Florio Bakery

Florio Bakery provided amazing cupcakes for my baby shower last month at Café Eleven. What a great day we had! And it was all thanks to such wonderful people.

My boyfriend and I are always torn about whether or not to return to Café Eleven/​Florio Bakery. The baked goods are some of the best we’ve had in Portland, especially the praline cookies and the cheesy bagels… yummmmmmmm! We also love Trailhead Coffee, and when their lattes are made well, they’re absolutely fantastic.
Our biggest problem, although it appears no one else has experienced this, is with one of the ladies behind the counter. She’s either way too loud and overly friendly or downright rude and surly. We never know what we’re going to get so think it’s almost better to avoid this place altogether. There are times when the service is exceptionally slow, too, but I could live with that if I felt more welcome to hang out in the awesome space they’ve set up.

Great pastries. Great service. The ladies who work there are really nice — engaging and friendly, even with my kiddos. They are working hard to get outdoor seating up now.

Florio is now under new ownership and called Café Eleven. The two sisters who now run this café have added much to the new interior, including more colorful walls, a sofa, and play area for kids. While they still offer the wonderful Florio pastries, they also now sell truffles by local chocolatier Bittersweet, great bagel sandwiches, and an assortment of books, cards, and artwork by local artisans. Outdoor seating will be expanding in the spring as the weather gets nicer ! They’ve been a great addition to the neighborhood :)

I love savory breakfast pastries. I had a spinach and cheese pastry that was to die for. Add to that good organic coffee… and a neighborhood cat and this is a great place to go.

So wonderful to have this exquisite coffee and bakery in Piedmont neigborhood. They are open 7 days a week and now we have great coffee and pastries to walk to other than the Starbucks. The pastries (sweet and savory options) are very tasty and made in small batches –very fresh. The owner was wonderful –came out to talk with us and made time for her customers. I will be a regular. Try the brownies with raspberry filling– delightful! and the savory pastries are wonderful. Get the word out– this place is a keeper!

Today, I tried their coffee, and yesterday a latte… and cookies! Yum! This place is great! The only thing lacking would be better outdoor space, but, they’ve only been open a short time, so I won’t nix them for that!

This bakery is dangerously close to our home… their treats are so delicious! The space is cute, conveniently located, and the staff is always very friendly. Their savor pastries are outrageously delicious, I often walk about 1 block by the time I’ve eaten the whole thing and am tempted to turn around for a 2^nd one!
They have TrailHead coffee which is tasty and a great company, their baristas are still learning it seems so the drinks can sometimes be less amazing than at other PDX spots, however… I would take their coffee with great service and a delicious pastry over a great coffee and bad attitude any day.

Coffee in ‘da hood! Florio is two halves of a duplex – bakery in one side, cute little coffee shop in the other. The boyfriend and I stopped by to check it out a few weeks ago on our way to work. Reusable cups in hand, we went up to the door… only to find that Florio didn’t open for another 15 minutes!!! Darn. It. We shuffled our caffeine-​less feet back down the walkway… only to hear the glorious tones of Florio’s friendly owner tell us that if they’re there, they can make us coffee!!! WOO HOO!
The boyfriend was easy with simple drip coffee (tasty, he said). I opted for a latte – though the real best way to judge a coffee shop is by their cappuccino, I wasn’t awake enough to judge. The latte? Totally good, to the last drop. My main issue on that fateful morning was deciding which pastry to take for breakfast – it seriously took the entire length of time the barista needed to make my latte. Insert boyfriend eye-​roll here. I wound up with the baked apple danish (I think that’s what it was called), which was delish. It looks like I’ll have an infinite number of OTHER temptations to decide between on future trips.
Summation: Florio, I’m glad you made it to the neighborhood. Woodlawn needed a good coffee shop! But, Florio – you’re missing some morning business by opening at 7. I’ll have to save my pennies for the weekend. :)

I would technically give Florio 3.5 stars, but I really want to see them succeed, so they got bumped. The baristas need a bit more training. Shots are sometimes a bit burned. Foam needs work. Totally decent coffee though (better than Starbucks, and I’m talking about just flavor). Pastries are really good, especially if you like your pastries with a little less sugar. Sometimes I wish there was a bigger punch of sweetness in some of their pastries, but I understand what they are going for. Really appreciate the use of quality ingredients. It comes through in the taste of the product. One thing though: they need to turn on some music! The wave machine sounds they play don’t make for a very inviting space. Classical music would be welcome. I appreciate that they aren’t half heartedly blaring indie rock, but something with a tune would be great. Employees are super friendly and space is very pretty, although there are no comfy chairs to sink in to. A very welcome addition to the Woodlawn neighborhood.

Excellent pastries, cool space and much needed in our ‘hood. Nice people. Unfortunately, their coffee is lame. I’ve been there at least 4 times, each time the coffee was a disappointment. Baristas might need to sharpen their skills — sloppy work. Stop by Barista or Extracto and see how it’s done.

This place is charming! Florio fills such a void in Woodlawn, I love being able to skip the Starbucks and walk to this neighborhood gem. I really like the coffee, the girl at the counter always remembers my drink, and the owner takes the time to engage my little ones (and even remembers their names!) each time we are in. The savory pastries alone deserve 5 stars. Three cheers and five stars for Florio Bakery!

Gorgeous space. Super nice woman working. Excellent scone. The coffee is Trailhead Roasters, a great choice. My latte was pretty good. Definitely not the best or worst. All the pastries looked incredible — savory and sweet alike. They take cards but don’t have WiFi — a big bummer for a laptopper like me.

So excited Florio Bakery is now open in the Woodlawn Neighborhood at 435 NE Rosa Parks Way, just east of MLK intersection! Yummy pastries (they even sell take-​and-​bake!) plus they serve Trailhead Coffee — a local brand. It’s a sweet little bakery and café doing it right.
