George Morlan Plumbing Supply & Service

I had a positive experience at George Morlan. Came in looking for new fixtures for my bathroom to match the existing vintage fixtures and was helped by the staff to find the right products. Not only were we looking for similar appearance, but we also wanted to find higher quality fixtures not made of plastic. I felt that the staff listened to what we wanted in price when suggesting a specific brand, but once we discovered that the quality of that brand was sub-​par, the staff helped us find the next step up in quality that continued to match the existing fixtures. I also felt that, while the staff are not the most customer-​oriented, they do know their stuff and can be very helpful with plumbing knowledge. Lastly, I think the prices are reasonable for what you get. I will definitely be back.

Horrible customer service!!! I called them two days in a row to ask about my order, both times someone said ‘Can I just get your number and then I’ll leave a note for the right person to call you back.’ NO ONE has gotten back to me. I hate to go back to the showroom for something that can definitely be fixed if someone just give me a call back. The price is about the same as
so if you don’t want a headache just go online. (I’m usually a big supporter of local businesses.)

After being convinced to try the Northwest Portland location after a really bad experience at their Foster Road showroom, we were impressed at the selection but unimpressed that nobody greets anyone who walks in the door. Basically all of the sales people were wrapped up with customers and there was no one to tell you that you just had to stand there and wait until somebody did their entire plumbing consultation before you could ask any questions at all. We went to the back area of the store, which has a terrifying stuffed dog (was this a real dog that was stuffed? either way it is revolting and not cute in any way) and is a very desolate environment where you can’t tell if you’re actually supposed to be back there or not. However, we were happy to see that there were several floor models of shower glass doors so we could finally for the first time in our shopping trip actually touch the different versions of glass that were available. We waited for one of the salesclerks to finish with his customer and once we «had» him he was absolutely wonderful to work with and quored a very good price on the glass (which was a lot less than Home Depot and much better quality and selection). The fixture selection was better at Ferguson but these guys definitely have a decent amount of things to choose from for plumbing remodel. We will definitely be buying our shower doors from them.

I made an appointment to have my water heater replaced. They said they would be there between 11 – 2 the next day. I called after 2 o’clock when no one showed, no call letting me know they were not coming and was told it would have to be the next day. They said they would be sure I was the first appointment at 9 – 10 oclock. Again no one showed up. I called and they said the service man went to another job first in error and he would be here in 30 minutes. He came and stared at my water heater like it was an alien and said I can’t touch the water pipe going into the tank. Someone else has to do that. I said Are you a plumber? He said yes but someone else would have to disconnect the water pipe. He only disconnects and connects the water heater. WHAT? I explained my water heater is working but my hot water is coming out purple which usually means I need the Anode rod replaced but I perferred to just have a new water heater. He said he could come back Monday and replace the rod. Then about an hour later the office called me and said they couldn’t replace the rod. That maybe they were working on the water lines in my area. I said but my cold is clear. His answer was if you keep getting the purple water give us a call. I already did that. OH MY GOD. The service man said he had only been working for them about a month. So now I start all over with another company. I told them up front I had an older moblile home and the tank was accessable in an out side closet. Plus it was still working but with the possible corrosion I wanted it replaced. They even quoted me a price. I just think this service man didn’t want to do the job or did not know how. So along with the not showing up twice I will never refer this company to anyone. With all their dissatified customers in reviews they don’t show any concern to do better.

Fantastic customer service! My wife and I purchased quite a bit of plumbing fixtures when we remodeled our home. The employees at the store were great and the showroom was well stocked with interesting fixtures. That was years ago and we have not had a lick of trouble with anything.
Fast forward to 2014. I have a rental property that had a problem with a faucet head. I took a picture of the part and called to see if I could get a replacement. Pam allowed me to text her the picture and called the next day to say she had to call the rep from the company because she did not recognize the faucet model. Lo and behold, they are sending a replacement part to the rental directly AT NO COST TO ME! Apparently it was covered by warranty (BASCO brand).
I will never shop anywhere else for plumbing supplies and the only downside to all this is I did not yet meet Pam in person.

Real customer service… Refreshing! I visited George Morlan’s showroom after a horrible customer service experience another plumbing supply competitor (you can read my other review on my profile). Connie greeted me immediately upon entering the showroom and I explained that I wanted to purchase replacements handles for an existing roman tub fixture. She promptly inspected the handle and examined pictures of the plumbing fixture I had taken on my iPhone and went to work finding the correct replacement handles.
Connie even made two calls to the manufacturer to ensure we were referencing the correct part/​model numbers. All in all a perfect example of «real customer service» compared the indignant treatment I received at the competitor just 15 minutes earlier.

I’m able to do most home maintenance myself or be like the general contractor. I have never visited a George Morlan location.
I have been having a problem with a leaky toilet tank to bowl valve, the flopper.
Passing by on a Saturday, thought I would stop in. They are probably fine for the best in the area in-​person displays of brand new toilets, sinks, faucets and tubs. That would be the fixtures. You can read the other reviews for experiences
But I was disappointed that their selection of floppers and knowledge was even less than A-​Boy or the big box building supply stores.
The staff was nice though and tried their best to help.
Plumbing is notoriously unstandardized. So maintenance and repair requires the right parts. I was expecting A-​Ball, Portland’s great old pro plumbing parts store, closed
, and replaced by an adult store, but I got Fred Meyer in plumbing knowledge and parts for repairs and maintenance at this location.
Maybe the way to summarize is that this branch of George Morlan Plumbing is a fixture store, not a plumbing store.
Remodeling yes, repairing no.

Awful experience. At paying for my order on May 1, 2014 I was told to expect 3 – 4 weeks for delivery. Should be just fine.
My husband and I met our bathroom designer in late April to pick out items for our bathroom remodel. I’ve never remodeled a bathroom and looked for expertise. Our Designer recommended we look at George Morlan. We picked out our products and paid for them on May 1^st, 2014. It is now July 1^st and my order has still not been delivered. My contractor will begin a remodel only when all products/​supplies are on site. I shared this repeatedly with GM staff. I felt it fell on deaf ears. Seemed as if the staff member was overwhelmed and not listening, was very preoccupied. Suffice it to say my shower door order had to be corrected TWICE! I made a phone call on a Thursday, my rep was off that day. Person on phone told me he would check on the ETA of my order and call me back. Never heard back from him or any other George Morlan staff member. Pathetic. How can you run a business like this and survive?
My husband caught the first big mistake and late in the game it was discovered an incorrect item number was inputted on the order, again late in the game (early June).
At least my Cust. Servcie Rep. admitted that. My contractor reserved the beginning of
June to do the remodel as it would be four weeks at that point. By early June, I did not have my GM order, paid for parts/​supplies order delivered. Still was waiting. My Contractor had to go on to other jobs. Now I must wait for late August for my contractor to begin the remodel. He is busy now.
Bad for him; bad for me. Extremely inconvenient and unacceptable. My contractor will NOT DEAL WITH GEORGE MORLAN PLUMBING. I learned this after I paid.
Save yourself a lot of grief and work tracking down your order. Don’t trade here. Wish I had read the Unilocal review first. Will consult Unilocal in the future for projects like this. There is something wrong with this business site and management.

It was a busy weekend day and the salespeople had to run between customers but I found everyone to be so friendly and helpful I doublechecked the other Unilocal reviews to make sure I was at the right place and not in some alternative George Morlan Plumbing universe. I don’t look like a million dollars and when I’m not at work I’m in the same hippie garb I’ve been wearing since the 70s, so nobody has any reason to suck up to me when I walk inside their store because I don’t look like a person who will make trouble.
These guys were all just really nice and fun and made being confused about plumbing more fun than it’s ever been! Everyone helped each other out and it was pretty clear they weren’t working on commission. I really like the showroom. They also have sinks made by the Oregon company Elite and have a good selection of American-​made faucets and other sinks (Elkay).
We appreciated the coffee and peanuts and appreciated the chance to just walk around a whole bunch and look and look again and actually come to some decisions about things that have been confusing the heck out of us for weeks.
A plus is that they have a really good idea of when they can get things in and also have a good selection of regularly stocked items. I am so happy we went here to look at stuff.

Taking your two year old granddaughter who is potty training into a room full of toilets in itself is a hassle… when I finally tracked someone down to help me find a free– standing tub that wasn’t $ 10,000, my granddaughter amused herself by trying all the faucet handles… Models were limited– more whirl pool tubs than anything else. No, I have two, I don’t want or need another whirlpool. I ended up with a couple copies and brochures, then told to go on– line and check styles out. Gee, I already did that– I wanted to touch and see the product… But the cookies were great. My granddaughter loved them…

I walked into George Morlan frantic and disheveled thanks to my plumbing woes. After reading the other Unilocal reviews I was dreading the reception I would receive. Instead I was assisted by a cadre of wonderfully helpful salespeople. They solved my problems, dealt with my stupid questions, and generally made me feel special. All I bought was a cheap faucet — which was tactfully referred to as «value-​priced» — but I still received VIP treatment.
The piece I bought wasn’t in stock but I was able to pick it up the next day. Later I found out that «we can have that here for you tomorrow morning,» was possible only because one of the salespeople opted to make a special trip to the warehouse on his way to work… at 7:30 IN THE MORNING. On a Saturday, no less. Amazing.

My husband and I were horrified by the rude treatment we received during a recent visit to purchase an appliance. To begin with, we had trouble getting anyone’s attention so we sought the attention of a sales clerk that was standing around, doing nothing. We told her that we would like to purchase one of the floor items with a giant sale sign on it.
After she rang it up, she told us that she could no longer give us the sales price because it expired today — on the day that we were there! When we questioned why the sales sign was still on the product and why it was no longer honored — since we were there on the last day of the sale –she displayed great attitude and mumbled something about not being able to change it on her computer. Hoping for some signs of respect and customer service, I asked her to seek the advice of her manager as surely he/​she would recognize how unsatisfactory this behavior was toward the customer. No luck — she said the manager was unavailable.
All in all really bad service from a sales clerk with enough attitude to sink the business…

I went to the NW Raleigh showroom and I asked about one of their lost leader products (deeply discounted product to get people in the door) and they said they don’t have it but would gladly bring them in from another store the next day.
I called back the next day and not only didn’t they bring it in, they couldn’t tell if they will ever bring it in because it was one of their «off brands.» She was fairly rude about it – as if I was troubling her.
If I had more money to spend there, I probably would have been treated better.

Went in there the last 2 Saturdays. Both times there were 2 – 4 staff members behind the counter area in the middle of the room, but they never looked up either time. We walked all around the store, right by the counters, and never got a word or a glance from staff. The plus side is, if you want to test out any of the toilets, this is the place to do it, a no-​one will notice.
