had. I use them very regularly for small social events at my company and never cease to be amazed. They are so damn good at what they do… and therefore make me look really good at what I do. It’s a win-win, ya see? If you need cake for any event, you would be remiss to not come here. The owner always works with me regarding pick-up times and providing flavor options. You can order quarter sheets of cake that feed just over 2-dozen people for normally $ 35/$ 40, depending on what type of ingredients you’re using. Considering you’ll be getting the best cake of your life, this is a steal. For the love of all things, but especially your stomach, try some of their cake.

I recently moved to Portland from San Francisco so I’m busily exploring various places to eat and play. I have been to Finales twice since moving here a month ago because it is located in my neighborhood and I really like to support local businesses. My partner and I walked into Finales(a bakery) at around 9am. Clearly post rush hour(we’re still looking for employment), but to our surprise, the only items this bakery had in the pastry case were a few cookies and one pastry item. My partner asked the rather surly woman behind the counter if there were breakfast items. She pointed to the chalkboard which stated that they make breakfast sandwiches. OK. We both ordered sandwiches though we ordered with some hesitation because we both felt as though we were imposing as it seemed she was busy in the back and seemed annoyed by our existence as evidenced by her impatience and reluctance to engage with us(one word answers, body language, unhappy look on her face). When the sandwiches were done, the waitress placed them on our table to which I politely stated, thank you but either she did not hear me(trying to give her the benefit of the doubt here even though the place was quiet and I spoke in a clear voice), or she didn’t want to respond as she did not reply to me at all. She left and returned promptly with napkins so I said thank you again and this time she managed to reply with an appropriate, «you’re welcome.» The sandwiches were fine and tasty. Well priced and seemingly fresh ingredients, for which I will give stars. Overall, at best we felt as though we were not welcome and honestly, couldn’t wait to leave, and at worse, we felt that we were an imposition. It made our visit unpleasant to the point where we probably will not return. It’s worth noting that the second employee who appeared a little later from the back room, was very nice and engaging with the next two customers. Perhaps our server was just having a bad day; we all have them(I actually think though that she was a supervisor there as she was instructing the other employee as to what to do). I would think though that at minimum, if you’re a bakery, you should have baked goods available and if you’re having a really bad day and have someone else available to help customers, you should let that person serve folks.

Kind of lame. It’s pretty small and doesn’t have a great selection of things to choose from. The coffee was ok. Not worth coming back to, unfortunately. The good: –they make coffee The bad: –everything else

Quaint quiet spot with great tasting sweet and savory croissants. They serve Happy Cup Coffee Co. and the lattes are very well balanced. Not too expensive and service was very good. The large windows to the north side allow the perfect lighting for a great study environment. They don’t have a large menu but this is definitely one of my new favorite spots in John’s Landing.

Just the best coffee shop and bakery in the Mac Adam area. Their cakes, cookies, pies, tarts are great. But their quiche is fabulous. Try the hot chocolate with a breakfast sandwich or have a bowl of soup, you cannot go wrong. The wi-fi is great, there is power for your device, and the setting is very calm; it is easy to have a business meeting. They have their own parking lot with the corner camera store, and street parking is always available. They will be your go to place in John’s Landing.

My original review was very harsh, so I’ve decided to edit. I hope that the employee was just having a bad day and that their response was not typical of their customer service. I asked if there were other baked goods because the place was bare and the employee was completely taken aback by my question and had a rude response of a snarky«we do our best». I walked out right away. It was 11am on a Friday and there was half a quiche, a couple cookies and muffin. I had expected at least the option of a croissant, but no where to be seen. I would suggest trying a different café if you have the same experience. There are tons of amazing bakeries in all of Portland full of lovely, wonderful staff.

I was doing business next door and dropped in for a coffee and a pastry. The lemon bar was fabulous. The owner was super friendly and we chatted for a few minutes. The music was awesome, lots of the same music I listen to on vinyl at home(which won the 5th star). Overall a great little neighborhood bakery, if it were closer to me I would be a frequent patron.

Had a really good breakfast sandwich and latte here. Not a ton of atmosphere though.

I can only speak for the food, as we’ve never been inside. We needed a pumpkin pie to complete our vegetarian Thanksgiving feast. I picked up one from Lambs Palisades and could immediately see and feel that it was made by people who care and put genuine love into their products, not some assembly line machine. We gave it a try(on Black Friday, we were too stuffed on the big day) and were both impressed. My wife isn’t overly fond of pumpkin pie, and she really enjoyed this. A bit spicier than most, in a thoughtful way. Just the right combination to make it stand out from the crowd. The pie was also less sweet than the average, which we both appreciated. Finally, the crust was delicate and light — not at all the tough, commercial stuff I imagined all store-bought pumpkin pies had. More like something your baking-gifted grandmother or mom might make. We’ll definitely check out the bakery when we’re near by.

The curried pumpkin soup is tasting pretty great on this cold windy day. I’m a little disappointed that I am at a bakery and there is no bread to go with my soup, just a package of crackers. I could use good crusty bread and butter. The sandwich menu looks good so I’ll come back and try that sometime. The soy chai is good but not great. Got a free cookie with my Unilocal check in and it’s a snicker doodle. It’s not got that buttery goodness that I want. Just acceptable. I would like to give them another try when I am back in the area. And I will.

I stopped by today and was greeted by the nicest gal behind the counter who kindly suggested the berry cobbler and recommended warming it up in the oven for a few minutes before serving. The perfect comfort food on a cold, stormy night — or anytime really. I can’t wait to go back and try the salted caramel brownie, and their lunch time sandwiches and soups. A new favorite in John’s Landing!

Terrific neighborhood bakery, I go there about once a week for a treat and coffee. Definitely the best brownie I’ve ever had — layered with salted caramel. Cookies are really good, and the oatmeal raspberry bar is terrific. I’ve also tried the quiche and ham & cheese croissant, I liked both and would order them again. The espresso drinks are terrific, but I recommend passing on the drip coffee. They have begun offering sandwiches for lunch, look forward to trying those. I also once ordered a 3-layer butter cream cake with raspberry and lemon for a big party, and it turned out terrific. A lot of party guests went out of their way to compliment the cake. Prices are reasonable, and owner is incredibly friendly.

I love the ambiance, friendly service, and tasty menu! The Beatles and Bob Dylan have been playing quietly in the background. There is plenty of natural light and comfortable seating. It is clean and relaxing here. A guy came in while I was enjoying my coffee and tasted the sample of cheesecake bars that the owner put out for us. After tasting it he joyfully exclaimed, «Oh, what IS that?!» and immediately ordered it. :) For ice-cream lovers, they have house-made malted vanilla ice cream that can be enjoyed in ice-cream sandwich form(with chocolate chip cookies), Ala Mode, Affogato(with espresso), or just deliciously on its own! This is on my to-do list for future visits.
