Warm and welcoming with simple, clean décor and friendly service. I stopped in for a quick breakfast and had a difficult time deciding between the beautiful and delicious-looking scones, pastries, baked pudding, cookies, etc. I ended up with a hearty breakfast scone filled with nuts and cranberries. It was one of the best scones I’ve ever had, crisp on the outside but soft and dense on the inside, flavorful and chewy. I had some loose-leaf English breakfast tea and some local cold-pressed blackberry juice. It’s a perfect place to sit and read and you easily forget that you’re in a random strip mall while sitting there. It’s lovely to be able to see into the actual bakery area as well. I’ll likely go back to grab a lunch sandwich; I visited before 8:30am and that’s when the lunch sandwiches apparently become available.

I had the fortunate experience of being able to taste a variety of items from Baker & Spice but before I get to that I’d like to speak about the experience. From the moment you walk in it is as if you’ve been transferred back in time to a place where people care about one another. Where they come together in a fine dining establishment for good treats, company, all provided in a comfortable environment. Everyone was so helpful. The décor was absolutely stunning while also providing a place where you can stay, chat, and not feel the need to rush out once your done your treats. The macaroons were easily the most decadent I’ve had. Followed up with the cupcakes which were made with a fresh cake like pasty with a not-too overly sweet icing topping(Red Velvet, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Vanilla!!!). Please if you’re coming to visit do not purchase the Caramel Popcorn– YOUWONTBEABLETOSTOPEATINGIT! All jokes aside it was addictive and I cannot wait to return to Baker & Spice to satisfy my sweet tooth.

Saw the sister store on tv and thought I would give it a go. The bread pudding is heaven like and the coffee cake is dark and rich. only downfall is parking is a drag but typical in PDX.

Why oh why can’t this bakery tucked away in a strip mall be closer to my house? My second question is why would anyone go to the Starbucks located in the same strip mall when there are good coffee drinks being produced at Baker & Spice? They offer a large selection of baked goods, savory grab and go sandwiches, and bread baked in house. The applesauce cake was a nice complement to my latte, and the grab and go salami sandwich was a perfect afternoon snack. Good things sometimes come out of strip malls, you just have to dig a little.

I love to go there. Lovely people and good service. They make this Christmas Stollen-That is the perfect gift to take to brunch or dinner. I have bought almost a dozen of them this year. They are great thank you gift for your postman/person. This is not the usual gift which makes it even more outstanding. There are also of course the perfect cookies, croissants, bread, sandwiches, scones. etc Oh la la.

Anytime I’m in SW/Multnomah Village area, I’ll stop by this place. They have a solid selection of baked goods, and even have a cake shop down the way. SO so yummy. Not many gluten free options, but it’s a bakery, so I’m not surprised. Especially in the ‘burbs. The chocolate crinkle cookie is my favorite.

I had just finished brunch and of course as soon as I saw this place walking toward my car I had to stop in to try it! I only visit Portland every so often now so of course why not food hop?! The maple twist Danish is delicious it’s a combo of a buttery croissant and maple glaze so what’s not to love?! The chocolate croissant was of course classic and as the description stated it is loaded with dark chocolate. The place is very cute they have other great pastries and awesome looking cakes, looks like it’s also a café so great place to meet with a friend or date or just work on your laptop ;)

I love this place! Such good baked goods, lunches like soup and salad, and tasty coffee drinks! If you are up for a treat, try a hot mocha and a whole wheat croissant. They change the menu seasonally. This is both a blessing and makes me want to scream and shout«Why did you get rid of my favorite XXXX» Thankfully they always replace lost items with delish alternatives.

ATMOSPHERE: Bakery/café/internet SERVICE: Staff are quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. FOOD: This is where you should buy your bread. Or have a mind-blowing gourmet sandwich. And great espresso beverages. Oh, and did I mention they have cake?! And lemon tarts?! This is not your average pastry place. This is a conversation-stopping party in your mouth

The pastries are delicious but the service is terrible. If you are one for surprises, this place is for you. They have gotten my drink order wrong all of the 4 times I’ve been. Ordering something as simple as a vanilla latte. The atmosphere is chaotic and congested. They wouldn’t even warm up the pecan pastry we ordered.(It was still delicious) I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone except for people that are in immediate proximity and in need of a blood sugar spike. Because Starbucks is out of the question. Eek.

Why do I keep going here? I swear everyone comes here just because it has a cute sign and it’s a «neighborhood» bakery. Everytime I go they get my coffee order wrong. Once I ordered a mocha, got a latte. Once I ordered a vanilla latte, got a regular latte. The coffee isn’t really good either. I would suggest going somewhere else if you want coffee. I will say, their pastries are really, really good. But don’t expect them to do anything like warm up your pastry for you. That would be way too much for them. Their customer service is pretty much… nonexistent really. The worst I’ve ever had in a coffee shop. And seriously I’m not picky. This is the kind of place you pop in, get your pastries, and leave.

Was on my way to Starbucks to study and it was packed so I wandered next door to this place. Super cute, affordable and delicious! I got a salami sandwich with pickled red onion, a mocha and a cookie for $ 13 with tip included. Very quick order process lots of seating and just a cozy atmosphere. While I waited to pay I could see clear into people working in the bakery and it just looked so awesome and their employees looked happy. Plus they have some really good coffee! I will definitely be returning

I wish I could give 4.5 stars. The one thing keeping me from giving 5 whole stars is twofold: I got an iced coffee(cold brew) a couple weeks ago, and it was a little on the bitter side. Had they had a bit of simple syrup, that may have helped, but only sugar in the raw and cane sugar. Aside from that, everything else has been delicious! Pastries, flat bread, cookies, the grab-n-go ham sandwich are spot on! I look forward to living around the corner from here and coming in more often. Shame they’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but I can handle that if everything is as tasty as what I’ve already tried! Staff have all been very friendly and helpful. There’s a good amount of table space in here if you were to want to sit and work.

Wow, had amazing desserts here! I rushed in one morning to grab something. They had a goat cheese and olive sandwich ready to go and that was amazing. Their house made hot chocolate is rich and spiced like a Mexican mocha. You have to try their ice teas. The chamomile and lavender was so floral in a good way! Going back for more soon. One of my favorite bakeries in portland so far

I fell in love with this bakery shop everytime I visit Portland. Everything from coffee, bread, cookies, pastries to sandwiches … They are all just spot on!!! My personal favourite is their old fashion bread loaf! Best loaf ever!

Really delicious coffee and treats. The flatbread was really delicious and pretty enormous for the price you get. Great atmosphere, friendly and quick service. Will definitely come back– so many treats and other breads to try! The whole place smells delicious!

I love this place and I am so glad to have this available on my way to work. I mostly get their latte and a side pastry item. I am more of a savory eater and enjoy their flatbreads, galette, and savory scones! All so good. Great service every time and staff is so nice and friendly. Since I frequent there quite often, they know my name(which is not easy) and order. Very personable people, which adds to the charm. Must admit that it is not cheap, I spend about $ 10 each visit. It’s a treat for me when I swing by.

In the context of Portland — where the description and name of the ingredients is very important, and things should be a bit twee and/or artisanal, even in spite of the overall experience being just north of «ok» — I suppose this is a 4 star place. The sandwiches are pre-made, and heated to order. They are small, and good for a snack rather than a meal. The veggie sandwich is essentially a mushroom and cheese sandwich, which is tasty. The other ingredients(kale, of course) are overpowered by the mushroom and cheese, but I love mushrooms, so no big deal. They aren’t expensive, either(though remember, the portion is smallish). The pastry I tried was delicious. The selection was interesting, but a bit limited for a bakery. But if I were nearby, and craving something sweet, I wouldn’t hesitate. Parking is a bit of madness.

Seriously adorable. I’ve been trying to come here for years and I don’t know why it’s taken me so long. It’s a combo of Frenchy cool because of the yummy looking goodies in cases, but still modern and efficient. First of all, I’m surprised that people would ever go to the Starbucks literally next door when you can go here. They have little ropes so people standing in line aren’t in the way and there’s not that awkward«Are you in line?» and«Were you here first?» conversations that are so «annoying» pre-coffee. Wow that sounded mean, but I just appreciate the efficiency(something an Industrial Engineer says often). People are served quickly with pastry handed to you at counter and names called out for coffee drinks. The staff is totally aware. On this busy Sunday morning, someone from the kitchen washed her hands and moved to the register when she noticed the line was getting a bit longer than the 1 person could handle. Awesome! The line moved quickly and seemed quick because there were so many sweet and savory treats to stare at. There were also crumb cake samples. Smart! We landed on a Katie Bun(croissant like bun with cinnamon goo soaked in) and a couple of lattes. We were planning on having the bun later, but one look and it was gone in seconds. I can’t wait to try all the sandwiches and other croissants and pastries! Make sure to check out The Cakery a few doors down in the strip mall for the cake portion of their business. It’s really darn cute too!
